Queen of Angels And Men

Conference On First Friday, May 2021 – Feast Of St. Stanislaus
St. Stanislaus is the patron saint of Poland and an example of a bishop who gives his life to protect his flock.  The month of May is dedicated to Our Lady’s queenship and ends with Her feast day.  Pope Pius XII instituted the feast with an encyclical that sounds prophetic in its words: “especially in troubled times the world has turned to the Blessed Virgin Mary as Queen”. This is for several reasons beginning with Her divine maternity which started at the Annunciation.  By Her “fiat” God became man and thereby showed that all graces would come from Him but through Her. The Blessed Mother is Queen by being the highest of any creature in charity and all the other virtues.  She also has the title by earning it with Our Lord at Calvary as His cooperator in redemption.  We must proclaim Her sovereignty and draw close to Her.

Good Example

Third Sunday after Easter 2021
Today is also the feast of St. Mark the Evangelist and the day for the Greater Litanies, which are more ancient than St. Mark’s day.  St. Peter in the Epistle is asking the faithful to practice the Faith and thereby be models for non-Catholics and poor Catholics.  He reminds us of practicing the virtue of obedience before God and our neighbors.  Our good example and brief words, not preaching, convert others.  The story of a priest simply asking a girl “not to hurt God” is a wonderful case in point.

I, Myself, Will Shepherd My Flock

Good Shepherd Sunday 2021
Our Lord’s Resurrection is the foundation of our faith and so we celebrate this during Paschal time and on every Sunday.  Christ spent these forty days preparing His apostles and stirring their hearts with ardor and love.  This Sunday shows Him as the Good Shepherd Who gives His life for His Sheep and will ever protect and care for them.  Others He has entrusted with this task in His absence but woe to those who betray that trust.  Jesus assures us that He will shepherd His flock Himself.

Gospel Of Faith

Low Sunday 2021
The Easter Octave is completed today and our recently baptized neophytes put aside their baptismal garments and now begin the life as one of the faithful.  This is particularly done by following Our Lord in the Liturgy in our prayers. The Paschal candle is Christ with us now and lights the way in appreciating His Resurrection.  The Faith is all important and essential.  Today’s Gospel teaches us how we must approach this gift with humility knowing we cannot achieve this by our own power.  This theological virtue which has God as source and goal will lead us to heaven one day.

At The Foot Of The Cross

From ancient times the faithful gathered around the Cross on this day to commemorate Our Lord’s Passion and Death which He offered to teach us the terrible evil of sin and His infinite love for us.  Our hearts are moved in the opening of the liturgy by the unfolding of the prophecies and their fulfillment through the readings and the chanting of the Passion.  With this understanding we join with Our Lord on the Cross as He prays solemnly for us and the needs of the whole world.  We adore the cross as our ancestors did and finally we receive Our Lord in Holy Communion and unite ourselves perfectly with Him.  Now fortified we can offer ourselves daily with Our Savior and one day win the glory of the Resurrection through dying together with Him.

Crave The Eucharist

Holy Thursday 2021

St. Paul warns us in the Epistle not to abuse Our Lord by receiving Him sacrilegiously in Holy Communion.  This is especially so because the Holy Eucharist is the greatest gift God has given us and the sign of His love for us.  To betray this love is like the kiss of Judas.  The Mandatum is part of the ceremony and this is Christ’s commandment of love which He taught the apostles by His own example.  In giving us Himself in the Holy Eucharist Our Lord asks us to love Him in return.  We have many heroic ancestors to follow who inspire us when we experience our own difficulties in returning love for love.  Eucharistic miracles are God’s frequent way of proving the truth of the Faith and with all these aids we should not be discouraged.

His Infinite Suffering

Holy Week begins with Our Lord’s triumphal entrance into His city, Jerusalem.  The outpouring of fervor by the pilgrims there for the Passover was increased by the recent raising of Lazarus from the dead.  The city, which did not welcome Him when the Magi came and announced His birth, did so now in such a way that His foes were left feeling powerless.  All would change by the end of the week and today’s liturgy shows that as well with the Passion.  First Communion today is an opportunity to receive Our Lord as the children of the Hebrews did many years ago.

To Serve God Is To Reign

St. Matthias 2021
(Profession Day)
Today marks a step closer to the Sacred Priesthood as our brother officially becomes a member of our community with his profession.  Religious life is a secure path to holiness and happiness in this life which will blossom in heaven.  In recalling the first stirrings of a vocation one can see Our Lord gently calling to follow Him in His life of suffering for others.  Sacrifices and greater challenges are still in the future as Christ molds one into a perfect image of Himself on the Cross.  By a generous and humble acceptance of this will lead to our sharing in the glory of Our Lord.

Purity of Intention

Quinquagesima Sunday 2021
In preparation for Ash Wednesday and Lent there is a review of the laws concerning fast and abstinence.  Today is also the feast of St. Valentine and his impact in our own day.  The Epistle for this Mass is taken from St. Paul and teaches us the importance of doing all our works, especially the upcoming penances, with purity of intention which is produced by charity.  The Gospel tells of the cure of the blind man by Our Lord.  We are that blind man who need God’s help to see our sinfulness and do something about it.

The Epiphany And The Holy Family

Feast Of The Holy Family 2021
The crèche is a composite of many events surrounding the Nativity and culminating with the adoration of the Magi which is celebrated on the feast of the Epiphany.  The first Sunday after this feast is that of the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph.  The Gospel tells the story of the finding of Our Lord in the Temple at the age of 12.  The Holy Family is a model of liturgical prayer for our families because of its fidelity and devotion to all the celebrations of the Old Testament like the Passover.  Our religious community has enjoyed the patronage of the Holy Family for 44 years and we are grateful for that and for all the assistance we have received from the faithful.
