The Simplicity Of Love

6th Sunday After Pentecost 2023
No matter what our situation might be, we always have enough grace to avoid sin.  There is never an excuse for sin.  If we do not recognize our absolute dependence on God, we will fall.  God created us out of love and all He wants is our love in return.  Just like the saints we are called to love God simply and pray to God simply.  If we follow the simple steps of mental prayer and do this daily there is no doubt about our salvation.

The Necessary Struggle

5th Sunday After Pentecost 2023
We will always have both friends and enemies in this life.  Even the great North American Martyrs, who gave their lives to win converts to Christ, experienced both successes and failures.  Our Lord allows our enemies to tempt us in our continual battle all for a greater good.  Let us be patient and meek as the saints and not allow ourselves to become lax in the spiritual life.  We must remain ever watchful and never cease uprooting our vices.  Continual prayer will bring us to Heaven.

Precious Blood 2023
This feast is the liturgical completion of Good Friday, the day when the Precious Blood was poured out for our salvation.  In these days when our holy Faith is in danger and under attack, we recall the great heritage of martyrs who shed their blood in imitation of Christ.  At the true Mass we have no doubt what takes place at the Consecration.  Christ’s death continues to the end of time and we are invited to be part of it.  If not for the Precious Blood no sins would be forgiven.

The Davids Of The Future

4th Sunday after Pentecost 2023
This is a Mass of great courage and hope.  We know that even when the enemies are encamped around us, they will weaken and fall.  God allows us to see our weakness so that we may turn to Him in prayer.  This is the Mass which tells us not to be afraid.  The evil powers will continue to attack and their propaganda is stronger than ever but if we walk with God, they cannot stop us. We must be faithful to the sacraments and attached to the teachings of Christ.

Soul Of My Soul

Pentecost Sunday 2023
The Jewish feast of Pentecost celebrated the reception of the Old Law, which God gave to Moses.  During the nine days between the Ascension of Our Lord and this feast of Pentecost the apostles prayed the first novena, which was led by the Blessed Mother.  If we wish to progress swiftly in the spiritual life, we must follow the example of the apostles and go to Our Lady.  It is foolish for any priest to rely on his own skills as a preacher because just as it was with the first sermon of St. Peter on this day, it is the Holy Ghost Who moves the hearts of men.

One Redeemer, One Priesthood

Low Sunday 2023
50th Priestly Anniversary of Fr. Ward
We are here first to love and honor God, because this day is dedicated to thanking Him.  We thank God for sending us a holy priest, for the Church, and for her truth.  What better day to speak about the priesthood than the day on which we were given the sacrament of Penance.  The words of Our Lord, “you shall be holy because I am holy,” were said to everyone, but first of all to His priests.  It was Christ who said, “To you it is given to know the mysteries of God.”  Priests are privileged to share in the royal lineage as Christ Himself.

Children of The Hebrews

Palm Sunday 2023
We are a liturgical people, and as we pray so we believe.  Christ bridged the gap between God and man, and He gives us the vehicle through which we may bridge that gap back to Him, in the sacraments and sacramentals of the Church.  Sacramentals are given by Christ through the Church, and the grace we receive is dependent upon our fervor.  The palm gives us the victory; it gives us the strength to persevere towards Heaven.  We should fight during these days to be as close to Our Lord as possible.

Danger in the Calm

4th Sunday after Epiphany 2023
This season reiterates the Church’s teaching that Jesus Christ is both human and divine, a belief which is under attack in our day.  We see both natures of our Redeemer on display in the Gospel account for this Mass.  God sends storms and trials into our lives to shake us from our apathy, purging us of our attachments, and drawing us to Himself.  When we live lives of relative peace, we must be on guard against allowing our fervor to diminish.  Let us use the difficulties of life to stoke the fire of devotion in our hearts.

The Battle for Souls

16th Sunday After Pentecost 2022
The Lord is sweet and mild.  It should be easy for us to love our God.  We are moved to act as God wants us to by the grace given to us before, during, and after we act.  St. Paul speaks of the life blood of the Mystical Body of Christ – charity.  We must first be humble before we can be charitable.  Humility removes our self-love so that we may have the ability to love purely with true charity.  There is a battle for the souls of the youth and their path in life is being formed right now.  The youthful soul enhanced by grace is more powerful than the devil, but it must be formed.  We must commit ourselves with all our hearts.

Taste And See His Sweetness

8th Sunday After Pentecost 2022
”Taste and see how sweet the Lord is”  These words are from the earliest Communion psalm, which was a favorite among the early Christians.  We celebrate the feast of the Holy Maccabees, the only Old Testaments saints celebrated in the liturgy, and their story reminds us of our need for fortitude during suffering, to stand against persecution, and to be true to our principals.  Our Rosary and spiritual reading are more powerful against the world than carrying signs of protest.
