What Miracles Teach

Sermon From The
11th Sunday after Pentecost 2014
✟Father Violette
Our Lord shows great mercy to us because He knows man’s nature so well.  God has given us great gifts of grace but because they remain invisible to us, He performed miracles to show what is taking place in souls.  God’s grace returns life to our souls just as Christ raised Lazarus from the dead.  When we have the Gospel preached to us, we must not twist it to suit our opinions.  We can only be perfect as our heavenly Father when we, as sons of God, cooperate with God’s Grace.

Heart Speaks To Heart

Sermon From Feast Of The
Assumption 2014
The best material for prayer is the word of God found in Sacred Scripture and we are given ample aid for prayer in the texts of this Mass.  Judith is the perfect type of the Virgin Mary because it is the Mother of God who truly “cut off the head of the enemy.”  She has conquered the devil and sin and was raised above the rest of men from the moment of her Immaculate Conception as a preparation for the Incarnation.  Elizabeth was the first to recognize this young girl as the Mother of God.  The Assumption is the product of divine power, because it was her Divine Son Who brought His Mother to Heaven.

The Victory of Our Faith

Sermon From
Low Sunday 2014
Our Lord has truly risen, and we are here to celebrate that event.  “This is the victory that overcomes the world – our faith.”  This is the victory that leads us to Heaven.  The Blessed Mother was the first person that Our Lord visited after His Resurrection.  We know this not because the Bible mentions it directly but because it tells us by omission.  She was not among the women visiting the tomb, because she already knew her Son had risen. We are small and insignificant, but because of the faith we will be victorious.

You Will Wake in Heaven

Sermon From The
Easter Vigil 2014
There are many reasons for the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, but one of the most important was that He might release to us all the benefits He won on the Cross.  This is why, even in His glorified Body, He keeps the wounds of His Passion.  Heaven is available to all and we were created to enjoy it.  As St. Augustine says, “You made us for Yourself.”  Although the Vigil begins in complete darkness, we are soon shown the Light of Christ which guides us on our way.  By His grace our lives are touched, and we are brought to our final reward.

Let Perpetual Light Shine Upon Him

Funeral Mass, March 2014
Death hurts us all, but the Church gives us words of comfort in the face of death when she reminds us that on the last day all will rise.  The coffin of the deceased is surrounded by candles at the Requiem Mass, representing Christ, the Light of the World.  Even those who have left the true Church have admitted the great comfort the Church offers us in our last moments.  In praying for final perseverance, we are asking for all the help necessary to fight the final attempts of the devil to steal our souls from God.  The deceased soul’s work is over, but ours is not.  We must continually pray for the souls in purgatory and pray for our own salvation.

Love Never Fails

Sermon From
All Souls Day 2013
This beautiful Mass for the Holy Souls in Purgatory has its own sequence entitled “Dies Irae” which means the Day of Wrath.  It is a warning to the living of the judgments of God but ends with hope of happiness in heaven.  Today is proof that the debt for our forgiven sins can be removed and that Divine Love has in fact created Purgatory for that purpose.  Obstacles still persist in the soul after death and impede our entrance into glory.  These can and will be removed by a purification that severs souls from anything that still holds them from ascending.  What do non-Catholics do in the face of death?  Our consoling doctrine can teach them about God’s merciful love.

The King and His Saints

Sermon From
The Feast Of Christ the King 2013
On this feast of Christ the King we recall Quas Primas, the encyclical letter of Pope Pius XI, which explains this teaching on Our Lord’s social kingdom and the reasons for instituting this feast.  Later this week we have the holyday of obligation known as All Saints day and the following day we have All Souls day which reminds us of the holy souls in Purgatory who are being purified before entering heaven.  Taken together we have the Church Militant, Church Triumphant and Church Suffering being presented to us as the perfect union of the Mystical Body of Christ.  The fact that only Truth has rights produces its wonderful consequences in salvation history where the desire for sanctity and living for God are beautifully seen and realized under the peaceful and loving reign of Jesus Christ.

Prepare For The Second Coming

Sermon From
9th Sunday After Pentecost 2013
During the announcements today we learn what things are necessary for the upcoming Confirmations.  This Mass is a warning so we are ready when Our Lord returns for the Final Judgment.  Jerusalem and people in general live lives of distraction which deflects their attention from the important things in life and this renders them oblivious to Christ on the day of His visitation.  If we heed the words of the Epistle and Gospel we will have a clear conscience and receive Jesus as we should.

The Hour Has Come

Ascension Thursday 2013
We believe that the Second Person of the Blessed Trinity, by His own power, ascended into Heaven forty days after His resurrection from the dead.  It is because of this belief that we gather today.  The angels assure us that Christ will return from the East, just as He was seen going up.  On this day Our Lord led all those saints and patriarchs of the Old Testament, who waited for so long in captivity, into their glorious abode.  The Paschal Candle, which represents the physical presence of Christ, is extinguished after the Gospel and is now taken away.  Just as He prayed for His followers on the day He ascended, He also prays that the love of the Holy Trinity may remain always within our souls.

Our Struggle for an Everlasting Crown

4th Sunday after Easter 2013
The prayers composed by the Church express the intentions for which God wishes us to pray.  In today’s Collect we pray that our hearts may remain forever set on that place where true joys reside.  The angels and saints in Heaven, because of their complete conformity to God’s Will, never resist His desires.  We pray that mankind may submit itself to God in the same way on Earth.  We have the potential, when in the state of grace, to allow God to operate through us.  It is only because of the obstacles we place in God’s way that we do not see that operation in our lives.  Holy Scripture warns us about the heavy consequences of the rejection of Christ by the worldly.  Temptations are a normal struggle for all, but the struggle is nothing in comparison to the reward in store for those who remain faithful.
