Transfiguration Conference

Feast Of The Transfiguration 2019
In this conference we learn that transfiguration is not uncommon in the lives of the saints.  The Collect for the Mass today is key to unlocking this feast day.  It says that the mystery or sacrament of the Faith is confirmed through this theophany.  The outward sign instituted by Christ to give grace is Our Lord Himself and the Father commands us to listen to Him.  Moses and Elias confirm this while speaking to Jesus about His upcoming Death.  This event marked Christ’s directing of His Life now to the Cross.  He relaxed in prayer and allowed His divinity to manifest through His humanity.  This strengthened Him and His apostles for what lay ahead.  The Transfiguration is our bulwark against all our trials today.

Sacrament Of Life

Laetare Sunday 2019
After learning about the wonderful saints of this week, Francis of Paola, Isidore of Seville and Vincent Ferrer, the Epistle of St. Paul about the son of the slave girl and the heir of the free woman is explained.  Then the Gospel, which is the beginning of St. John’s famous sixth chapter about the Bread of Life, describes the miracle of the multiplication of the loaves and fishes by Our Lord and how His apostles shared in this miraculous power.  All this prefigures the Holy Eucharist and the power of transubstantiation which Christ would give to His priests.  Coming in the middle of Lent, this Sunday encourages us to persevere in our penances and to draw strength to do so from Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament.

God Enlightens Everyone

2nd Sunday of Advent
The Gospel for the Second Sunday of Advent needs explanation because, contrary to a superficial reading of the text, St. John is not doubting that Christ is the Messiah but St. John is directing his disciples away from himself and to the Savior.  This Mass is one of sanctity and the importance of good will as we prepare for Christ’s coming at Christmas in our hearts. This week also has wonderful virgin-martyr saints that are models of imitation for us in their prayer life and the good instruction by their parents.

All Saints Chapel

All Saints Day 2018

Our chapel could be named for All Saints Day because we have the Beatitudes from the Gospel on the walls along with statues of the saints, especially those who were sinners.  This is a reminder of the origin of this feast in transferring relics to St. Mary of the Martyrs in Rome, the previously pagan temple of the Pantheon.  Today is a great celebration in heaven as all who have lived ordinary lives in extraordinary supernatural ways are honored.  We are called to imitate them and to join them one day.

We Have Reason To Hope

3rd Sunday after Pentecost 2018
The Sacred Heart is shown to us in the Mass of this Sunday.  The texts emphasize the hope of this season symbolized by the color green.  Our Lord describes Himself in the Gospel as the Good Shepherd who carries His lost sheep home on His shoulders.  St. Peter warns in the Epistle that the devil is an obstacle on our path to heaven and we must know our enemy in order to combat him.  He was a murder and liar from the beginning and those are the evidence of his presence in the world today which is seen in recent news items.  Despite the dire circumstances we must have hope.

Blessing of St. Blaise

Feast Of St. Blaise 2018
St. Blaise was an early martyr bishop whose intercessory power was well-known especially by two famous miracles.  The elements of these divine favors are what make up the blessing of throats on his feastday.  The spiritual benefits from this sacramental are increased by our devout reception of this blessing.

Remission Of Temporal Punishment

First Friday December 2017

In this conference, the beautiful and consoling teaching of the Church on Indulgences is explained.  Beginning with the early Church we see how the treasury of merits won by Christ, His Blessed Mother and the saints was opened for the benefit of sinners.  The errors of the Reformation in distorting this doctrine are touched upon and practical steps are given to avail ourselves of Indulgences in our daily lives.

Change Self – Change the World

Feast Of Saints Peter And Paul 2016

In this sermon, we are reminded of the heroic lives of Saints Peter and Paul as the pillars of the Faith.  We too must have the great love and generous hearts as they did.  Despite the sad situation around us we can change our lives by becoming saints and thereby change the world.
