13th Sunday after Pentecost 2024 The undying devotion of even a brute animal towards its master puts us to shame. How much should we love our Savior and how unwilling should we be to leave His side? Today we are reminded of our need for God’s help. The disease of sin that we carry is far worse than that of the lepers in the Gospel. Their disease did not make them enemies of God as ours does. We act as if there is nothing wrong with us, despite our sins. We must never forget what we owe to God, so that we will not remain ungrateful in the face of God’s generosity in our lives. #20240818S
Assumption Evening 2024 The Assumption is not an event recorded in Scripture, but we must remember faith does not come through reading but through hearing. The Apostles learned everything by listening to the teachings of Our Lord. Our bodies are destined to be with our souls in Heaven, not to remain in the world. How could a person expect to be admitted into Heaven if he denies that Our Lord’s own Mother is there? We must make up for that neglect shown to the Blessed Mother by our own fervor on this day. We must continue the fight for the Virgin Mary’s honor and our salvation. #20240815K
Feast Of The Assumption 2024 This is the greatest of the feast days in honor of the Blessed Mother. This dogma, which has been passed down to us from the Apostles, is so critical that we cannot be saved without belief in it. All the aspects of the Assumption call to mind the prerogatives of the Mother of God. She is above all women, untouched by sin and death. This Mass begins with the words of St. John, recalling his vision of the woman of the Apocalypse, and continues with the story of Judith, a type of the Blessed Mother. We are her seed, and we follow the great Queen of Heaven in the battle with the seed of the devil. Her body was the tabernacle of the Son of God and was so sanctified that it deserved its glorification. #20240815M
12th Sunday after Pentecost 2024 This Epistle shows how God has accommodated Himself to mankind. Saint Paul reminds us to practice the Spirit of the Law. Although there were holy men who followed the Old Law, it had no grace in itself. However, it constantly promised the coming of the New Law, the coming of Jesus Christ. Today’s gospel reminds us that we must never stop loving. We must love God, our neighbor, and our enemies, and follow the example of Our Lord and the saints in doing so. #20240811K
11th Sunday after Pentecost 2024 Confirmation Sunday August 2024 – In Confirmation one receives a character, an increase of sanctifying grace, as well as special sacramental grace. Through this sacrament we receive a greater share in Christ’s strength and victory on the cross. Those confirmed are now adults in the Faith and are enabled to defend the Church publicly. Confirmation is known as the Sacrament of the Holy Ghost because through it we are given a perfection of His seven gifts. The Holy Ghost is the Person of Love and, if we pray for it, He will give us a share of the bond of union which exists among the Persons of the Trinity. #20240804
10th Sunday after Pentecost 2024 Today’s liturgy is directed towards the proud. St. Paul corrects the Corinthians who took pride in the gifts given to them by God and reminds them that these gifts are for the assistance of our neighbor. An imperfect form of humility begins with a focus on self – our weakness, dependence, and need. A more perfect humility remains focused on God and acknowledges both our gifts and shortcomings, without allowing pride to enter. With prayer we can obtain true humility. God offers us an audience at all times of the day or night. Without asking Him for the graces necessary, we will not obtain salvation, but when we pray in all humility, we invite His assistance into our lives. #20240728B
8th Sunday after Pentecost 2024 We are living in a constant spiritual battle. With the grace of Confirmation, we become true soldiers of Christ. We must preserve the health of our souls at all costs, so we do not perish in the next life. The Our Father is the prayer taught to us by God Himself. It is a powerful prayer and should be recited daily. We should be just as prudent, clever, and resourceful in obtaining Heaven, as the worldlings are in providing for their temporal lives. #20240714K
7th Sunday after Pentecost 2024 The readings for today’s Mass teach us about the seventh Gift of the Holy Ghost – wisdom. Our Lord has warned us that our path will be difficult, but He has also assured us of His help. Parents must combat the pagan principles being instilled in their children. Even within those of the elderly population, who should be wiser, we find misplaced priorities and worldly ambition. We must be willing to make sacrifices to reach Heaven, as we remain vigilant in avoiding false guides. We must never do the work of God for ourselves. #20240707M
Conference on 1st Friday July 2024 In St. Paul’s instruction to the young bishop, St. Timothy, he emphasized the importance of spiritual reading. If this instruction is given to a bishop, it applies all the more so to the laity. Prayer and spiritual reading are necessary for the growth of sanctity.
St. Anthony Mary Zaccaria became a physician in his early life but soon discovered that his calling was not to heal men’s bodies but their souls. He dedicated his life to the assistance of the dying and the welfare of children, and his great love of the Holy Eucharist led to his institution of the 40 Hours Devotion.
In gratitude for the victory over the forces of Free Masonry, Pope Pius IX elevated the feast of the Visitation. There were two annunciations in preparation for the coming of the Redeemer – the annunciation of the birth of St. John the Baptist and that of Our Lord. St. John the Baptist was the herald of Our Lord not only in his words, but in his life. In the Visitation we see the great love of the Blessed Mother, who cares for even our smallest needs. #20240705
Feast of the Precious Blood 2024 The devotion to the Most Precious Blood encompasses every aspect of our Faith, because it is through the merits of Christ’s Blood that all good things come to us. The sacrifice of the Son of God surpasses all the sacrifices of mankind in every conceivable way. Just as the Blood of Our Lord flowed from the wound in His side, the devotion to the Precious Blood flows from the devotion to the Sacred Heart. In honoring the Sacred Heart, we honor Our Lord’s great love and mercy, while devotion to the Precious Blood pays homage to the fruit of that love in the Redemption. Even our ability to give adequate thanksgiving to our Redeemer comes through the Eucharistic Body and Blood of the altar. It is only in the infinite merits of the Precious Blood that we have hope for the future. #20240701B
