Surprising Apostle

Sermon From
18th Sunday After Pentecost 2013
This sermon tells the story of Saint Matthew who was unique and unlike any of the other disciples chosen by Our Lord.  However, this sermon includes multiple talks including loyalty and friendship with the example of the friends to the man who was lowered down to Christ in today’s Gospel.  Also, the vice of covetousness is warned against as seen in people of pride and those who have a grasping desire for power and wealth.  We are instructed to pray with faith because our prayers lack faith and this is the cause of the lack of miracles today.  Lastly, we are reminded that repentance for sins is paramount and a clear conscience allows one to pray better.

Rash Judgment

Sermon From The
11th Sunday After Pentecost 2013
Today’s announcements have details about the upcoming confirmations.  Also, there is an instruction on Holy Communion and the dispositions necessary for its reception and how wrong it is to assume what the state of soul is for a non-communicant.  We have many beautiful feasts this week and we learn about St. Dominic, Our Lady of the Snows, the Transfiguration, St. John Vianney, the 14 Holy Helpers, St. Lawrence and St. Philomena.  Finally, we are reminded that, unlike non-Catholics, our belief, as prayed in the Act of Faith, is based on God Who can neither deceive nor be deceived.  This is supernatural faith.  Others believe in their own study of the Bible etc. and that is only natural faith.

A Place For Sinners

Sermon From The
3rd Sunday after Pentecost 2013
The Church reminds us in the Introit of this Mass, just as she did at the beginning of the liturgical year, to lift up our souls to God.  We have been given the Holy Ghost in this season to carry us to our goal.  The first half of the liturgical year culminates in the feast of the Holy Trinity.  We have a long journey ahead to become saints.  God gave many promises to the souls who love the Sacred Heart of Jesus.  We are called to practice devotion to the Christ’s Heart during this month.

We Proclaim the Dogma

Trinity Sunday 2013
The world is fraught with temptations which undermine vocations of young men and women.  The result is that there are very few good vocations today.  Through the intercession of St. Rita, the patron saint of impossible causes, our community was granted priestly vocations.

The most solemn dogma of the Trinity is proclaimed by the Church on this day.  Although we can reason to the existence of a single Creator, we cannot reason to the existence of three Persons in that one God.  We believe in the Trinity because it was God who revealed this truth to us.  Constant reference is made to the Holy Trinity throughout the Mass, and it is in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost that we are baptized.  We testify and proclaim without ambiguity that this dogma is true, and we dedicate ourselves to the honor of our Triune God.

The Three Give Testimony

Low Sunday 2013
This Sunday does not have the liturgical splendor of Easter, and it is in comparison to that feast that it is called Low Sunday.  We made promises on Easter to love Christ and to put away the things of the devil.  Although we do not know the true state of our souls, we should examine our spiritual life and ask ourselves if we have made any progress.  The Gospel account of today is a truly exquisite example of God’s mercy.  We are quick to judge the Apostles for their doubts, but how often do we struggle with doubts of our own?  The sacrament of Penance was instituted on the evening of Easter Sunday.  We see Christ in the Holy Eucharist, but we must still believe.  We are told that St. Mary Magdalen was one of the first to see the risen Lord because, despite her sins, she remained faithful at the foot of the Cross.  May we ever retain the effect of the Paschal mysteries in our lives.

The Guardian of Vocations

Sermon On The
Feast of St. Joseph 2013
St. Joseph is called true spouse of the Blessed Mother and foster father of the Son of God.  Whatever their vocation in life may be, the reason many do not follow their calling is because they lack confidence.  It is true that we should not trust in ourselves, however we must never forget that we can do all things in Him Who gives us strength.  It is the combination of humility and magnanimity that makes a truly great man.  God gives to each vocation what that person needs to accomplish his or her destiny, and we see this especially in the singular gifts given to St. Joseph.

The Queen of Angels loves him for all eternity in a way different than she loves the rest of mankind.  She loves him as a wife.  The marriage was true and real, although unconsummated and virginal, and without this marriage there would be no Incarnation.

We are in a war with the enemies of Christ who have seized control of the Church.  Even the so-called traditionalists are self-righteous and lacking in charity.  However, we are given a leader who has not abandoned us in these desperate times – the Holy Protector of the Church, St. Joseph.

Facing the Consequences of Our Sins

Sermon On
Passion Sunday 2013
Father Violette✟
All creation reflects the glory of God, however, angels and men, because of their freewill, have the obligation to acknowledge and worship their Creator.  We must pray humbly, perseveringly, and confidently.

The Church veils the statues of the saints, those objects of consolation, because we are meant to focus on Christ alone, and on the sufferings He endured for our sins.  We tend to blame our sufferings on the sins of others, but in truth, we experience the consequences of our own sins as much as those of our neighbor.  We are the ones condemning Our Lord to suffer and die.  We should rebuke ourselves severely for neglecting attendance at Mass, when we are able to do so.  The graces available to us at a single Mass are sufficient to save our souls.

What the Season Teaches

Sunday within the Octave of Christmas 2012
St. Paul tells us that although we were under the dominion of the world, we are the adopted sons of God and heirs of His kingdom.  It was prophesied that those who accepted the Messias will rise, while those who reject him will fall.  We have three major feasts after Christmas: St. Stephen, St. John, and the Holy Innocents.  We are taught by St. Stephen that it will not be easy to follow Christ.  St. John teaches us that we will be called to stand against heresy as he did in the first century.  And the Holy Innocents remind us of the secular persecution which desires to put Christ to death once again.  We must resist the attacks on the family which are widespread.  We must be thankful because we have been blessed.  We are the shepherds who have been chosen to approach the manger.

Our Glimpse of Heaven

Sermon From The
Feast Of All Saints 2012
We recall the great doctrine of the communion of saints while celebrating the Church Triumphant today.  The feast originated when the relics of the martyrs were removed from the catacombs and were brought in triumphal procession to be placed in the Pantheon, now consecrated to the Blessed Mother and all the martyrs.  There are far more saints than those we are able to celebrate throughout the year, so this feast is for all those other saints, both known and unknown.  In the liturgy we are given a glimpse of the Lamb of God surrounded by all His saints and angels.  At every Mass we practice the adoration which we will perform for all eternity in Heaven.  Our goal is to join all the saints of the Heavenly court along with our Divine Savior Who calls us to come to Him on this holy day.

He Reigns Despite His Enemies

Christ the King 2012

There are so many people in the world who sincerely wish to participate in a feast like today but are not able.  We should be all the more grateful that we have been given this privilege.  As the liturgical year comes to its conclusion, representing the end of time, this feast reminds us that on that final day all nations will be compelled to recognize the supreme dominion of Christ over the entire world and stands as a warning to all those who refuse to do so now.  The feast of All Saints celebrates those who were loyal subjects to their King during this life.  This feast was meant to combat secularism, which is so widespread in our society.  The “state” has taken the place of God in our world.  However, religion is not a private matter, and it is of the very nature of man to practice religion, and publicly so.  Christ is King because He is God and deserves our obedience and adoration.  Christ is also man and through His Grace of Headship He unites all creation in His very being.  It is through glorifying our King we gain our ultimate happiness.
