Running To Our Lord

Feast of St. Thérèse of the Child Jesus 2023
Investiture of Sister Rose Michael
When the priest gives the habit of Mount Carmel, it is Christ Himself giving the habit and all the graces attached to it.  God wishes that a person embrace religion willingly, without any external pressure.  In poverty we place all our trust in divine assistance.  In chastity we experience the true meaning of love, offering body and soul to our Divine Savior.  In holy obedience we follow God’s Will through our superiors.  God is calling us to live a life joined to the Passion.  We will be sanctified if we maintain great desires in our holy vocation.

Do Not Weep

15th Sunday after Pentecost 2023
No other religion has produced saints as the Catholic Church has.  The greatest mark of the Church is her holiness.  Discretion is one of the best ways to practice charity.  It allows us to know when to offer correction and when to simply let our example teach our neighbor.  Charity is the hallmark of a Catholic.  As much as we unwittingly crucify each other we are still bonded together by charity, and nothing stands in the way of charity for a true Catholic.  Our Lord feels the burdens of His people.

Don’t Conform To The World

12th Sunday after Pentecost 2023
In the Gospel for today, we see Christ represented as the Good Samaritan – the one Who was rejected by the world.  He is the one Who saves the sinner who has been wounded by the devil.  We are that sinner and we must cry out for salvation.  We are bombarded by propaganda, and for the most part we are unaware.  The world does not want us to be like the Good Samaritan who stands out from the crowd.  The world wants us to conform.  We follow Christ in our love for God and neighbor.

The Simplicity Of Love

6th Sunday After Pentecost 2023
No matter what our situation might be, we always have enough grace to avoid sin.  There is never an excuse for sin.  If we do not recognize our absolute dependence on God, we will fall.  God created us out of love and all He wants is our love in return.  Just like the saints we are called to love God simply and pray to God simply.  If we follow the simple steps of mental prayer and do this daily there is no doubt about our salvation.

The Necessary Struggle

5th Sunday After Pentecost 2023
We will always have both friends and enemies in this life.  Even the great North American Martyrs, who gave their lives to win converts to Christ, experienced both successes and failures.  Our Lord allows our enemies to tempt us in our continual battle all for a greater good.  Let us be patient and meek as the saints and not allow ourselves to become lax in the spiritual life.  We must remain ever watchful and never cease uprooting our vices.  Continual prayer will bring us to Heaven.

The Rosary Of Peace

18th Sunday After Pentecost 2022
“Pray the Rosary for peace…”  This was the instruction of the Blessed Mother at Fatima.  We were given this great sacramental for our protection, so that we might pray with the Holy Mother of God and through her, and she might supply what is lacking in our prayers.  In reciting the Rosary, the whole man is occupied – his body, his imagination, his intellect.  We need not focus on the individual details of each mystery, but rather let the mysteries envelop us, removing all earthly ambitions and fears, and granting us a taste of the love of God.

United Against Our Enemy

5th Sunday After Pentecost 2022
We are sensitive to offenses against us, but what are we like to our neighbor?  Our love for God can be measured by our fraternity.  Catholics must be more united than ever before.  We must stand unified against the onslaught of vices and perversions of all kinds that the world sends to us.  This is especially necessary in the education of our youth.  Do not think for a moment that the fight is over and we are victorious, because our true battle is not merely against flesh and blood.

God Wants Our Whole Heart

Sunday After The Ascension 2022
We, as Catholics, must not lead a double life.  God desires our whole heart.  When we are told that we must “watch in prayer,” this means that we must be on guard against both the enemy and occasions of sin.  What a wonderful reward we are offered for the practice of charity by Christ’s words, “charity covers a multitude of sins.”  An act as simple as feeding our family is a corporal work of mercy.  With the practice of fortitude, we can remain steadfast in the Faith, overcome the despondency the devil attempts to create in us, and continually grow in devotion.

Ite Ad Joseph

Sermon On The
Feast of St. Joseph 2022
Devotion to St. Joseph can be seen in the testimony of St. Teresa, Mary of Agreda and the prophetic words of Isidore of Isolanus.  It flows from his vocation as spouse of the Mother of God which was an essential component of the Incarnation and guarding of Our Lady and the Son of God.  St. Joseph had purity which enabled him to fulfill this role, not only towards the Blessed Virgin but as a virginal father to Christ in imitation of God the Father.  St. Joseph was a pious man who led the Holy Family in their liturgical observances and is the first traditional Catholic.  He often was faced with challenges that tested his virtue, but he relied on God for assistance which always came.  Therefore St. Joseph is patron of all people and walks of life so we can go to him with confidence.

Lent Is A Season Of Joy

Ash Wednesday 2022
Septuagesima season has prepared us for this time of removing sin from our lives.  This should comfort us as we begin this time of penance.  When examining our conscience we should not look at self but at Our Lord crucified to realize the effects of our evil on Him.  Lent is the bond of unity in the Church when we all struggle together. By  Penance we understand different things.  It is the sacrament, a moral virtue and the acts flowing from it.  Ashes are given today because they are one of the three major sacramentals in the Church and remind us powerfully of death which is the consequence of Adam’s sin.  Finally, practical suggestions are given to help us choose and practice spiritual exercises which will make Lent truly beneficial for us.
