Understanding Is The Gift Of Easter

Easter Sunday Morning 2020
English speaking Catholics call this “Easter” Sunday because it is another example of the power of the Church and the liturgy to Christianize even evil pagan elements. The glory of the risen Savior will be ours one day but many saints were transfigured even in this life.  We are “eighth day Christians” because God rested on the seventh day of creation as Christ rested in the sepulchre and rose on Sunday marking a new week on the eighth day.  The octave day is a sign of eternal life.  The calculation of Easter each year was carefully studied and was miraculously made known.  As believers were rewarded by seeing Our Lord glorious and immortal so we today can see God through Faith enlightened by the gift of understanding.

Faith And Gratitude At Easter

Easter Vigil & Midnight Mass 2020
These are the last moments of Lent and culminate in the greatest vigil of the liturgical year.  This ceremony has many elements which we review before starting so we worship with the utmost awareness and devotion.  We have the Paschal fire and candle, the Praeconium, the lessons, the blessing of water and all leading to the Resurrection of Our Lord at the Midnight Mass and the reception of Him in the Holy Eucharist.  Our reaction should be an increase of Faith and a deeper sense of gratitude.  We do not want to abandon our penitential and prayerful spirit of the last forty days but incorporate this into our interior life during the Paschal season.

She Is In Bitter Grief

Good Friday 2020
The Church mourns the death of God in an even more dramatic way this year.  The Solemn Liturgical Action expresses this loss through the Passion of St. John and the two prophecies.  Then we join with Christ on the Cross for His universal prayers for all.  We venerate our means of salvation by reverencing the Holy Cross and finally we join with our Savior in Holy Communion.  All of this inspires us to return the Divine Love of the Sacred Heart which shed every drop of the Precious Blood for us and to convert from sin which exacted such cruelty upon our innocent Lord.

Bride, Spouse and Victim

Laetare Sunday 2020 – Carmelite Clothing Day
This is a joyful day and a preparation for the total gift of self that is to come at the religious profession.  All has been left behind and that includes any reliance on self because now it is time to rely on God alone.  Religious life is the proximate call to holiness and the ceremony of the clothing in the Carmelite habit is meant to impress this on us.  The habit, especially the Brown Scapular, is the constant sacramental reminder of the call to contemplative prayer and divine union.  As a chosen bride and spouse of Our Lord, the religious is joined to Him on the Cross as a victim for the Church, priests and the salvation of souls.  Do not look back but press on to the goal of union with Jesus Christ, Our Lord and Savior.

Love Is Life Or Death

This week is the feast of All Saints which honors God in His heroic examples of sanctifying power.  Today is the feast of Christ the King which was instituted by Pope Pius XI in 1925 to combat secularism and to re-assert God’s rights in modern society which have been denied.  Christ is King in His divinity and in His humanity through the grace of union, headship, priesthood and conquest on the Cross.  He established His Church with rights to teach, rule and sanctify.  We pray daily in the Lord’s Prayer “Thy Kingdom Come”.

Live In A Spirit Of Prayer

Passion Sunday 2019
Passion Sunday begins an intensification of our Lenten penances with the veiling of the crucifix and statues which are spiritually encouraging to us. The key to this season is to strive to have the thoughts of Christ, especially those of His Passion. With this, prayer and hope we can rely on God and His promises.

Follow Your Star

Feast Of The Epiphany 2019
The feast of the Epiphany is the manifestation of God made Man and seen in the Holy Infant by the Magi. The Magi were Gentile wise men who were familiar with Hebrew prophecies & recognized in a miraculous star the fulfillment of them in the coming of the Messiah. They had the generosity to follow the star to Bethlehem & be the first non-Jews to see and to adore Jesus Christ.  Each of us is called to follow our own star of attraction which will lead us to Our Lord if we, also, are generous. It is never too late to follow your star.

Feast of Hope

Christmas 2018 Midnight
Christmas brings joy to all the people of the world despite any attempts to thwart it.  So along with the sorrows around us nothing prevents God dwelling among us.  We hope in God that He will save us and exercise His Kingship in a society devoted to His Royal and Davidic line.  The Mass texts re-enforce this through their own prayerful considerations.

Our Daily Battles

26th Sunday after Pentecost 2018
The Collect for the 26th Sunday after Pentecost must be taken to heart.  Both words and works are needed to reach heaven and we must perform the works in the state of grace.  The crucifix is the reminder of what God did for us and we must be like the early Christians in turning away from our own personal idols.  Each day is a struggle against a society which militates against the true Faith.

His Kingdom Of Love

Feast Of Christ The King 2018
After a preview of All Saints and All Souls Days, the sermon proper for the feast of Christ the King begins after the Epistle and Gospel.  Pope Pius XI established the feast in 1925 to counter the secularism that permeates our society.  After an examination of the causes leading up to our modern errors we are given the teaching on the social kingdom of Christ which frees us from the shackles of sin.  Our Lord has given us a kingdom of peace, unity, holiness and above all love.  We must love in return and not despise His love.
