2nd Sunday in Lent St. Paul is preaching to people of his time who were being dragged down by the pagans, mostly by sins of impurity. In visions, the saints have seen children and young adults in Hell for sins of impurity so we must combat this. The Transfiguration is when Christ allowed His divinity to shine forth through His humanity. This was to strengthen the apostles for the trials ahead. We take the same encouragement for the rest of Lent. #20190317K
3rd Sunday after Epiphany 2019 The Introit and some of the Mass propers for the Third Sunday after the Epiphany will be repeated on the next two Sundays. They renew the joy of the Incarnation and show forth the divinity of Our Lord. These are reminders of the essential quality of the liturgy in sanctifying our lives.  The Gospel in particular manifests Christ’s divine power, first to the Jews in the person of the leper and then to the Gentiles in the person of the centurion’s servant. St. Paul’s epistle stresses charity as the hallmark of Christians. #20190127M
18th Sunday after Pentecost 2018 St. Paul’s Epistle for the Eighteenth Sunday after Pentecost tells us the importance of the grace of God which the Holy Ghost gives us many times each day. We should never neglect these daily opportunities and we should use them to fight off the devil and his temptations. We should not let sin paralyze us. The Gospel is a beautiful account which shows the authentic mercy of God. We should ask our angels to help us pray and repent. #20180923K
16th Sunday after Pentecost 2018 Conference The Collect of the Mass for the Sixteenth Sunday after Pentecost is a concise and direct statement about another beautiful aspect of the doctrine on grace. The realization of this teaching will make us better appreciate how much we depend on God for the littlest supernatural act we perform – no matter how easy and even connatural it seems to us. St. Paul’s Epistle shows us the principle that is God, namely, that Goodness is self-diffusive and more so the closer we are to It. #20180909
15th Sunday after Pentecost 2018 The Fifteenth Sunday after Pentecost is a quintessential Mass for the season. From the hope expressed in the Introit to the Communion verse about our Life in the Eucharist we are assured of God’s mercy on the path to Heaven. This year the Sunday falls before Labor Day and it is good to remember the holiday’s Catholic roots in medieval Guilds and what the modern popes have written about this important component of society.
This Mass for the 13th Sunday after Pentecost begins with a prayer to God that He hear us and this presumes that we are humble. To reach Heaven requires our prayer and spiritual reading lest we become the playthings of the devil. God showers His graces and gifts on us so we can reach happiness with Him at the end of our lives. He also gives these so we can share them with others on their road to Heaven, too.
11th Sunday after Pentecost 2018 The feasts for this week give cause for us to thank God and take strength in upholding the faith. This Mass for the Eleventh Sunday after Pentecost recalls Our Lord’s Resurrection and the Easter sacraments of Baptism and Holy Eucharist. St. Paul lists all the witnesses to Christ’s Risen Body and the Gospel relates the story of the healing of the deaf and dumb man. The exact gestures and words of Jesus are repeated during the ceremonies for Baptism. All this leads to union with Our Lord in Holy Communion.
Corpus Christi 2018 In a certain sense, this day is the culmination of the liturgical year. Our Lord had a mission in coming to Earth, and we accompany Him in that mission throughout the year. We suffer with Our Lord in His Passion, we rise with Him on Easter, and we are lifted to Heaven at the Ascension. As we progress on this journey, we are in great need of sustenance, and we find this food for our souls in the Holy Eucharist. In imitation of Our Lord and His Apostles the bread and wine are consecrated and transformed into the Body and Blood of Christ. The Precious Blood of our Redeemer was separated from His Body on the cross, and we relive that moment at the double consecration of the Holy Mass. St. Juliana of Liège was inspired to begin the devotion of Corpus Christi, and, because of her influence, the feast of Corpus Christi was established by Pope Urban IV in 1264. Let us proclaim before the whole world that we believe in the true presence of Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament of the Altar. #20180531ARK
Laetare Sunday 2018 At the midpoint of Lent we recall the greatest gift God has given after the Redemptive Incarnation – the Holy Eucharist. The Gospel tells how Our Lord prepared the people for this Sacrament by the miracle of the loaves and fishes. By reception of the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ we are given the foretaste of heaven and so every Holy Communion is a preparation for our entrance there.
3rd Sunday in Lent 2018 We learn in the Mass texts not to let evil enter our thoughts, words or deeds. This is so we live every moment purely and for God. Then we are prepared for the last moment when we receive the grace of perseverance efficaciously. As the good works of Jesus were criticized in the Gospel, so we must also overcome discouragement during our Lenten practices. We must remember the saints who were like us sinners but who trusted in God and were victorious.
