The Sword Of Salvation

21st Sunday after Pentecost 2023
The martyrology, used in the Divine Office, is a great treasure of the Church.  We belong to the Catholic Church, which alone possesses the mark of holiness.  Not only was the Founder holy, being God Himself, but its truths and sacraments are holy and lead men to sanctity.  We are not fighting against flesh and blood but against spiritual enemies.  The sacraments are the greatest help against temptations.  We must pray, remain occupied, and when we are tempted, we must respond promptly.  The ingratitude we see in the Gospel is rampant in our own age.

We Are Offered With Christ

20th Sunday after Pentecost 2023
The three principal parts of the Mass are the Offertory, the Consecration, and the Communion of the Priest.  If we miss one of these parts, we have not assisted at Mass.  We are united to the sacrifice and are offered up with Christ.  The Mass is the purpose of creation, because it is the essence of religion and the greatest means of offering honor to God.  We are told to redeem the time we have lost.  We have the grace to make a conversion at any moment.  We need to pray fervently, because our salvation depends on it.

He Bought The World

Precious Blood 2023
This feast is the liturgical completion of Good Friday, the day when the Precious Blood was poured out for our salvation.  In these days when our holy Faith is in danger and under attack, we recall the great heritage of martyrs who shed their blood in imitation of Christ.  At the true Mass we have no doubt what takes place at the Consecration.  Christ’s death continues to the end of time and we are invited to be part of it.  If not for the Precious Blood no sins would be forgiven.

The Davids Of The Future

4th Sunday after Pentecost 2023
This is a Mass of great courage and hope.  We know that even when the enemies are encamped around us, they will weaken and fall.  God allows us to see our weakness so that we may turn to Him in prayer.  This is the Mass which tells us not to be afraid.  The evil powers will continue to attack and their propaganda is stronger than ever but if we walk with God, they cannot stop us. We must be faithful to the sacraments and attached to the teachings of Christ.

Bringing Heaven To Earth

Corpus Christi 2023
This feast was requested by God Himself so that the Blessed Sacrament might be honored not only as a sacrifice but also as the greatest of sacraments.  It is the reason for the other sacraments, It is the reason for the priesthood, and It is the cause of unity in the Mystical Body of Christ.  This feast is perfectly placed after the feast of the Blessed Trinity because it is the greatest means of achieving our last end in possession of the Blessed Trinity.  God placed in our hearts a desire to taste the Infinite, and in the Holy Eucharist we fulfill that desire.

In Se Propter Deum

Sunday After Ascension 2023
First Communion Sunday – We hear about the supremacy of the virtue of charity in today’s Epistle.  It is an infused virtue which allows us to love God as He loves Himself. Many people are egocentric, and the only way they view their neighbor is by his usefulness.  Catholics know that our neighbors are either children of God or are called to be so.   Many people only look at God for what He might give them.  We may only ask for His help, but God asks for our hearts.  We love our neighbor in se propter Deum – in himself for God’s sake.

One Redeemer, One Priesthood

Low Sunday 2023
50th Priestly Anniversary of Fr. Ward
We are here first to love and honor God, because this day is dedicated to thanking Him.  We thank God for sending us a holy priest, for the Church, and for her truth.  What better day to speak about the priesthood than the day on which we were given the sacrament of Penance.  The words of Our Lord, “you shall be holy because I am holy,” were said to everyone, but first of all to His priests.  It was Christ who said, “To you it is given to know the mysteries of God.”  Priests are privileged to share in the royal lineage as Christ Himself.

Children of The Hebrews

Palm Sunday 2023
We are a liturgical people, and as we pray so we believe.  Christ bridged the gap between God and man, and He gives us the vehicle through which we may bridge that gap back to Him, in the sacraments and sacramentals of the Church.  Sacramentals are given by Christ through the Church, and the grace we receive is dependent upon our fervor.  The palm gives us the victory; it gives us the strength to persevere towards Heaven.  We should fight during these days to be as close to Our Lord as possible.

The Fight for Salvation

Laetare Sunday 2023
As we pass the middle of Lent, we are given this Sunday a spirit of joy.  The Holy Catholic Church is the new Jerusalem, and we, as the Church Militant, are called to fight for our salvation with the use of prayer and the sacraments.  There are no exceptions when it comes to accepting God’s Word and the articles of Faith.  In the miracle of this Gospel account, we see the figure of the Eucharist and Baptism in the multiplication of the loaves and fishes.

The Food of Christian Souls

The Feast of Corpus Christi 2015
There have been innumerable Eucharistic miracles throughout the history of the Church.  In this greatest of all the sacraments, Our Lord is contained, offered, and received.  The priest speaks in the person of Christ when he says, “This is My Body.”  After transubstantiation takes place, the priest holds in his hand the Author of Creation.  We should look at the Host at the elevation and adore our God.  Christ desired to come in the manner of food because He wished to be united with us in such a way that it is as if we are essentially one.  Although Christ is alive, He comes to us in the state of death.  Sacramentally there is renewed Christ’s sacrifice in the Holy Eucharist, so our sufferings may be identified with His.
