We Must Be Changed

Good Friday 2024
We do not have the Mass today because even though the Mass is the re-presentation of Our Lord’s death, it is also the reminder of His Resurrection.  The Church avoids even the slightest hint of joy on this day.  An infinite offense was offered to God and only an Infinite Being could make up for it.  Why did Christ do this?  So that we would appreciate the evil of sin, and the great love of God.  We prostrate under the weight of our sins at the beginning of this ceremony, and we recite the solemn prayers in union with Christ on the Cross.  We must pray that today we remove all the obstacles we have placed in the way of God’s grace.

A Silent And Holy Night

Christmas Midnight Mass 2023
It is a true joy to relive the happiness of that night in Bethlehem in which our Savior was born.  It was in silence and solitude Our Lord entered the world.  Just as Christ passed through the rock of His tomb at the moment of His Resurrection, He passed through the womb of the Blessed Mother, without violating her virginity.  This chapel is our Bethlehem, in which we relive the moments of the Nativity.  We are united with all of our forefathers throughout the history of the Church.  Our Lord came not only for the glory of His Father, but for us and our salvation.  Christmas is the beginning of Christ’s victory over the world.

Saints Who Changed The World

All Saints Day Evening 2023
Today we celebrate one of the marks of the true Church – her holiness.  The almost innumerable saints in Heaven are the result of the redemption Christ won on the cross.  Today we especially celebrate the unknown saints.  If we wish to change the course of history, we must be saints.  There are many examples of God using His holy people as instruments of change in the world, but we must first overcome our self-will and prideful inclinations.  God has great things in store for us.

Everything Is For The Saints

All Saints Day 2023
St. John expresses God’s love and mercy for the Hebrews in today’s passage from the Apocalypse, but it is also a call for all men.  Every man is called to be a saint.  The origins of this feast go back to the beginning of time, because even the angels are included today.  We gain innumerable graces when we imitate the saints.  Today we also make up for neglecting the saints throughout the previous year.  One soul is worth more than all the rest of creation.  It is not only possible but necessary for us to be saints.  We must be Christians, not in name only, but we must be truly Christlike.

True And False Obedience

3rd Sunday after Easter 2023
Only those who are sorry receive that forgiveness of Christ.  Our Lord in this Gospel says that in a little while He will die and then in a little while His Apostles will see Him alive again in glory.  It is not in the Resurrection but in His glorious Second Coming when we shall experience joy unimaginable.  We are told that those who pray will be saved and through mystic prayer we may begin to experience Heaven on Earth.  We should read the lives of the Saints and imitate them according to supernatural prudence.

Complete Trust In The Shepherd

2nd Sunday after Easter 2023
There is only one fold and one shepherd. We have complete trust in Christ as our Good Shepherd, and it is the call of all priests and bishops to watch over the flock and to bring those who are lost back to the true fold. As we have heard before and we continue to reiterate, the price of our salvation is the Blood of the Lamb – the Blood of Christ, shed for our salvation. The beautiful Paschal Candle stands as a consoling reminder of Christ’s presence with us for the forty days after His Resurrection.

The True Passover

Easter Vigil 2023
Everything is dark at the beginning of this ceremony, just as it was before the creation of the cosmos.  The darkness is representative of the Old Testament, while the Lumen Christi, or Light of Christ, is the New Testament.  The completion of the Passover takes place this evening.  Evidence has been found in recent years of the passage through the Red Sea, but tonight, in a real way, we celebrate the true Passover, which is renewed through the liturgy.  All of creation is made clear to us this night.  Our faith is made perfect in the Resurrection.

Easter Joy

Easter Sunday 2022
Lent has passed by quickly but we take away the lesson that the “Imitation of Christ” reiterates for us that we win heaven by work and suffering.  With the Resurrection we share in the happiness of being with Our Lord once again.  Christ has proved that He conquered sin by overcoming its consequence, death.  As soon as He rose again He visited His Blessed Mother and later St. Mary Magdalen and all the others during His active Easter Sunday.  We must not let the fervor and devotion that carried us the past forty days subside so that we are reduced to anything less than our spiritual enthusiasm today.  We must build on what we have so to draw closer to our Risen Lord and Savior.

Catechumen To Neophyte

Easter Vigil 2022
The Easter Vigil is the culmination of our Lenten retreat and especially for the catechumens who are baptized and who will receive their first Holy Communions at the Mass which follows.  The Liturgy brings light to the darkness of the world of sin and sings the praise of Our Lord’s Paschal candle.  Then we are reminded of the miracles around water in preparation for the blessing of the Easter and baptismal waters which lead to the baptism of our catechumens.  The Mass of Christ’s triumphant Resurrection will end with our Easter communion and our union with the Risen Savior.  The newest members of the Church now begin their lives as part of the faithful.

Humility Of All The Saints

All Saints Day 2021
The Church always celebrated groups of saints and today’s feast includes all the saints.  In the seventh century the pagan Pantheon was consecrated to God and the relics of the saints in the catecombs were brought to this temple for veneration and honoring.  God gave this feast so we thank Him for the saints, we can imitate them, implore their intercession and make reparation for any dishonor shown them or the angels.  If worldlings work so hard following their pagan ideals why can’t Christians work as hard to love God as He deserves?  Humility is the secret of the saints and the law of mercy.
