Deny Our Lord Nothing

Feast Of The Holy Family 2018

From St. Paul’s Epistle for the feast of the Holy Family we learn about charity and mercy.  We are bound to forgive whenever someone is truly sorry for his offenses against us. The Gospel for this feast is about the finding of Our Lord in the Temple which St. Luke wrote from the recollections of our Blessed Mother.  Christ’s first recorded words when He was twelve years old show His knowledge of His identity as Son of God and His mission to do what His Father commands.  Coming after the Epiphany we learn about the Magi and their star of attraction which led them to the Messias.  We too must be generous and follow Our Savior.

In His Will Is Our Peace

Octave Day of Nativity 2018

The Sacred Liturgy, like nature itself, anticipates great feasts, celebrates them and only gradually leaves them.  So Christmas has its First Vespers, its three Masses and then a week to relish the reality of the Incarnation before renewing the mystery again on its octave day, today.  We also have the recalling of Our Lord’s circumcision on this day when He first shed His Blood for our salvation and we profess our love and devotion to the Blessed Mother for her divine maternity and perpetual virginity.  Today we are grateful for all this and we consign our past to God’s mercy and live in the present moment by God’s grace.  We entrust the future to God’s Providence and use prayer, reflection and counsel to know His signified Will and His Will of good pleasure.  We will achieve the tranquility of order in the coming days by knowing and following God’s plan for us.

Be Humble Like The Baby Jesus

Christmas 2017 Midnight Mass

Against the world’s propaganda, we proclaim the truth of Christmas that the Son of God became man and was born in Bethlehem of the ever Virgin Mary who remained a virgin physically and morally before, during and after the birth of her Son. Christ did this first for the glory of His Father and then to give Himself to us.  This union of the divine and human natures in the Person of the Word is a supreme act of humility that will last for as long as God is God.  As Jesus showed us the way by becoming a little Infant, so we must heed His words that unless we become as little children we will not enter the enter the kingdom of heaven.

Our Special Marian Feast

Immaculate Conception Evening 2017

Our Lady’s Immaculate Conception is special to us because several of our community were clothed in the habit on this feast and because several of us visited the home of Pope Pius IX who proclaimed this teaching.  From the first moment of her existence Our Lady was free from original sin in view of the merits won by her Divine Son on the Cross.  All Catholics love this beautiful doctrine.

The Gifts Of The Blessed Virgin Mary

Immaculate Conception 2017

The brightness of this feast honoring the Immaculate Conception is seen in stark contrast to the darkness of those who should know the truths of the Faith and do not.  Our Lady received her initial plenitude of grace today and all the gifts which accompany it.  Her humility is prominent among them and was singular in her becoming the Mother of God. This was to undo the terrible pride which led to the sin of Adam and Eve.  Finally, the tremendous value of sanctifying grace is seen by the fact that it cost the Blood of God to obtain it.

This Is Our Feast

All Saints Day 2017

The origins of this feast of All Saints come from the consecration of the church St. Mary of the Martyrs (formerly the pagan Pantheon temple) and the transfer of many of the relics of the martyrs from the catacombs to this church.  This holyday of obligation recalls the mark of the Church, holiness, and how each of us is capable of attaining it.  Any saints not on the universal calendar or uncanonized are celebrated today and the texts for this Mass can be claimed by each of us as our own.

A Feast Full Of Emotion

Seven Sorrows of the Blessed Virgin Mary 2017

Our Lady’s seven sorrows do not encompass all that She suffered during Her life but these are the important ones which prepared Her to be our Compassionate Mother.  The reverse of the Miraculous Medal, which was given us by our Heavenly Queen, is a link to this devotion of Our Lady of Sorrows.  The description of the medal bears this out and the Immaculate Conception, which is the medal’s official title and what is depicted on the obverse of the medal, is the necessary prerequisite for the creation of a worthy Mother of the Redeemer and a worthy Co-Redemptrix.  The Mass and office for today’s feast makes us realize these truths with much emotional force.  The concluding and moving personal story about this devotion is a beautiful and fitting testimony to its essential role in our lives.

Her Heart – A Symbol of Love

Assumption Evening 2017 The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is her ultimate triumph over the devil, sin and death.  This is why the story of Judith is recounted in the Mass for this feastday.  Our Lady was taken to heaven at the end of her life by the power of God and she reigns…

Grace, Love And Union

Assumption Day 2017
Through Our Lady’s Assumption God has empowered the Mother of God with extraordinary intercessory power which enables Our Lady at Fatima to promise salvation to those who embrace devotion to Her Immaculate Heart.  The anticipated resurrection of the Blessed Mother is one of the reasons why She can assure heaven to Her devotees.  The Immaculate Conception and the Blessed Virgin Mary’s fullness of grace and love are causes of Her Assumption.  Her union with the Passion and Death of Her Son is a further reason for Her joining Him in His Resurrection and Ascension.

I Will Save Through The Rosary

Feast Of St. Dominic – 1st Friday August 2017

St. Dominic travelled through southern France on a trip to Rome with his bishop in the 13th century and he was moved with compassion for the plight of the fallen away Catholics there who were deceived by an ancient heresy which had made a resurgence and was known as Catharism (or Albigensianism).  St. Dominic besought the help of the Blessed Mother when his efforts were not successful and Our Lady told him to use Her Rosary as an aid to his preaching.  This assured him success and has done the same throughout the centuries as seen at Lepanto and Belgrade, for examples.  The Blessed Virgin Mary promised that someday She would save the world through the Rosary.
