Humility Reveals Our Faults

17th Sunday after Pentecost 2018
The 17th Sunday after Pentecost is a Mass about humility and how this virtue points to our faults and not to our neighbor’s. This year it follows the feasts of the Holy Cross and Seven Sorrows which remind us of the gifts from God like His Cross and Blessed Mother.  We should seek to appreciate these especially as we have them in the Holy Mass.  Would we not travel around the globe to attend just one Mass?  Then we should love and cherish every Mass we attend.

Draw Us To Yourself

Exaltation of the Holy Cross 2018
The feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross is a renewal of Good Friday but with the emphasis on the glorifying of the instrument of our salvation. From His Holy Cross, He calls to us and draws us to Himself.  At this Mass we are meant to respond generously to this invitation and become as Tertullian described the early Christians “Cross Lovers”.  The Cross was the means by which the Church was delivered from three centuries of persecution when Constantine triumphed by it.  His mother, St. Helen, shortly after discovered the true Cross.  Centuries later the emperor restored the Cross to its basilica in Jerusalem.  All these events are remembered today and encourage us to remain faithful.

Remember The Bells Of Joy

Holy Thursday 2018
The bells of thanksgiving and joy are rung during the Gloria of this Mass which celebrates the birthday of the priesthood, the Mass, the Holy Eucharist and the Sacred Liturgy.  These gifts of love from the Sacred Heart of Jesus must be appreciated as the heavenly treasure and the pearl of great price.  We renew our oath of allegiance to promote, to defend and never to compromise what Our Lord gave us this night before He died.

The True Cross

Exaltation of the Holy Cross 2017

Relics of the true Cross are in our shrine and give us a link to the origins of this feast.  The Cross had its antecedents in the Old Testament but its exaltation began with Constantine’s victory under its banner.  His mother, St. Helen, discovered the true Cross and later the Emperor Herclius saved it from the Persians.  The mystery of the Cross, if known and lived, will be our path to a glorious triumph in heaven and peace and consolation during the trials and sufferings of this life.

Sharing Of His Blood

Feast Of The Precious Blood 2017

The feast of the Precious Blood was instituted by the saintly Pope Pius IX in gratitude for the restoration of Rome to the Holy See.  St. Peter called Our Lord’s Blood Precious in his epistle and It is so because of the hypostatic union which joins Christ’s humanity to His divinity.  The Sacrifice of the Mass as that on Calvary depends on the shedding of this Blood and our communion with It.  Our bodies are thereby sanctified as temples of God and should never be cremated.  The Precious Blood sustained the early church during centuries of persecution so successfully that by the time of Constantine there were 1800 dioceses.  Finally, there is a special message for priests and aspirants to the priesthood on the sanctifying power of the Holy Mass as seen in the life of St. Bernadino Realino whose holiness was attested by miracles from his own blood.

Resurrection Compels Belief

Easter Sunday 2017

On Easter Sunday St. Paul tells us to purge out the old leaven and that Christ is our Passover.  His rising from the dead still shocks and amazes the modern world as it did in His day. One of the purposes for Our Lord’s Resurrection is as an aid to believe all that He taught and gave us.  It also proves His victory over sin because He overcame its consequence, death.  Easter is the glorious reward for Our Savior’s great work of sacrifice and includes all the merits He has won for us as well.  We too will rise from the dead someday and go to heaven where God has prepared a place for us.  We must have courage and enjoy this feast.

Solemn Liturgical Action

Good Friday 2017

Holy Mother the Church on Good Friday gathers around the Cross to witness the renewal of Christ’s sacrifice during the solemn liturgical action.  This ceremony has the Passion according to St. John, the solemn collects, the adoration of the Cross and culminates with Holy Communion.  Our Mother of Sorrows stands before us as the model so we might become like to Him in death, and in the hope that somehow we may attain to the resurrection from the dead.

Compassionate Mother

Friday in Passion Week 2017 – 1st Friday

The prophecy of Caiphas about the necessity of Christ’s death for the people is an example of how God’s word can even come from the mouth of His enemy.  However, the Friday in Passion Week is especially dedicated to our Mother of Sorrows.  Our Lady stood by the Cross of her Son and suffered with Him.  The Blessed Mother is the example for true friends of Our Savior and she will make them be like her and her Son.
