Spouse of the Holy Spirit

Pentecost Sunday 2026
The Church always spiritualizes secular culture, and we should do the same with Memorial Day.  Let us pray for all those who lived as examples of natural fortitude and who have sacrificed their lives for the protection and freedom of their fellow man.

This is one of the three great feast days of the liturgical year.  We know that after the Ascension, when the disciples had lost their Lord, they found their consolation in prayer with the Virgin Mary, Spouse of the Holy Ghost.  The face of the Earth is renewed through the Mother of God.  The Holy Spirit came today in wind and fire to announce a new covenant between God and His people.  That covenant of love and obedience cannot be found in the world.  Even God Himself lovingly obeys the priest when he utters the words of Consecration.  We need the courage given to the Apostles on this day when the words of the Prophet Joel were fulfilled.  We should cry out and beg God that we too might be changed.

Today Is Our Victory

Ascension Thursday Evening 2026
The Gospel account speaks of Our Lord being “taken up to Heaven,” which means He was “assumed,” yet we are told by the Gradual and Alleluia that He “ascended” into Heaven.  Both these words can be applied, because this was an act of all three Persons of the Trinity.  Our Lord ascended by His own divine power, but He was also brought home by the power of the Father and the Holy Ghost.  Just as the Apostles gathered in prayer with the Blessed Mother after the departure of Christ, we are together with her now.  Angels from Heaven revealed the dogma to us, and to deny this dogma of the Ascension maliciously prevents one from entering Heaven.  Although this is a glorious mystery of the Rosary, we cannot help but feel sad at the physical departure of Our Lord.  We may be sorrowful because He left, but we are joyful because of His promised return.  Today Our Lord prepared a place for us in our heavenly home.

Have We Rejected the Invitation?

2nd Sunday after Pentecost 2025
The so-called “Theology of the Body” is contrary to the Churches teaching.  We know from Our Lord’s own words that there will be no marriage in Heaven.  During the summer we must remember that are bodies are temples of the Holy Ghost, and we must practice modesty.
The priest wears the liturgical color of green because this season is full of hope.  There is a great feast set for us, but it is up to us to partake.  God generously invites us but if we are “too busy” then He will invite those more worthy.  When witnessing the devotion of those who have recently discover the Latin Mass, we should ask ourselves if we appreciate it as they do. The Holy Eucharist and the Sacred Heart are the great antidotes to tepidity.

In The Presence Of The Trinity

Trinity Sunday 2025
When we recall the words of Christ, “I have come to do the Will of My Father,” we need only look at the crucifix to see the love God the Father has for us.  He was willing to sacrifice His Son to save us.  We are privileged to know about the mystery of the Holy Trinity, which we could not know without God revealing it to us.  Although most of the Bible does not speak of it directly, belief in this dogma has been handed down through Sacred Tradition.  This mystery was revealed to us because we are meant to live every day in the presence of the Trinity, constantly contemplating Him dwelling within our souls.  We cannot reason to the existence of the Holy Trinity, because it requires faith.  It is only after making this act of faith that we can express our love for our Triune God.

The Birthday of the Church

Pentecost Sunday 2025
The Holy Ghost is often referred to as the “forgotten Person of the Trinity.”  However, without Him we would have no Church.  When Our Lord died on the Cross all the merits He won remained within Him, and it was only when He opened the gates of Heaven that all those merits could be shared with us.  All that He won is dispensed to us during the visible reign of the Holy Spirit.  Today the Church made its first physical appearance in the world.  The Apostles gathered with the Virgin Mary in the Upper Room, where the first Mass had been offered, and prayed for nine days in preparation for the coming of the Holy Ghost.  A miraculous wind drew crowds of thousands to the very first church.  The appearance of the tongues of fire expressed the consuming fire of God’s love.  The ultimate gift of the Holy Ghost is for each of us to be filled with the very love God has for Himself.

The Best Gift for His Mother

First Friday, December 2024
Conference on Grace and The Immaculate ConceptionWhen we speak of perfect passive conception, we refer to the moment in which the product of active conception is infused with a soul and becomes a human person.  From this moment of perfect passive conception, the Virgin Mary was redeemed in a preservative, not a liberative, manner.  The Blessed Mother from this point possessed a greater union with God than all the angels and saints.  Our Lady was not only free from the guilt of Original Sin, but also the concupiscence of the flesh, of the eyes, and the pride of life.  By a divine ligature, she was unable to consent to even the slightest imperfections.

Sanctifying Grace is a created share in the supernatural life of God.  When God breathed human life into Adam, He breathed a share of divine life into him as well.  Grace must be valued above all things.  We must be willing to live and die to preserve it.  The Blessed Mother was given the plenitude of grace in preparation for her role as the Mother of God, as well as Mother to each one of us.

For Those Who Have Lost Their Way

1st Friday Conference September 2024
St. Tarcisius lived during the days of great persecution.  He was ordained an acolyte or deacon as a young man, and was commissioned to care for the Christian prisoners.  While bringing Viaticum to these captives, St. Tarcisius was accosted by a group of pagans.  He gave his life rather than expose the Holy Eucharist to desecration.

Devotion to the Holy Infant of Prague is loved and honored by Our Lord Himself.  Our Lord is not a child now, but this is the humble state in which He first appeared in the world.  The statue depicts the Holy Infant as both God and Man, as well as King of all creation.  His welcoming gentleness seems to radiate out from the Infant Jesus of Prague.  He makes Himself a guide to all those who have lost their way.

Much is said about the accomplishments of St. Pius X, but not enough about his interior life.  His prayer had reached the heights of contemplation and was directed by the Holy Ghost.  He radiated goodness and wanted to comfort everybody, yet fought unwaveringly against the enemies of his spiritual children.

His Will Be Done

14th Sunday after Pentecost 2024
Those souls who are advanced in the spiritual life begin to experience the sweetness and joy of virtue in the Fruits of the Holy Ghost.  It is difficult to live a life of virtue when one first begins his journey, but it becomes easier the more one progresses.  The Gospel for this Mass is meant to reassure the faithful that, in His divine providence, God will provide all we need for the future.  Our anxiety is dispelled when we remember that even the difficulties and trials of our life come from the hand of God for the sake of sanctifying our souls.

A Share In His Strength

11th Sunday after Pentecost 2024
Confirmation Sunday August 2024In Confirmation one receives a character, an increase of sanctifying grace, as well as special sacramental grace.  Through this sacrament we receive a greater share in Christ’s strength and victory on the cross.  Those confirmed are now adults in the Faith and are enabled to defend the Church publicly.  Confirmation is known as the Sacrament of the Holy Ghost because through it we are given a perfection of His seven gifts.  The Holy Ghost is the Person of Love and, if we pray for it, He will give us a share of the bond of union which exists among the Persons of the Trinity.

The Gift of Wisdom

7th Sunday after Pentecost 2024
The readings for today’s Mass teach us about the seventh Gift of the Holy Ghost – wisdom.  Our Lord has warned us that our path will be difficult, but He has also assured us of His help.  Parents must combat the pagan principles being instilled in their children.  Even within those of the elderly population, who should be wiser, we find misplaced priorities and worldly ambition.  We must be willing to make sacrifices to reach Heaven, as we remain vigilant in avoiding false guides. We must never do the work of God for ourselves.
