Mother’s Day

Fourth Sunday after Easter 2017

This Mass prepares us for the upcoming feasts of the Ascension and Pentecost when Our Lord returns to heaven and sends the Holy Ghost.  This day is also a secular holiday in which we honor our mothers.  Falling as it does during the month of May our thoughts naturally turn to our heavenly Mother and all that she has done for us.  A tangible sign of this comes under her title of “Queen of Peace” which was added to her litany and soon afterwards led to her apparitions at Fatima and the end of the first World War.

Compassionate Mother

Friday in Passion Week 2017 – 1st Friday

The prophecy of Caiphas about the necessity of Christ’s death for the people is an example of how God’s word can even come from the mouth of His enemy.  However, the Friday in Passion Week is especially dedicated to our Mother of Sorrows.  Our Lady stood by the Cross of her Son and suffered with Him.  The Blessed Mother is the example for true friends of Our Savior and she will make them be like her and her Son.

Nothing Is Impossible With God

Feast Of The Annunciation 2017

The Son of God became a Man at the Annunciation and so began His priesthood as the mediator between God and men.  At the same time, Our Lady became the Mother of God.  This could only take place because, as St. Gabriel the Archangel said, “nothing is impossible with God”.  Virginity and Maternity were joined miraculously and the Blessed Mother lived a life of trust in God that made her magnanimous and munificent.  Devotion and imitation of her will enable anyone to overcome any challenge in fulfilling God’s Will.

St. Joseph Is Essential To Redemption

Feast Of St. Joseph 2017

St. Joseph was a holy man who fulfilled the law with devotion and heart-felt piety.  He was chosen to be the spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary and to be the foster-father of the Son of God.  In that capacity he was the image of God the Father.  As the redemption depended on Our Lady’s “Fiat” at the Annunciaton so it was protected by her marriage to St. Joseph and his protection of her and the Holy Infant.

Rule Of Faith

2nd Sunday After Epiphany 2017

St. Paul instructs us in today’s epistle to do all by the Rule of Faith which is the guide that Tradition has over the written word of God.  Faith is paramount in life and essential to enter heaven.  The entire Liturgy was given by Our Lord and the miracle of changing water into wine pre-figured transubstantiation.

Live In The Present

Octave Of Christmas 2017

The Octave Day Of Christmas is a re-celebration of the Nativity.  It also commemorates the Circumcision of Our Lord as well as the Solemnity of The Blessed Virgin Mary.  The Church has long celebrated major feasts for more than just one day through what are called octaves or 8-day periods, week-long celebrations which include the day of the Feast itself.  Today is the 8th day of the Octave of the Nativity and it gives us the opportunity to once again rejoice in this tremendous Feast Of Christmas.  As well, it celebrates the Circumcision of Our Lord which is a “type” for our Christian Baptism, as it was for the Jews a sign of the individual’s acceptance into the “chosen people” or the Jewish religion of the Old Testament.  Inasmuch as the circumcision of Jesus was carried out on the lap of the Mother of God, it also reflects the solemnity of Mary in Her singular role as Co-Redemptrix of the human race.

God Became A Man

Christmas Midnight Mass 2016

St. Joseph’s care for Blessed Mother and The Holy Infant is explained.  We also learn of the significance of the swaddling clothes and that the Savior wrapped in them was how the shepherds recognized Him.  Finally, the beautiful and consoling doctrine of the Incarnation is clearly stated for us to appreciate.

Enmity Between You And The Woman

Immaculate Conception 2016

Our Lady was conceived without Original Sin, which every human being contracts because of Adam’s sin.  Our own country is dedicated to Her under this title of the Immaculate Conception.  Our Lady at Lourdes identified herself to St. Bernadette Soubirous by saying: “I am the Immaculate Conception.”  In the epistle from today’s Mass taken from the book of Proverbs we see the excellence of Wisdom applied to Our Lady in the words: “The Lord possessed me in the beginning of His ways, before He made anything, from the beginning, I was set up from eternity.”  And, it is She who will crush the Head of the Serpent and those who find Her “shall find life, and shall have salvation from the Lord.”   So, we have a special opportunity to flee to Our Mother as the patroness of our Country and the One that will crush the Head of the Serpent.

Way Of The Mother

Feast Of The Seven Sorrows Of The Blessed Virgin Mary 2016

Fr. Superior mentions in today’s Epistle how Judith saves the Jewish people from the terrible Holifernes. She is a type of Our Holy Mother saving us from the terrible clutches of Satan.  He then recalls briefly the Seven Sorrows of the Blessed Virgin.   Fr. Superior makes  an analogy in describing how we must embrace our own sorrows in life as a kind of “Tuition for Life.”  He describes Our Holy Mother in her role as Co-redemptrix of the Human Race and how Our Lord, while on the Cross, gave Her to us to be our solace and our hope as we pay our “Tuition for Life.”   Most especially are we to remember that with the Cross we have already won as long as we accept and embrace it in our lives.
