God Is Light

Transfiguration 2023
(10th Sunday after Pentecost)
Pride is placing ourselves before God and neighbor.  We must remember that we would be as evil as our worst enemies if not for God’s grace.  We must acknowledge our weakness.  We ourselves are pharisees because of the hypocrisy of our sinful lives.  The Transfiguration can be summarized in the truth that God is Light and He destroys the darkness.  When we receive spiritual gifts, just as the Apostles did, we should thank God without broadcasting our gifts to the world and exposing our souls to pride.

The Rosary & The Transfiguration

1st Friday Conference August 2023
Feast of St. DominicSt. Dominic worked to combat the Albigensian heresy.  Despite his great ability in preaching, he had little success until he was instructed by the Blessed Mother to use the Rosary.  The power of this spiritual weapon is seen even to this day.

The three Synoptic Gospels speak of the miracle of the Transfiguration and even St. John refers to it when he says that we have seen the glory of the Lord.  Through this miracle, Christ showed Himself as He really is, by allowing His divinity to be shown through His human nature.

Appreciate What We Have

Second Sunday In Lent 2022
Today we reviewed the first of the six Commandments of the Church and how to observe it regarding the Holy Mass and the Sunday obligation.  These treasures from heaven have been given to us and we need to be thankful to God for them.  Today’s Epistle is addressed to the early church which St. Paul evangelized.  He warns these Christians of the dangers to their morals in the world around them.  We can learn from this about the situations we face in our own surroundings.  Finally, we too are strengthened with the apostles by the Gospel account of the Transfiguration.  Christ touches us also with His hand through reception of Him at Holy Communion.

The Transfiguring Theophany

Feast Of The Transfiguration 2021
The treasures of the basilica of St. Mary Major are described because of the feast of Our Lady of the Snow.  Also, St. Sixtus and his companions suffered martyrdom today and the martyrdom of St. Lawrence was prophesied.  Today’s feast of the Transfiguration recalls that moment in Our Lord’s life when He prepared Saints Peter, James and John for what was ahead concerning His Passion and Death by fortifying them with a glimpse of His divinity.  The importance of this  event is brought home to us by its being recorded in all the Gospels and St. Peter mentions it in his epistle as well.  The Blessed Trinity manifested Itself by the Father’s Voice commanding obedience to His Son Whose humanity became as bright as the sun and by the Cloud which showed the Holy Ghost.  The Transfiguration was a chance for Our Lord to rest and to strengthen the Apostles.  This feast also commemorates the miraculous victory in 1456 over the infidels attacking Europe.

Consolation of the Transfiguration

2nd Sunday In Lent 2021
Our Lord took the three apostles who would soon be tested during His agony in the garden and showed them a glimpse of His divinity during the theophany on Mt. Tabor so they would be strengthened by the remembrance of it at that crucial time.  We too are consoled by this sight as we struggle through Lent with our eyes always fixed on the goal which is our glorification in the end with our Risen Savior.

Learn As A Catechumen In Lent

2nd Sunday of Lent 2020
Lent is a long retreat for catechumens to prepare for Baptism and for penitents to prepare for Communion. We follow in their footsteps as we learn from each of the Lenten Masses as seen, for example, in this week’s story of Esau and Jacob.  Today’s Epistle stresses God’s holy will that we become saints while the Transfiguration Gospel reaffirms Our Lord’s divinity, especially in preparation for His suffering ahead which will test our faith as it did the apostles.

Transfiguration Conference

Feast Of The Transfiguration 2019
In this conference we learn that transfiguration is not uncommon in the lives of the saints.  The Collect for the Mass today is key to unlocking this feast day.  It says that the mystery or sacrament of the Faith is confirmed through this theophany.  The outward sign instituted by Christ to give grace is Our Lord Himself and the Father commands us to listen to Him.  Moses and Elias confirm this while speaking to Jesus about His upcoming Death.  This event marked Christ’s directing of His Life now to the Cross.  He relaxed in prayer and allowed His divinity to manifest through His humanity.  This strengthened Him and His apostles for what lay ahead.  The Transfiguration is our bulwark against all our trials today.

Christ’s Love Is Causative

Conference On The 4th Sunday After Easter 2019
In this talk after Mass we learn about the qualities of glorified bodies.  Our Lord exhibited these after rising from the dead and they are: subtlety, agility, clarity, impassibility and immortality.  We will also possess them one day in heaven with Christ if we imitate His life and death.  When Jesus shows us His Cross in the end and says that this is how much He loved us then we will answer that we loved Him enough to carry our own crosses as well with His help.

Be Hopeful

2nd Sunday in Lent
St. Paul is preaching to people of his time who were being dragged down by the pagans, mostly by sins of impurity.  In visions, the saints have seen children and young adults in Hell for sins of impurity so we must combat this.  The Transfiguration is when Christ allowed His divinity to shine forth through His humanity.  This was to strengthen the apostles for the trials ahead.  We take the same encouragement for the rest of Lent.

Confession, Contrition, Satisfaction

2nd Sunday in Lent 2018
During Lent it is important to stir up sorrow for our sins and to receive the Sacrament of Penance.  The older form for the penitent to use in the confessional expressed aspects of this beautiful sacrament that we should appreciate.  If received well,  this sacrament can even make us holier than just before we sinned, for example we have St. Peter.  The Gospel for this Sunday is about the Transfiguration and is meant to encourage us, as it did the Apostles, for the struggles we must face in the days ahead.
