Faith Cures Our Deafness

11th Sunday After Pentecost 2022
This time is referred to as the Blessed Virgin Mary’s thirty days, because of the numerous feasts which honor her over the next month.  Although she is given little respect by non-Catholics, she has been rightfully showered with praise by the saints, councils of the Church, and many others.  We are taught by this Mass about the sacraments and mysteries of the Catholic Church, symbolized in the Gospel account.  Our Lord came to save us by granting us His Holy Spirit and curing our deafness through the gift of Faith.  We must pray from our hearts and keep our gaze on Heaven, our goal.

Guarantee of Heaven

Feast Of Corpus Christi 2022
The Mass, renewing our Savior’s death on the cross, replaced all the rites of the Old Law.  None are excluded from this sacrifice unless they should decline the invitation.  We faithful strive daily for union with Christ in the Holy Eucharist, and we hope to die doing so.  This is the food to strengthen us on our journey back to heaven.  We are made in God’s image and have been given the ability to choose so that we might use it to choose Him.  Our Lord leaves us free and does not compel us in this choice.  Let us receive Christ’s Body now as a foretaste of heaven to come.

Spirit Of The New Law

Pentecost Sunday 2022
Sunday is a day sanctified by God.  From the creations of the angels to the Resurrection of Our Lord, and now the feast of Pentecost, this day has been made holy in a special way.  The Holy Ghost descended upon that small group of disciples to institute the New Law and inspire them to spread the Good News.  They preached for the conversion of thousands of souls and the growth of their own personal holiness.  We continue this mission to this very day.  We must purify our intentions and refuse to be satisfied with anything less than the Greatest Treasure of all, possession of God Himself.

God Wants Our Whole Heart

Sunday After The Ascension 2022
We, as Catholics, must not lead a double life.  God desires our whole heart.  When we are told that we must “watch in prayer,” this means that we must be on guard against both the enemy and occasions of sin.  What a wonderful reward we are offered for the practice of charity by Christ’s words, “charity covers a multitude of sins.”  An act as simple as feeding our family is a corporal work of mercy.  With the practice of fortitude, we can remain steadfast in the Faith, overcome the despondency the devil attempts to create in us, and continually grow in devotion.

Easter Joy

Easter Sunday 2022
Lent has passed by quickly but we take away the lesson that the “Imitation of Christ” reiterates for us that we win heaven by work and suffering.  With the Resurrection we share in the happiness of being with Our Lord once again.  Christ has proved that He conquered sin by overcoming its consequence, death.  As soon as He rose again He visited His Blessed Mother and later St. Mary Magdalen and all the others during His active Easter Sunday.  We must not let the fervor and devotion that carried us the past forty days subside so that we are reduced to anything less than our spiritual enthusiasm today.  We must build on what we have so to draw closer to our Risen Lord and Savior.

The Only Solution

Holy Thursday 2022
Today is a good day to remind everyone about how to receive Holy Communion properly. The Epistle is a warning from St. Paul that is timely  because we live in a time of unprecedented sacrileges against Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament.  The Gospel describes the Mandatum when Christ washed the feet of His apostles.  This was the first interruption of what was the last Passover meal.  The second interruption near the end when when Our Lord gave His most precious gift just before His death – Himself in the Holy Eucharist.  This is the supreme sacrament in the Church that everything revolves around.  The Mass and priesthood which were instituted this night with the Holy Eucharist are essential to Its continuation to the end of time.  All the problems which face us can and will be solved by God in the Blessed Sacrament of the altar.

Hear the Word and Keep It

3rd Sunday In Lent 2022
Yesterday’s feast of St. Joseph with the solemn Mass was another encouraging grace during our Lenten retreat days.  Now St. Joseph prepares us for this week’s feast of the Annunciation which celebrates the Incarnation and the beginning of our redemption.  Every day in Lent has its own Mass and stational church which are meant to give us unique graces as we prepare for Holy Week.  Recent Masses taught us the devotion we should have to the Holy Eucharist and another the punishments that follow upon on sins of lying.  Today the catechumens were again given lessons and blessings along their path to Baptism.  These same rituals are part of the baptismal ceremonies.  St. Paul’s Epistle instructs us on evils to avoid and how to do so.  These are critical especially for parents who have been given the responsibility to raise their children as God wants.  The Gospel tells about Our Lord’s exorcising the devil and His defense of the blasphemies brought against Him by the Pharisees.  The account ends with praise of the Blessed Virgin Mary which Our Lord elevated to a supernatural order.

Appreciate What We Have

2nd Sunday In Lent 2022
Today we reviewed the first of the six Commandments of the Church and how to observe it regarding the Holy Mass and the Sunday obligation.  These treasures from heaven have been given to us and we need to be thankful to God for them.  Today’s Epistle is addressed to the early church which St. Paul evangelized.  He warns these Christians of the dangers to their morals in the world around them.  We can learn from this about the situations we face in our own surroundings.  Finally, we too are strengthened with the apostles by the Gospel account of the Transfiguration.  Christ touches us also with His hand through reception of Him at Holy Communion.

Indirect Charity

5th Sunday After Epiphany 2022
We have many wonderful saints this week and also the feast of Our Lady of Lourdes at the end of the week.  St. Paul in today’s epistle teaches us how to practice love of neighbor through mercy, humility, meekness and kindness.  In the Gospel Our Lord prepares His disciples for the reality that the devil will seek to destroy the spread of the Faith.  Christ teaches patience so that the good will not be uprooted with the evil but that all will be made right at the final judgment.

We Belong In Heaven

3rd Sunday After Epiphany 2022
From the life of St. Raymund of Pennafort we learn that it is never too late to follow a life of holiness.  This Mass reminds us that we do not belong here below but above with God in heaven.  Therefore we should pray always with that intention and separate ourselves from even just thoughts which will plague us on our deathbeds.  Finally, Our Lord stresses the importance of the priesthood in the Gospel when He directs the cured leper to show himself to the priests.  We need good and holy priests and generous vocations.
