Charity Lifts To Heaven

4th Sunday After Epiphany 2022
This week we will bless throats in honor of St. Blaise.  The Holy Ghost through St. Paul writes that we should owe no man anything except to love one another.  This endorses living debt free, as much as possible, but it does not include being free of charity which all must practice.  Charity is the greatest of all the virtues, including the other theological ones.  Without charity we are lost. It is the only thing that can make us happy here and in heaven.  The second part of today’s Mass is the reminder that Christ is in complete control of everything and that we must never lose trust in Him.  Finally, we learn about the upcoming feast of the Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Presentation of Our Lord in the Temple.

God Will Provide

Feast Of The Holy Family 2022
This first Sunday after the Epiphany begins the short season of manifesting the divinity of God made Man.  The Gospel contains the first words of the Word made Flesh and clearly reveal He is completely aware of His identity and mission.  The Holy Family is the model for all of us who belong to families and Pope Leo teaches in his encyclical about the domestic life of Jesus, Mary and Joseph and how our families should imitate them.  This is also the 45th anniversary of the beginning of our religious community and a time for thanksgiving.  It is a reminder that one must follow principles no matter the sacrifice entailed and maintain loyalty.  God, who permits evil so to draw good from it, will do the rest.

Marriage of the Incarnation

The Holy Name Of Jesus 2022
This day can also be called the feast of God’s friendship with man.  It began to be celebrated in the fifth century but its origins reach back to the Old Testament when God first gave His Name of “Yahweh” which means “I am, Who Am” to Moses.  The reverence towards this Name was such that it could only be spoken once a year by the high priest in the Holy of Holies.  Once God became man He was given the Name of Jesus meaning Savior.  Now we are encouraged to say God’s Name often and if done repeatedly on our deathbed St. Francis de Sales said we will have a peaceful death.

Ever Virgin

Sermon From The
Octave of Nativity 2022
This holyday of obligation renews all the joy and happiness of Christmas, recalls the Circumcision which took place on this day and honors the Blessed Mother.  St. Luke in his account of the Annunciation is precise in his language as he records Our Lady’s words that she does not know man, meaning her husband.  This along with Tradition informs us that the Mother of God and St. Joseph were virginal and would remain so.  Knowing this we understand the miraculous nature of the birth of Christ which confirms that His Mother is a virgin before, during and afterwards.  Circumcision was a type of our sacrament of Baptism.  Today begins the new year with confidence in God that He does not abandon His own during whatever awaits us in the days ahead.

Hearts May Be Revealed

Sunday After Christmas 2021
St. Paul in the Epistle explains one of the effects of God with us, namely that we in turn become sons of God and can cry out Abba, Father.  We renew our belief in the Incarnation where the Second Person of the Trinity, while retaining His divine nature assumed a human nature.  The Gospel account is taken from the Presentation in the temple where Simeon prophesied that the Christ Child would be a sign of contradiction and that His Mother’s soul would be pierced so that many hearts would be revealed.  The saints after Christmas are examples for us of the generous response to the Holy Babe of Bethlehem.

Attributes Of God

19th Sunday After Pentecost 2021
Today is also the feast of the “greatest saint of modern times”, St. Therese.  The Gospel for this Mass demonstrates the mercy and justice of God in the parable of the wedding feast.  Those were punished for mistreating the messengers thus fulfilling God’s justice.  God’s mercy was shown to those who were invited afterwards.  The mercy and justice of God are understood as attributes of God which can only be spoken of in that way by analogy.

You Know That I Love You

Visitation Of The Blessed Virgin Mary 2021
The Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary to her cousin, St. Elizabeth, three days after the Annunciation, resulted in the sanctification of St. John the Baptist in the womb of his mother.  This was made known by the leaping for joy that St. Elizabeth felt in her womb.  Pope Pius IX raised this feast to a higher rank because the city of Rome was freed from the Freemasons on this day.  Today is also the feast of Saints Processus and Martinian who were the last jailers of Saints Peter and Paul.  The Modernists hate this feast because it signals the final victory of the Church over the forces of evil.  This week was the feast of Saints Peter and Paul also and Our Lord had St. Peter repair for his three denials by three protestations of love.  St. Peter proved his love by the shedding of his own blood which is necessary for any true sacrifice.  An expanded view of the Church inspired by symbols found in the Bible inspires all to fidelity and love of Christ.

Do Your Job

Feast Of St. John the Baptist 2021
No man born is greater than today’s saint whose birthday we celebrate.  This along with other details of St. John’s life parallels those in the life of Christ.  Six months before the Annunciation St. Gabriel appeared to St. Zachary and revealed the birth of a son who would be great.  Miraculous events followed which culminated in the birth of the Precursor whose holiness was so manifest that many had to be convinced that St. John’s role was to only prepare for the Truly Holy One Who would follow him.  St. John was approachable to all and taught them that the way to heaven was to fulfill your daily duties.  This was the message of Our Lady of Fatima also and the hallmark of all the saints – fidelity to duty.

Queen of Angels And Men

Conference On First Friday, May 2021 – Feast Of St. Stanislaus
St. Stanislaus is the patron saint of Poland and an example of a bishop who gives his life to protect his flock.  The month of May is dedicated to Our Lady’s queenship and ends with Her feast day.  Pope Pius XII instituted the feast with an encyclical that sounds prophetic in its words: “especially in troubled times the world has turned to the Blessed Virgin Mary as Queen”. This is for several reasons beginning with Her divine maternity which started at the Annunciation.  By Her “fiat” God became man and thereby showed that all graces would come from Him but through Her. The Blessed Mother is Queen by being the highest of any creature in charity and all the other virtues.  She also has the title by earning it with Our Lord at Calvary as His cooperator in redemption.  We must proclaim Her sovereignty and draw close to Her.

Favored By God

Feast Of The Annunciation 2021
This feast celebrates the moment when salvation began with the acceptance by the Blessed Virgin Mary of her role as Mother of God and Co-Redemptrix of the human race.  God became Man today and the Incarnation is the chief teaching of the Catholic Church about Jesus Christ.  This also marks the anniversary of Our Lord’s ordination as a priest.  All this elevates the Immaculate Virgin to the threshold of divinity by her proximity to the hypostatic union which took place in her womb.  This can be considered her greatest feast.  It was a privilege for some of us to have visited the Holy House of Loretto because this is the place where it started.  We should not be rude in prayer by letting ourselves be distracted from speaking with God.
