Love Is Life Or Death

This week is the feast of All Saints which honors God in His heroic examples of sanctifying power.  Today is the feast of Christ the King which was instituted by Pope Pius XI in 1925 to combat secularism and to re-assert God’s rights in modern society which have been denied.  Christ is King in His divinity and in His humanity through the grace of union, headship, priesthood and conquest on the Cross.  He established His Church with rights to teach, rule and sanctify.  We pray daily in the Lord’s Prayer “Thy Kingdom Come”.

Transfiguration Conference

Feast Of The Transfiguration 2019
In this conference we learn that transfiguration is not uncommon in the lives of the saints.  The Collect for the Mass today is key to unlocking this feast day.  It says that the mystery or sacrament of the Faith is confirmed through this theophany.  The outward sign instituted by Christ to give grace is Our Lord Himself and the Father commands us to listen to Him.  Moses and Elias confirm this while speaking to Jesus about His upcoming Death.  This event marked Christ’s directing of His Life now to the Cross.  He relaxed in prayer and allowed His divinity to manifest through His humanity.  This strengthened Him and His apostles for what lay ahead.  The Transfiguration is our bulwark against all our trials today.

Protector Of Holy Church

Feast Of St. Joseph 2019
The Gospel for this feast is taken from St. Matthew about the so-called doubt of St. Joseph.  These few verses contain a wealth of doctrinal information about his fatherly love of the Son of God, his pure love of his wife, the Blessed Virgin Mary, and the unique holiness of St. Joseph.  Because of these prerogatives he is a wonderful intercessor for everyone and every need as attested by countless saints.  The litany of his praises is deservingly offered to him on his feast in gratitude for all he does for souls.

Our Presentation

Feast Of The Purification 2019

The feast of the Purification also celebrates Our Lord’s Presentation in the Temple. The Mosaic law required a mother to offer sacrifices before she could be allowed again to participate in worship. In addition, it stipulated that a first born son should be offered to God Who would then return him to the parents for raising him. The Blessed Mother and her Divine Son were exempt from these requirements because of Their sinlessness and holiness but They showed us the way of humility today. We must imitate Them in offering ourselves to God.

Saint Joseph – Spouse & Father

Conference On Passion Sunday 2018
In this conference we learn about the upcoming feast of St. Joseph.  His greatest titles are Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary and Foster Father of the Son of God.  God the Father entrusted His Divine Son to the care of St. Joseph whose virginal paternity was a perfect image of the Begetting of the Son by the Father.  The true marriage of St. Joseph to Our Lady is the foundation of his relationship through her with Jesus Christ.  He is protector of the Church and universal patron of all our needs.

The Gift Of Lent

First Sunday in Lent 2018
Grace is present at every moment for us but especially during Lent.  We, as Christians, must not be a scandal to those in the world.  Lent is our retreat and it is dangerous to our spiritual life not to realize this.  The virtue of chastity cannot be practiced without constant help from grace.  We need the sacraments, prayer and spiritual reading to be holy.  Christ was tempted in three ways which are conquered by our penances of fasting, prayer and almsgiving.  Remembering the four last things will help save us.

God Will Hear Us

Ash Wednesday 2018
In 1741 the pope declared that Lent is the true sign of the Christian fighting for his salvation by means of penance through fasting which is understood by the receiving of the sacramental of ashes today.  The entire Septuagesima season focused our attention on sin and our identifying the predominant fault we want to eradicate now.  We begin our forty days of prayers, almsgiving and fasting with confidence that God will hear our plea and forgive us as He did with the Ninivites at the preaching of the prophet Jonas.

Deny Our Lord Nothing

Feast Of The Holy Family 2018

From St. Paul’s Epistle for the feast of the Holy Family we learn about charity and mercy.  We are bound to forgive whenever someone is truly sorry for his offenses against us. The Gospel for this feast is about the finding of Our Lord in the Temple which St. Luke wrote from the recollections of our Blessed Mother.  Christ’s first recorded words when He was twelve years old show His knowledge of His identity as Son of God and His mission to do what His Father commands.  Coming after the Epiphany we learn about the Magi and their star of attraction which led them to the Messias.  We too must be generous and follow Our Savior.

In His Will Is Our Peace

Octave Day of Nativity 2018

The Sacred Liturgy, like nature itself, anticipates great feasts, celebrates them and only gradually leaves them.  So Christmas has its First Vespers, its three Masses and then a week to relish the reality of the Incarnation before renewing the mystery again on its octave day, today.  We also have the recalling of Our Lord’s circumcision on this day when He first shed His Blood for our salvation and we profess our love and devotion to the Blessed Mother for her divine maternity and perpetual virginity.  Today we are grateful for all this and we consign our past to God’s mercy and live in the present moment by God’s grace.  We entrust the future to God’s Providence and use prayer, reflection and counsel to know His signified Will and His Will of good pleasure.  We will achieve the tranquility of order in the coming days by knowing and following God’s plan for us.

At the vigil Mass the joy of Christmas is already felt and this happy way that we receive the Infant King reassures us that His second coming will not be a harsh one for us.  On this last day of Advent St. Joseph is brought before us as the worthy descendant of David who will protect the Blessed Mother from scandal, hardship and from the devil.  Our receiving this “Bread from Heaven” will ease our burdens in this life.
