Bear Wrongs Patiently

15th Sunday after Pentecost 2016

Father speaks on the topic of our fallen nature versus grace, wherein grace acts as a curb to our tendencies to rail against and provoke our neighbor.  As Christ was often criticized by the crowd while he was preaching, so we are subject to the same sort of provocations by our neighbors.  As He bared wrongs patiently, so must we with the help of grace that He sends us.  It’s easy to fly off the handle but far more difficult, and profitable to our souls, to suffer in silence and leave the matter to God Himself.  Jesus was moved by the tears of the widow and so will be moved by our tears and sufferings at Judgment time.

Our Humiliations

Sermon From
10th Sunday After Pentecost 2014
This week we have the feasts of St. Helen and St. Bernard who entered religious life with thirty relatives and friends who accompanied him.  This is the Sunday of Humility when we remember where we came from so we do not fall.  St. Paul reminds Corinthians of their stupidity in worshiping rocks and how grace helped them.  We were called to a supernatural destiny from the beginning but Adam destroyed that for us.  Now we must overcome the inherited pride by the essential virtue of humility because unless we become like little children we shall not enter into heaven.

Love Never Fails

Sermon From
All Souls Day 2013
This beautiful Mass for the Holy Souls in Purgatory has its own sequence entitled “Dies Irae” which means the Day of Wrath.  It is a warning to the living of the judgments of God but ends with hope of happiness in heaven.  Today is proof that the debt for our forgiven sins can be removed and that Divine Love has in fact created Purgatory for that purpose.  Obstacles still persist in the soul after death and impede our entrance into glory.  These can and will be removed by a purification that severs souls from anything that still holds them from ascending.  What do non-Catholics do in the face of death?  Our consoling doctrine can teach them about God’s merciful love.

Show Them the Light of Truth

Third Sunday after Easter 2013
There is an entire lesson of the Catechism dedicated to one prayer – the Our Father.  We address God as “Our Father Who art in Heaven,” because we belong to Him and we share in His life through grace.

In this Mass we pray that all those in the darkness of unbelief may be given the light of truth.  Pope Innocent III, who died in the year 1216, said that the words of consecration in the Roman Canon were given by Christ Himself to the Apostles, and were handed down by them to their successors.  The Council of Florence teaches us that the formula of the Consecration preceded the appearance of all the Scriptural texts.  Yet the enemies of Christ have sought to tamper with these very words.

We should not hand our children over to the paganism and hedonism of the sports programs.  We are pilgrims in this life, and we must not allow ourselves to be distracted with worldly and godless obsessions.

Make Us Worthy to Praise Her

Immaculate Conception Of The Blessed Virgin Mary 2012

The Blessed Virgin Mary dispenses the benefits of the Redemption to each of us.  She is always there, watching over us.  God, Who destined the Virgin Mary to be His Mother on Earth, deemed it unfitting that one who was called to such a great and noble vocation be in even the least way imperfect.  Her redemption was anticipatory and preservative, in view of the merits won on Calvary.  This feast is not only meant to honor our Mother in Heaven but to teach us about Sanctifying Grace, the greatest of God’s gifts to us in this life.  We are the continual objects of the devil’s attacks because of his hatred for this wonderful gift we have been given.  The Immaculate Conception made Our Lady the perfect mother to us, and the refuge of all sinners.

Joy Amidst Suffering

Conference On Purgatory
1st Friday November 2012
The Holy Souls in Purgatory experience eviternity, or what is called discontinuous time, which is that time which measures the change in a soul.  God lives in a reality independent of time, and one might say that the souls in Purgatory live in a reality between time and eternity.  If one dies without being completely prepared, the presence of God would be too intense for the soul to endure.  It must first be purified completely before seeing God, and this is the reason for Purgatory.  The joy experienced in Purgatory is like the joy of Heaven amidst suffering.

He Reigns Despite His Enemies

Christ the King 2012

There are so many people in the world who sincerely wish to participate in a feast like today but are not able.  We should be all the more grateful that we have been given this privilege.  As the liturgical year comes to its conclusion, representing the end of time, this feast reminds us that on that final day all nations will be compelled to recognize the supreme dominion of Christ over the entire world and stands as a warning to all those who refuse to do so now.  The feast of All Saints celebrates those who were loyal subjects to their King during this life.  This feast was meant to combat secularism, which is so widespread in our society.  The “state” has taken the place of God in our world.  However, religion is not a private matter, and it is of the very nature of man to practice religion, and publicly so.  Christ is King because He is God and deserves our obedience and adoration.  Christ is also man and through His Grace of Headship He unites all creation in His very being.  It is through glorifying our King we gain our ultimate happiness.

Everything from God’s Hand

17th Sunday after Pentecost 2012
St. Paul tells us that we must live the life of holiness to which we have all been called.  When we speak of our neighbor we refer to both our friends and enemies.  Everything that happens to us comes from God.  He controls the universe and wills everything except for sin itself.  It should be easy for us to practice patience and forbearance, if we see all the actions of our neighbor as directly willed or at least permitted by God.  Our enemies provide crosses for us to carry with patience and provide us with the opportunities to practice virtue.  We do not know the conscience of our neighbor, but we know all the graces we have received and the malice of our own souls.  How easy it should be to judge ourselves harshly while being slow to judge our neighbor.

Paying the Price of Sin

12th Sunday After Pentecost 2012
The Epistle tells us that “the letter kills, and the spirit gives life,” which reiterates the fact that the Old Law has been fulfilled in Christ.

It is of the utmost importance for the youth to pray that God guides them to their true vocation in life.  The Church teaches us that the primary purpose of the married state is for the couple to aid the children God sends them in their journey back to God.  The pure love shared among the members of the Holy Family should be our model.

The man found half dead in this Gospel account represents us and the wounds we bear on our souls due to sin.  The Samaritan who saved the life of his enemy represents Our Lord Who saves the souls of sinners.

Stand Fast

Sermon From
11th Sunday After Pentecost 2012
Honor should be given to a priest, not because of who he is in himself, but because of the character he possesses through the sacrament of Holy Orders.

When reading the words of St. Paul’s Epistle we have hope for our enemies.  St. Paul persecuted the Church of Christ, but by God’s grace he was converted.  We must pray for those who persecute the Church of Christ today and do what we can to make up for the blasphemies and insults that the Blessed Mother and Our Lord endure.  No matter how bad the crisis in the Church and society appear to be, we are assured that God will triumph in the end.  The victory will come, and we will be filled with joy and thanksgiving, but only if we remain faithful.
