The Enemy Will Fall

4th Sunday after Pentecost 2026

All fatherhood on Earth is a reflection of the paternity of our unbegotten Father in Heaven, and all fatherhood receives its name from Him.  We are commanded to honor our fathers, both living and dead.  The calling of priests by the name “father” is not a violation of Our Lord’s command.  We refer to priests in this way because they give the more important life of Sanctifying Grace to souls in the sacrament of Baptism.

The story of Saints John and Paul, and how they have been maligned, from ancient to modern times, is an example of the danger and lasting effects of propaganda.

In the Divine Office, we read the story of David and Goliath.  St. Augustin explains that Goliath and his army represent the devil and his cohort, who seek to destroy the Church, while David, carrying his staff, is the symbol of Christ with His Cross.  The stone hurled at Goliath is the rock of the Church which causes the enemy to fall.  God watches over us at all times, provides for our every need, and our hope remains in Him.

Thy Will Be Done

3rd Sunday After Pentecost 2026
St. Vitus, when he was just a child, was trained in the Catholic Faith by the servants of his household and St. Basil was always in the company of saints, among his family and friends.  They both exemplify the importance of surrounding ourselves and our children with good and holy examples to lead them to sanctity.

St. Paul said that he wishes that all would live a life of chastity.  We are all called to live chastely according to our state in life.  We must train our children to pray without ceasing, and to live with their minds and hearts in Heaven.  If we remain detached from worldly goods, docile to God’s Will, it becomes easier to remain always prayerful.  If we are forever humble and repentant, we will be the lamb carried home on Our Lord’s shoulders.

A Heart for the Unloved

Sacred Heart 2026
When we are in the state of grace, the Holy Trinity comes to dwell in our souls.  In Holy Communion, we not only receive the Humanity and Divinity of Jesus Christ, but God the Son breathes into our souls the Father and the Holy Spirit.  Few understand and appreciate this sacred dogma of Christ “dwelling through grace in our hearts.”  God made us so that we may be “rooted and grounded in love” – that experimental love God has for Himself. His love for us is truly incomprehensible.

Blood and water flowed from the Sacred Heart of Christ when it was pierced by the lance.  The flow of water represents the sacrament of Baptism, while the Precious Blood represents the Holy Eucharist.  Our Lord said that His Sacred Heart is the last gift He would offer mankind. He warned that, “the charity of the many will grow cold,” and we see the truth of these words in our day.  However, Christ promised that He will reign in spite of His enemies.  We are not made first for human love, but for an undying love and intimate union with God.

A Method for Mental Prayer

Sermon On The
2nd Sunday after Pentecost 2026
This period of the liturgical year is particularly focused on each individual soul’s growth in virtue and holiness.  Although God gives souls the grace to accept the Faith even without their asking for it, we cannot persevere without praying for the necessary assistance from God.  This is why the saints stress the necessity of mental prayer in every Catholic’s life.  If we wish to pray with our hearts and not merely with our lips, then it is vital for us to follow the method of prayer laid down for us by the saints.  To practice mental prayer, one should prepare oneself and select the correct material on which to meditate so he might stimulate a heart-to-heart conversation with Our Lord.  Prayer does not consist in thinking much, but in loving much.  Despite distraction effecting the mind or aridity effecting the heart, the only way in which we can fail in the practice of mental prayer is to give it up entirely.

Are We Lukewarm?

Feast of Corpus Christi 2026
Today we celebrate the greatest gift given to mankind.  One Mass gives more glory to God than all the sacrifices of the Old Testament, than all the sufferings of the martyrs, even more than the love of the Blessed Mother, because it is the Redemption relived.  We see the truth in St. Paul’s dire warning exemplified in the story of King Lothaire II’s sacrilegious Communion and subsequent punishment by God.  We are offered a gift of inestimable value so often that we are in grave danger of falling into lukewarmness.  Imagine if Christ had chosen to permit but one single Mass to be offered, on one blessed day before His Second Coming.  How fervent, humble, and full of love those souls would be who were privileged to attend that one Mass.  But the gift we are given in Holy Communion is in no way diminished because Our Lord offers it so frequently.  Let us treat this Mass as if it were the only one offered for all time.

We Rest in the Holy Trinity

Trinity Sunday 2026
Today we honor the very Essence of God. The dogma of the Holy Trinity is a supernatural mystery which our unaided human reason is incapable of discovering.  Although it is true that the Son is begotten of the Father, and the Holy Spirit proceeds from both the Father and the Son, this does not mean that any one of the Three Persons is superior to the others in any way.  Countless prayers and invocations are directed to the Holy Trinity in the liturgy and the Divine Office, and it is in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost we are baptized.  When we are in the state of grace, we rest in our Triune God, Who remains in our souls.

Today we also celebrate the Blessed Virgin Mary as Queen of Heaven and Earth.  Pope Pius XII instituted this feast, but from the earliest years of the Church Catholics have given her this honor.  We pray that the Queen of the Universe may open our hearts to the grace of her Son.  “The Son of God reflects on His heavenly Mother the glory, the majesty, and the dominion of His kingship.”

Spouse of the Holy Spirit

Pentecost Sunday 2026
The Church always spiritualizes secular culture, and we should do the same with Memorial Day.  Let us pray for all those who lived as examples of natural fortitude and who have sacrificed their lives for the protection and freedom of their fellow man.

This is one of the three great feast days of the liturgical year.  We know that after the Ascension, when the disciples had lost their Lord, they found their consolation in prayer with the Virgin Mary, Spouse of the Holy Ghost.  The face of the Earth is renewed through the Mother of God.  The Holy Spirit came today in wind and fire to announce a new covenant between God and His people.  That covenant of love and obedience cannot be found in the world.  Even God Himself lovingly obeys the priest when he utters the words of Consecration.  We need the courage given to the Apostles on this day when the words of the Prophet Joel were fulfilled.  We should cry out and beg God that we too might be changed.

To Bear Our Fruit in Due Season

7th Sunday after Pentecost 2025

The main theme of this Mass is the tree and the fruit it bears.  When we practice good works, we bear good fruit and edify our neighbor, but if we practice evil, we bear bad fruit and scandalize our neighbor.  Our Lord warns us to beware of false prophets and tells us to judge them by their fruits.  Immodesty among Catholics offends the Sacred Heart of Jesus and is a temptation to our neighbor, so we must strive to remain always modest, especially during the heat of summer.  It is important for all Catholics to read the lives of the saints so we might imitate their virtues and become “the tree planted beside the water, which bears fruit in due season.”

Baptized in His Death

6th Sunday After Pentecost 2025
This beautiful Mass refers to us when it speaks of the faithful who have come to hear the word of God.  Our Lord has compassion on our weakness and provides us with the Bread of Life to sustain us.  The Body and Blood of Christ is only for the baptized who are united to Our Lord through grace.  We have a solemn duty to preserve sanctifying grace in our souls.  No longer are we under the slavery of the devil but rather true children of God.  Our Lord and His Mother demonstrate unbounded solicitude for our salvation.  Our Lord conquered death and sin by His Sacrifice on the Cross, and it is by that death that we are given life.

Slow To Anger

5th Sunday After Pentecost 2025
We should read the account of the martyrdom of St. Speratus and his companions from the year A.D. 180, which recounts the uncompromising heroism of the faithful in the early Church.

Catholics should represent Heaven on Earth.  Most of the world has never heard of the State of Grace, yet we have been given the privilege of possessing it.  While we remain in Sanctifying Grace, we are intimately tied to the Trinity and are part of the army of Christ.

This Mass warns us against the sin of anger and how it first grows in our mind before it is expressed in action.  Holy Scripture has many warnings against the capital sin of anger.  However, anger is a passion and is meant to be used only for a good purpose.  As with all passions, the use of anger should be directed by prudence.
