Beg For Fidelity

11th Sunday After Pentecost 2020
This Sunday continues the renewal of the Paschal mystery with the account from St. Paul’s epistle of the several appearances of the Risen Lord before His Ascension – one to over 500 people.  The Gospel about the cure of the deaf mute is so impressive that it has been incorporated into the ceremonies surrounding one of the Paschal sacraments, namely, Baptism.  Yet, this miraculous cure pales in comparison with the Consecration at today’s Mass.

Our Most Sublime Prayer

3rd Sunday After Pentecost 2020
The Gospel shows Our Lord coming to protect us and this is perfect for Father’s Day as well.  When asked how to pray Christ gave us the Our Father.  When we receive Holy Communion we are united with Our Lord.  We are meant to be saints and must pray and strive for that always.  Not to desire sanctity is a sin.  We should do everything for our Heavenly Father and someday reach eternal happiness.

Love God With All Your Heart

5th Sunday after Easter 2020
Today is also the feast of St. Paschal Baylon, the patron saint of Eucharistic Congresses because of his extraordinary devotion to the Blessed Sacrament.  Later this week is the fest of St. Rita who is a favorite patron of our community because of her intercession in obtaining the gift of ordination for our priests.  The Epistle today from St. James stresses the importance of doing good works and stands in opposition to the heresy of being saved by faith alone.  We must love God and do so by ridding ourselves of the terrible virus of sin.  The Blessed Virgin Mary is our ally in this and we should be practicing special devotion to her this month.  The Rosary is a perfect means of doing this and the standard prayer that our vocations have in common.

Know The Risen Christ

3rd Sunday After Easter 2020
At the midway point between Easter and the Ascension we look back and ahead.  Our Lenten penances have prepared us for the revelation of the Risen Christ and the renewal of our baptismal vows.  We attest our faith in this fundamental proof of all Jesus said and did.  This month of May is dedicated to Our Lady and we should pray the Rosary daily.  Our Lord visited His Mother first after He rose again and then made a series of visits to His followers which culminated in Galilee when over 500 saw Him on the mount.  St. Paul says without the Resurrection our faith is vain and knowing the Risen Christ is essential to being a Christian.  This Mass renews all the joys of Easter and teaches us how to live in this world because in a little while we will rejoice with God in heaven.

Spiritual Communion

3rd Sunday of Lent 2020
St. Paul teaches us the importance of imitating God during Lent.  These are trying times which offer us the opportunity to face them as Our Lord would.  In the Gospel we see how the insincere twist even the holy works of Christ to their own destruction.  This account ends with Jesus praising His Blessed Mother for hearing the words of God and keeping them.  The feast of St. Joseph is later this week and he is the patron of our community.  Finally, we should practice the consoling devotion of making a spiritual communion, especially if we are unable to receive Holy Communion.

Child Of Grace

Quinquagesima Sunday 2020
The Epistle for today teaches the importance of the supernatural virtue of charity which is not to be confused with natural human kindness.  Charity not only enables us to love God and neighbor but it gives us knowledge beyond the highest attainable during our earthly lives.  Today was also the clothing day for one of our seminarians and the sermon continued on the topic of a vocation to the priesthood and religious life.  The importance of grace as a necessity for supernatural endeavors was explained.  The following qualities are essential during the future preparation for service to the Church: perseverance, trust in God, distrust of self, dedication and strength in adversity.  All of these will aided by the sacramental of the religious habit.

Lost And Saved Through A Tree

Sexagesima Sunday 2020
The Divine Office for this week recounts the story of Noah and his Ark.  This is the type for Christ and His saving Cross which undo the fall of Adam caused by his eating the forbidden fruit of the tree in Paradise.  We learn also that God’s grace is offered to us in abundance and we should not reject it. Our Faith allows us to attend Mass as if we are already in heaven.  We must live for God and not self.  Now is the time to dedicate ourselves to God during these holy days.

Love Is Life Or Death

This week is the feast of All Saints which honors God in His heroic examples of sanctifying power.  Today is the feast of Christ the King which was instituted by Pope Pius XI in 1925 to combat secularism and to re-assert God’s rights in modern society which have been denied.  Christ is King in His divinity and in His humanity through the grace of union, headship, priesthood and conquest on the Cross.  He established His Church with rights to teach, rule and sanctify.  We pray daily in the Lord’s Prayer “Thy Kingdom Come”.

Take Your Cross And Follow

7th Sunday after Pentecost 2019
The Church reminds us today to avoid sin.  If not we will be subject to punishment.  Our Lord uses a parable that everyone can understand.  He equates false religious leaders to the tree that brings forth bad fruit and that we can judge by those fruits.  God is always looking after us by His Divine Providence and nothing is left to chance.  He sees every detail of our lives and allows all for our ultimate goal of happiness with Him in heaven.

Protector Of Holy Church

Feast Of St. Joseph 2019
The Gospel for this feast is taken from St. Matthew about the so-called doubt of St. Joseph.  These few verses contain a wealth of doctrinal information about his fatherly love of the Son of God, his pure love of his wife, the Blessed Virgin Mary, and the unique holiness of St. Joseph.  Because of these prerogatives he is a wonderful intercessor for everyone and every need as attested by countless saints.  The litany of his praises is deservingly offered to him on his feast in gratitude for all he does for souls.
