His Battle Is Continued In Us

Feast of St. Michael 2023
Devotion to St. Michael predates the Church herself.  In the Old Testament he was the protector of God’s people and now he is the protector of the Catholic Church.  St. Michael is truly a universal devotion and can be found throughout the centuries in both the Eastern and Western Church.  We should imitate the priest and call upon the help of this great Archangel at every Mass to protect us against temptations in our prayers.  St. Michael defends those who are loyal to Christ, but he will justly punish the proud.

Blessed Are Those Who Mourn

Feast of the Seven Sorrows 2023
All of Our Lord’s acts had infinite value because He is God.  The Blessed Virgin Mary is called the Associate of Redemption by her union of friendship, love, and emotion.  She has an intimate union with God.  We all weep, because we are injured, or mistreated, or ignored, or misunderstood, etc.  Sometimes we weep for love.  Love can be the greatest source of pain.  We see how much the saints suffered for love.  One of the reasons why Our Lady wept on Calvary is because of the loss of so many souls whom she loved so deeply.

Two Paths To Choose

14th Sunday after Pentecost 2023
St. Paul tells us that those who commit the sins he lists in the Epistle will not enter Heaven.  If we have guilt on our conscience, let us rid ourselves of it.  We must be sorrowful and detest our sins, make acts of perfect contrition and go to the sacrament of Penance often.  There are only two paths, the road to God and the road to Lucifer.  St. Pius X fought against that synthesis of all heresies – Modernism.  The same fight is continued today by true clergy and faithful.

God Asks For 100%

1st Friday September 2023
First Friday Conference The Fourteen Holy Helpers have been invoked since the Middle Ages to help with specific needs of the faithful.  St. Augustine is one of the greatest moral and doctrinal theologians in history.  His most famous works are popular even among non-Catholics.  Conversion of life and the mortification of the senses can be extremely difficult.  Temptations can surprise us at any moment and defense against these temptations often takes heroism. It is worth fighting for the things that really matter.  Sensitivity is necessary when practicing charity towards our neighbor.

The Rosary & The Transfiguration

1st Friday Conference August 2023
Feast of St. DominicSt. Dominic worked to combat the Albigensian heresy.  Despite his great ability in preaching, he had little success until he was instructed by the Blessed Mother to use the Rosary.  The power of this spiritual weapon is seen even to this day.

The three Synoptic Gospels speak of the miracle of the Transfiguration and even St. John refers to it when he says that we have seen the glory of the Lord.  Through this miracle, Christ showed Himself as He really is, by allowing His divinity to be shown through His human nature.

The Perfect Image Of Christ

Feast of Saints Peter & Paul 2023
This day, although it celebrates both apostles, is centered on St. Peter as the first Vicar of Christ on Earth.  God began to form the character of St. Peter from the moment of his birth because the Church was to be built on this man.  The reason He chose St. Peter above all the other Apostles was because he loved Our Lord more than the rest.  The prayers of the faithful saved their first pope so we must pray as if the outcome of the current crisis depends on us.

An Unfathomable Gift

19th Sunday After Pentecost 2022
We should look to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque as a model for our growth in the spiritual life.  Many times she experienced the pull of the world drawing her away from her exalted calling.  It was only by responding to God’s grace that she ultimately fulfilled His true designs for her.  We are taught about Sanctifying Grace in both the Epistle and Gospel for today’s Mass.  We are instructed to “put on the new man” and told of the necessity of the “wedding garment” to share in the happiness of the King.  We should be willing to lose our life a hundred times rather than lose the unfathomable gift of grace.

Our Loving Angels

17th Sunday After Pentecost 2022
God calls us to be an example to those who hate what we believe. There is only one Catholic Faith and because of this, only one true religion. As we hear in the Gospel, we must love the Lord with our whole heart. When we love Him with everything we possess then we know how to love our neighbor. St. Jerome tells us that everyone receives a guarding angle on the day he is born. “Angle” means messenger and our angels fulfill that role by bringing messages between us and God; but more than that, our guarding angles love us tenderly. We should never do anything evil in the presence of our angel who always stands by our side.

Examples Of Sanctity In The Midst Of Corruption

9th Sunday After Pentecost 2022
We must not neglect the saints.  We should know something about the great saints this week like Saints John Vianney, Lawrence, and Clare.  But we must not forget those saints that are especially attacked in our day, like St. Philomena and St. Christopher.  Those who speak ill of God and His saints blaspheme and will not go unpunished.  We know that God rewards the good and punishes the evil and only permits evil to bring forth a greater good.  Just as He cleansed His physical temple of thieves, so He will one day cleanse the world and the Church of all corruption.

Fundamentals For Fatherhood

2nd Sunday after Pentecost 2022
With the vocation of fatherhood being so attacked in the world today, it is more important than ever for Catholic fathers to hold fast to the holy principals of their vocation.  True manhood, with its accompanying virtues of perseverance, responsibility, and love of neighbor, is the essential foundation for this vocation.  The father as the head of the family is responsible before all others for, not only the intellectual, but also the spiritual education of his children.  In following the example of the great saintly fathers of Catholic history, men will be able to meet the expectation of this most necessary calling.
