Restore The Holy Eucharist

Holy Thursday 2020
We celebrate the anniversaries of the institution of the sacrifice of the Holy Mass and the sacraments of the Holy Eucharist and Holy Orders today.  The Mass is the central act and purpose for the Church which Christ commanded at the Last Supper to be offered and from it flows Our Lord’s Real Presence among us in the Blessed Sacrament.  He is our Food and the reason for the joy and freedom we experience even at the worst of times.  The Priesthood was established to accomplish this until the end of time.  St. John Vianney said that love of the Mass and the priesthood are signs of predestination.  Priests must cherish these things most of all.  St. Paul in the Epistle warns that our infirmities are caused because of the neglect of the Holy Eucharist.  These mysterious days in which we are living have as their root cause the mistreatment of Our Lord in the most sacred sacrament of the altar.

Patron Of All

Feast Of Saint Joseph 2020
St. Joseph is described as a just man in the Gospel which means he was deeply religious.  His virtues prepared him for his vocation to be the spouse of the Blessed Mother and foster father of the Son of God.  His fears after the Annunciation were about his own worthiness to fulfill his role in so Divine a mission.  The angel reassured St. Joseph and he never wavered in his loving fidelity to duty.  Unlike the Apostles, his job was to protect and to conceal the Savior until His hour had come.  His virginal paternity is a perfect reflection of that of God the Father.  St. Joseph fulfilled his roles as saint, husband, father and worker so that he truly is the patron of all.

How Can Sin Make Us Better?

3rd Sunday after Epiphany 2020
Today is a continuation of the beautiful time after the Epiphany when the God-Man is shown to us for our adoration and love.  The Redemptive Incarnation is with the Trinity as the most important truth about God Who rules the cosmos, even as an Infant.  The Epistle warns us not to be puffed up with pride but to be as the centurion in the Gospel who had great faith and humility.  Our faults and sins should humble us and thereby make us better.

Report Card Sunday

Last Sunday after Pentecost 2019
As we end the liturgical year we can make an examination of conscience and grade our spiritual life in light of God’s blessings to us these past twelve months.  Have we been faithful to our Baptismal promises as St. Paul reminds us in the Epistle by renouncing Satan and all his works and pomps?  Are we prepared for the judgment awaiting each of us as Our Lord warns in the Gospel?  Have we remembered the Holy Souls in Purgatory during this month dedicated to them?  The Church gives us hope in the Mass texts which promise God’s thoughts of peace and not of affliction.

Love Is Life Or Death

This week is the feast of All Saints which honors God in His heroic examples of sanctifying power.  Today is the feast of Christ the King which was instituted by Pope Pius XI in 1925 to combat secularism and to re-assert God’s rights in modern society which have been denied.  Christ is King in His divinity and in His humanity through the grace of union, headship, priesthood and conquest on the Cross.  He established His Church with rights to teach, rule and sanctify.  We pray daily in the Lord’s Prayer “Thy Kingdom Come”.

His Kingdom Of Love

Feast Of Christ The King 2018
After a preview of All Saints and All Souls Days, the sermon proper for the feast of Christ the King begins after the Epistle and Gospel.  Pope Pius XI established the feast in 1925 to counter the secularism that permeates our society.  After an examination of the causes leading up to our modern errors we are given the teaching on the social kingdom of Christ which frees us from the shackles of sin.  Our Lord has given us a kingdom of peace, unity, holiness and above all love.  We must love in return and not despise His love.

We Are The Coin Of Tribute

22nd Sunday after Pentecost 2018
In the Epistle for the Twenty-second Sunday after Pentecost St. Paul gives us consoling words from his place of imprisonment.  God will see the good work He has begun in us reach its perfection. On our part we need to pray for final perseverance.  In the Gospel Christ is not making a political statement as much as one of prioritizing our concerns – starting with God in the first place.  This hierarchy of values will guide us in our daily lives and especially assist us when voting.

We Die The Way We Live

3rd Sunday in Lent 2018
We learn in the Mass texts not to let evil enter our thoughts, words or deeds.  This is so we live every moment purely and for God.  Then we are prepared for the last moment when we receive the grace of perseverance efficaciously.  As the good works of Jesus were criticized in the Gospel, so we must also overcome discouragement during our Lenten practices.  We must remember the saints who were like us sinners but who trusted in God and were victorious.

The Gift Of Lent

First Sunday in Lent 2018
Grace is present at every moment for us but especially during Lent.  We, as Christians, must not be a scandal to those in the world.  Lent is our retreat and it is dangerous to our spiritual life not to realize this.  The virtue of chastity cannot be practiced without constant help from grace.  We need the sacraments, prayer and spiritual reading to be holy.  Christ was tempted in three ways which are conquered by our penances of fasting, prayer and almsgiving.  Remembering the four last things will help save us.

Watch And Be Ready

Last Sunday after Pentecost 2017

As we conclude the liturgical year, we should still be praying for the Holy Souls in Purgatory while examining our lives to test whether or not we have grown in love of God and neighbor.  Christ in today’s Gospel prophesied the destruction of Jerusalem and the end of the world.  He warns us to be ready always and to avoid any false Christs and false prophets who are people and organizations that are not Catholic.
