Why God Permits Suffering

Today is also Father’s Day.  This vocation is attacked in our society and only adds to the suffering and sacrifices that fathers must endure for the sake of their families but God always hears their prayers and heaven awaits them.  The Black Forest fires that have been destroying many homes in our area have even threatened us but God has preserved us.  We have many spiritual helps to protect us and all are welcome here in case of danger.  Things like this make people wonder how evils exist in a world created by our heavenly Father Who saw that all was good.  Non-Catholics are at a loss to answer such questions and some conclude that God cannot exist.  We know that there are many reasons why we suffer and imitating Our Lord on the cross and winning eternal glory is certainly one of them.

Aid on Our Journey to Heaven

Easter Vigil 2013
All that Our Lord won for us on Calvary – the justification, divine life, and divine assistance He merited – could not be given to us until He rose from the dead.  The wounds He still has on His body are like channels of grace.  We are united to our living Redeemer in Heaven.  Through the signs of the liturgy, all the gifts of Heaven are brought down and applied to each of us.  One of the first gifts we are given is faith.  The Light of the World illumines our souls in the midst of the darkness of the devil.  If we are true followers of Christ, we do not walk in darkness but have the light of life.  This truth is represented by the powerful sacramental of the Paschal Candle.  As the Hebrews followed the Pillar of Fire through the desert to the Promised Land, we follow Christ through all the trouble and bitterness of our lives.  We sing a hymn of joy, because, through our faith, all our trials only increase our happiness.  We are ready to recommit ourselves to the promises we made in baptism.  Now we are prepared to enter the gates of Heaven which have been opened to us.

The Liturgy of Heaven

Palm Sunday 2013
It is important that we be fervent and attentive during Holy Week.  We do ourselves great harm by not entering into these moments with our hearts and minds.  The world will pass away and mean nothing, but what happens in the liturgy has consequences for all eternity.  We have been given a dignity beyond all comprehension.  God needed nothing outside Himself to be perfectly happy but, in His divine plan, God desired to have His Incarnate Son give Him infinite, external glory.  We join in this infinite glory because we are members of Christ’s Mystical Body.  Today we are united with this moment in Christ life by participating in this liturgy, and we look forward to the ultimate triumph of our King and our procession into the heavenly Jerusalem.  As defeated as Our Lord appears in the world today, this will be as nothing compared to the glory of His coming kingship.

The Lenten Spirit

1st Sunday of Lent 2013
How can souls reach Heaven if they are not taught to pray?  Unfortunately, during these times of great crisis in the Church, there are Catholics who cannot even recite the Lord’s Prayer.  We should always remember when making the Sign of the Cross that we invoke the Holy Trinity.

The power of this season is acknowledged even by the world, although the world will never understand it.  We pray that the ashes we received will be a remedy for all those who implore the Holy Name of Jesus.

Prepare for His Arrival

3rd Sunday Of Advent 2012
Gaudete Sunday
The use of sacramentals is so ancient a practice that it can be traced back to Our Lord Himself.  Blessings and blessed objects of devotion were used by Christ and His Apostles, and these conduits of grace are offered to us to help bring us closer to God.  We are composed of body and soul and God uses both material and spiritual means for our sanctification.

Integrity, control of the soul over the body, was lost with the fall of Adam.  If a person had knowledge of all things in this world and had great power and authority, these gifts are as nothing compared to the smallest degree of Sanctifying Grace.  When we have God’s life in us, we have God Himself.  We must be prepared to be judged at all times.  This Sunday is given to us so we may know that the Lord is near.

A Godly Fear

Last Sunday after Pentecost 2012

✟Father Violette

Sacramentals are holy objects or actions that the Church makes use of to obtain actual graces for us and forgiveness for our venial sins dependent on our disposition.

We speak of the signs of the end times.  The Man of Sin will deceive many by the wonders he will perform, but at the height of his power Christ will strike him down.  We should be affected by a holy fear when contemplating the end of the world just as we should when thinking of our own end.  As a consequence of original sin, we will all face the four last things: death, judgment, and Heaven or Hell.  Faced with our eternal judgment, we rely on God’s mercy and depend on all those things God has given us to make us holy.

We Will Overcome Our Enemies

23rd Sunday after Pentecost 2012

We should be galled by those who call into question the perpetual virginity of the Blessed Mother.  Only a diabolical mind could invent this attack.  The devotion of the five first Saturdays makes up for the assaults on the dogmas of the Immaculate Conception, the perpetual virginity, and the divine maternity.  When we cast our vote for elected officials, we must ensure it is not stained with the blood of any innocent life.  The so-called “pro-life” leaders have been responsible for the murder of more children than their opponents.  The woman in this Gospel account merely touched the tassel of Our Lord’s garment and she was healed.  We too come in contact with Christ and are cured through the sacramentals and indulgences of the Church.

Simplicity and the Holy Rosary

Sermon From
19th Sunday After Pentecost 2012
Great merit may be achieved in this life, not necessarily based on how notable the acts performed are in themselves, but due to the state of soul of the one who performs them.  One must be childlike in his soul – humble, trusting, obedient, loving, and simple.  Simplicity is one of the characteristics of the saints.  They did not over analyze every aspect of their relationship with God or project their desires and aspirations onto Him.  Our ideas of Who God is and what sanctity consists of must be given up when they act as an obstacle to true union.  True spiritual life requires a renunciation of our own opinions, everything else must be rooted in the Holy Scripture and doctrine.

The Holy Rosary should be carried by every Catholic and prayed daily.  It is the true sign, in the eyes of the world, of a Catholic.  The Blessed Mother asks that we perform our daily duties, accept our crosses with alacrity, and pray the Rosary, which unites us to the liturgy.

Miracles for Each of Us

6th Sunday after Pentecost 2012

Apparent death takes place when we can no longer observe the signs of life, but real death takes place when the soul leaves the body – a moment that cannot be observed.  This is why a priest should still be called after apparent death, so that he can conditionally anoint and absolve the deceased.

The Divine Office of today recalls the story of Nathan the prophet chastising King David for his sin, and David’s subsequent conversion.  This should be a reminder to all of us of the necessity of an integral confession.

We are given the leaders that we deserve.  In the face of bad leadership, we must remain faithful to the truth, and we must continually change our lives for the better.

The Central Doctrine of Our Faith

Trinity Sunday 2012
Belief in the Holy Trinity is necessary for our salvation.  Every Mass renews the Passion and death of Our Lord, in which He offers Himself to the Father through the Holy Ghost.  Although there were hints of this doctrine even in the Old Testament, it was not until the public life of Christ that it was clearly taught to the believers.  All Persons are co-equal and co-eternal.  The Father is the Unbegotten, the Son is the Only Begotten, and the Holy Spirit proceeds from both the Father and the Son.  Today we must thank the Trinity for creating us and making us the children of God through Baptism.  All those in the state of grace possess the Holy Trinity dwelling within their souls.
