How Can Sin Make Us Better?

3rd Sunday after Epiphany 2020
Today is a continuation of the beautiful time after the Epiphany when the God-Man is shown to us for our adoration and love.  The Redemptive Incarnation is with the Trinity as the most important truth about God Who rules the cosmos, even as an Infant.  The Epistle warns us not to be puffed up with pride but to be as the centurion in the Gospel who had great faith and humility.  Our faults and sins should humble us and thereby make us better.

One Word Can Make A Saint

2nd Sunday after Epiphany 2020
The Liturgy is moving toward the redemptive aspect of the Incarnation.  We go with the true and certain knowledge of Christ’s divinity that is manifested to us during these days.  We pray and thereby know our Faith through the liturgical law that the law of prayer is the law of believing.  This Mass is full of such treasures that we must ask God to give them to us as He did give them to the shepherds and magi.  His first miracle at the wedding feast of Cana was a prelude to His final miracle at the Last Supper when He changed wine into His Precious Blood.

The Holy Family & Silent Prayer

Feast Of The Holy Family 2020
This feast celebrates the beautiful life that Jesus led in this world with His Holy Family.  The Epistle gives us the foundation of the Holy Family’s life together which is charity – the bond of perfection.  The Gospel teaches about Christ’s consciousness of His divine mission and how others observed His growth in wisdom, grace and age.  The sermon concludes with a meditation on silent prayer and why it is essential at Mass.

The Fountain of All Graces

Feast Of The Holy Name of Jesus 2019
Tomorrow is the feast of the Epiphany and it commemorates the showing forth of God made Man and His dwelling among us.  The feast marks three manifestations: first, to the Magi, second, Christ’s Baptism and third, the wedding feast at Cana.  Today’s feast celebrates the Savior’s Name and all that we owe It.  We receive great consolations through use of the Holy Name.  Jesus means savior and Christ is saving us even right now.

Take Courage And Fear Not

Gaudete Sunday 2019
Today is a day of joy which is expressed in the rose color of the vestments.  Our crosses seem small in comparison with Our Lord’s coming at Christmas which is so near now.  Prayer is our best work as we prepare for the Nativity.  We should thank God for His gifts, especially our holy Faith.  Soon, He will come to save us.

Panegyric On The Immaculate Conception

Feast Of The Immaculate Conception 2019
This conference after the Mass honoring Our Lady’s Immaculate Conception begins with an explanation of the Epistle and how it applies to our Blessed Mother.  The declaration of this dogma was done under Pope Pius IX and brought joy to the world.  By a special divine privilege the Virgin Mary was preserved free from original sin in light of the merits of her Son on the cross.  This is what we celebrate today.

We Will Bless Our Crosses

1st Sunday Of Advent 2019
The feast of St. Nicholas on Friday is a celebration of an heroic early bishop whose acts of charity have been carried on to our day in the figure of Santa Claus.  Advent and the new liturgical year begin today and the Introit of the Mass is an appeal to beg God to protect us from the devil.  The Epistle gives the plan for this season – cast out the works of darkness and put on the armor of light in preparation for Christmas.  The Gospel continues the warning from last week about the end of the world and our facing God’s judgment.  We will be thankful on that day for all the merit gained through our struggles for salvation.

Proofs of Christ’s Divinity

23rd Sunday after Pentecost
God loves us infinitely more than we love ourselves and this thought should turn us to Him in prayer often.  Today’s Mass is about the Last Judgment and our eternal destiny afterwards.  All will be revealed and corrected. Christ is the Son of God and Our Lord gave evidence to help us believe Him.  Some of the demonstrations of His Divinity are His perfections, miracles and teachings.

Eternal Rest

All Souls Day 2019
Mother Mary Austin wrote movingly about the Holy Souls in Purgatory and her congregation was dedicated to helping them.  These saved individuals are holy but not perfect yet and fling themselves into Purgatory to be purified before entering God’s presence.  We have the responsibility to pray and to sacrifice for the relief and release of the Holy Souls and especially now when they are ignored and neglected.  Our model in this is the Blessed Mother whom Our Lord entrusted with care of His Church Suffering.

Invincible Weapons

21st Sunday After Pentecost 2019
In the Gospel we learn that we are tied together because the man is cast in prison and his wife and children are sent there with him.  We also see the mercy of God and the consequences of not showing mercy to one another.  The Epistle reminds us that we are engaged in a spiritual battle and need to use our heavenly arsenal to wage war on the devil and his minions.  Prayer is key and the desire for holiness is a sure sign of victory.
