God, Help Your Spouse!

Feast of Saints Peter & Paul 2024
This feast is considered so great that, since the earliest days of the church, it was given a vigil for preparation.  Red vestments are used on this day to symbolize not only the blood of these two great martyrs, but more importantly the fire of their love.  They died for everything that true Catholics believe today.  This Epistle reminds us that God is protecting us, even in our darkest moments.  We must respond to the graces of God generously and promptly, following the example of St. Peter.  The conversion of St. Paul demonstrates God’s power to bring good out of evil.  We should be inspired to see how these two great sinners became two of the greatest saints.

The Death of Saints and Sinners

5th Sunday after Pentecost 2024
It is not sufficient for those inclined to anger to wait for the moment of temptation before fighting their vice.  To practice the opposite virtues of meekness and fraternal charity is the most effective way of combatting unjust anger.  Those who persecute the faithful, should stir our pity rather than our anger, especially when we remember the judgments in store for them.  Good Catholics do not wish the frightful death of an unrepentant sinner on even their worst enemies.  We ought to receive injuries and insults cheerfully whenever possible and pray that our enemies be converted, so they may die happily in God’s grace.

Separated From Our Father

4th Sunday after Pentecost 2024
St. Jerome explains the meaning of Our Lord’s quote, “Call no man Father,” telling the faithful that it refers to giving man the honor due to God alone.  The theme for this Sunday is hope.  We have much to endure in this battle we wage against the devil.  After Adam fell the world was thrown into chaos and we struggle interiorly with concupiscence and the pride of life.  We remain hopeful because Our Lord told us that if we ask the Father anything in His name, it shall be given to us.  True Catholics believe what we are instructed to believe and obediently conform our intellect to the teaching of the Church.

Nothing Without God

3rd Sunday after Pentecost 2024
Green vestments are worn during this season to express the virtue of Hope.  We are instructed to hope in nothing but God Who tells us, “Without Me you can do nothing.”  We must know the truth about ourselves, always remembering what we used to be and remaining prepared for the time of our visitation.  Evil people are rewarded in this life for those good things they do because they cannot receive any recompense in Hell.  God’s friends are persecuted and suffer in this life, but will be rewarded for all eternity in the next.  We must pray without ceasing that we will be saved.

A Vocation Worth the Fight

2nd Sunday after Pentecost 2024
Tonsure Ceremony
With first tonsure one becomes a cleric.  This ceremony has been part of the Church since the 5th century.  Just as slaves were shorn to show their complete ownership by their master, so the cleric shows that he now belongs to Christ.  The surplice is imposed to represent putting on the new man, because holiness is no longer an aspiration but a direct call.  Our Lord promised to those who give up the world a hundredfold in this life.  The candle carried in procession represents the soul of those to be tonsured, and when the bishop receives and extinguishes the candle, it demonstrates that the very will of the cleric is offered to God.  God will grant the necessary graces to do everything he asks, if the cleric remains confident in Him as he forges on towards the goal.

Trinity In Unity

Trinity Sunday 2024
Today we honor the dogma at the heart of our Catholic Faith.  God, through His Divine Son, chose to reveal the truth of the Holy Trinity to mankind.  Although we could never reason to the existence of this great doctrine on our own, nor can we completely understand it in our finite minds, we firmly believe it through the gift of faith.  We should recite the Athanasian Creed to reaffirm our faith in opposition to those who deny it.  We must believe everything that Christ has revealed to us and be prepared at every moment to defend it.

Where Are The Martyrs?

Pentecost Sunday 2024
Pentecost is called the birthday of the Catholic Church because, although it was conceived on the Cross, this is the first day the Church manifested herself in the world.  Not only every human being, but all nations and governments are called to convert to Christ.  True Catholics reject the false tenets of religious indifferentism.  The Holy Ghost expresses God’s love for us because He is the Person of Love.  In these days when there is such great cowardice within the Church, we pray for the virtue of fortitude to help us persevere in the face of adversity.  The Holy Ghost will provide us with the strength of the saints and martyrs.

Born In The Desert

9th Sunday After Pentecost 2023
God gives us virtues to help us cooperate in the salvation which He is accomplishing.  God gave a warning to Solomon that he would destroy Israel and make an example of it before all nations if it transgressed God’s law.  The Holy Machabees are a perfect example of divine fortitude and loyalty to God.  Even the Mother of the Machabees encouraged her sons in sacrificing themselves for God and resisting the temptations of evil men.  Let’s learn from our ancestors, as Saint Paul says, so that we may join them in Heaven.

Be Wise As Serpents

8th Sunday After Pentecost 2023
Christ does not commend the dishonesty of the steward in the Gospel, but rather his prudent foresight.  God has made us stewards of our lives and it is up to us to use our God-given talents to better know Him, love Him, and serve Him.  We see the ambitions of the world, but how much more desirous should we be for heavenly goods.  We too will have to make an account of our stewardship, and if we live our lives as a continual act of love we will be called to enter into the joy of our God.

The Sabbatine Privilege

7th Sunday After Pentecost 2023
Our Lady of Mount Carmel – We must not be deceived by wolves in sheep’s clothing.  There are many false teachers in the church who use the same language as true Catholics but mean something different.  In the disastrous results of modernism in the Church, we see the bad fruit of false prophets.  The Carmelite Order is the only religious order that has its origins in the Old Testament.  The Order fled to Europe when it fell under persecution and was placed under the rule of St. Simon Stock.  In great discouragement, St. Simon was visited by the Blessed Mother who gave him the scapular saying, “Whosoever dies clothed in this Scapular shall not suffer eternal fire.”
