Today Is Our Victory

Ascension Thursday Evening 2026
The Gospel account speaks of Our Lord being “taken up to Heaven,” which means He was “assumed,” yet we are told by the Gradual and Alleluia that He “ascended” into Heaven.  Both these words can be applied, because this was an act of all three Persons of the Trinity.  Our Lord ascended by His own divine power, but He was also brought home by the power of the Father and the Holy Ghost.  Just as the Apostles gathered in prayer with the Blessed Mother after the departure of Christ, we are together with her now.  Angels from Heaven revealed the dogma to us, and to deny this dogma of the Ascension maliciously prevents one from entering Heaven.  Although this is a glorious mystery of the Rosary, we cannot help but feel sad at the physical departure of Our Lord.  We may be sorrowful because He left, but we are joyful because of His promised return.  Today Our Lord prepared a place for us in our heavenly home.

Help Us Reach Our Home

Ascension Thursday Morning 2026
This day marks the completion of Our Lord’s work on Earth 2,000 years ago.  The Ascension is the departure of Christ from His Apostles to His place at the right hand of the Father, and it completes the Paschal Mystery.  Our Lord’s Passion and death is renewed at every Mass, and on a feast day such as this, we receive the graces given to the Apostles and disciples.  In reading the Holy Scriptures we read about the persecution of Our Lord’s followers.  Just as they did, we rejoice when we must endure persecution.  Before He departed, Christ rebuked the Apostles for being slow to believe and hard of heart.  Are we better than they?  We always feel a sense of melancholy when the Paschal Candle is extinguished.  The symbol of Our Lord’s physical presence is now gone, but we are destined to be reunited with Him in Heaven.  Those who remain faithful are rewarded on this day.

We Are Called to Serve

5th Sunday After Easter 2026
We are told by St. Bede that the Resurrection of Our Lord is called “Easter” because the name was derived from the Old English “Eostre,” which was the name of a pagan goddess believed to rise from the East.  The adoption of this name was not for the purpose of giving honor to a false deity, but to change false worship into honor given to the one true God.  This is a far cry from the participation in false worship we witness from the hierarchy today.

We must take a real, honest interest in our vocations, which are so important for our salvation, and pray sincerely that God will guide our decisions.  There should be no question in our mind that God is calling each of us to serve Him.  If we are dedicated to sin, our prayers will not be heard, but if we are sincerely dedicated to God, we can be assured that they are answered.  The less we communicate with the world, the more we will hear God.

The Allotted Portion for a Priest

“The Lord is my allotted portion and my cup. He it is Who will restore my inheritance to me.”  It is true that Our Lord takes care of those who trust in Him.  The priesthood does not give joy as the world gives it.  It gives that inner awareness that all is right; that you belong to Someone and He possesses you.  It is the deep realization of the tranquility of order.  A priest is happy in the possession of the good.  It is the beginning of the happiness of Heaven.  The greatest works we can do on Earth only last for a time, but the work of the priest lasts for all time.

The Biblical Easter Celebration

This week we are given the splendid examples of the saintly lives we should imitate in St. Hermenegild, Bl. Margaret of Castello, St. Justin Martyr, St. Benedict Joseph Labre, St. Magnus of Orkney, and St. Anicetus.  We should familiarize ourselves with the details of their lives.

The Apostles were so overjoyed to see Christ risen that they began to wonder if their own excitement was causing them to imagine His presence.  Our Lord asked for food, that He might prove His bodily resurrection.  For St. Mary Magdalen, it was enough to hear her Lord’s voice, but St. Thomas had to put His hand into Our Lord’s side in order to believe.

We reject the so-called “New Synodal Church,” along with its false Divine Mercy devotion.  The Divine Mercy image has no Sacred Heart and no wounds, and it was condemned by the pre-conciliar Church.  We Catholics celebrate the biblical account of what Christ did on this day.

The Providence of the Resurrection

Despite what many Modernists might say, it is a dogma of the Faith that Our Lord rose bodily from the dead. We are greatly blessed to have such a prayerful chapel and beautiful vestments with which to honor Our Lord. We die because of the consequences of sin. In conquering death our Redeemer conquered sin and all those who cause it in the world. Divine Providence is God’s plan for our lives, and that plan includes all the trials and all the blessings. The enemies of Christ can do nothing to hurt us. We enjoy great peace in knowing that Christ has overcome death and sin. If we give ourselves to Him and trust in His grace, we can rest assured that all will end well for us.

Walk In The Newness Of Life

Easter Sunday Morning 2026
The entire liturgical year prepares us for this greatest of all feasts when the Church celebrates the triumph of its beloved Redeemer.  It is fitting that this day falls during the Spring, when all creation appears to be coming forth with new life.  It is because of Easter that Christians recognize the Lord’s Day as Sunday.  We place our joy in a work which is greater than that of creation itself, and we rest on Sunday to commemorate it.  All the faithful recognize the dogma of Christ’s bodily resurrection as the foundation of our Faith.  As St. Paul tells us, “If Christ be not risen again, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain.”  The Apostles gave testimony to this fact by shedding their blood in defense of it.  Now that we have been buried with Christ and have risen in His new life, we must persevere in the practice of virtue and vigorously combat the temptation to return to the slavery of sin.  Like our risen Lord, may we die no more and forever walk in the newness of life.

We Thirst For The Water

We are a liturgical people and during this week we are living the liturgy at its highest level.  Throughout this ceremony we will be taught repeatedly about the mysteries and sacraments.  Unafraid, we go out into the darkness of the devil’s world and ignite the Light of Christ to shine through that darkness.  Holy Mother Church reminds us of the power of the light and the power of the waters.  Because of the doubt of Moses, he was not permitted to lead the people into the Promised Land.  The enemies of the Church cannot make us doubt.  The propaganda of the devil will not succeed.  When the water has been anointed it becomes Christ’s and, after we are sprinkled with His water, we renew the promises of our baptism.  Christ then comes to us in the greatest of the sacraments – the Holy Eucharist.  Tonight we thirst for His arrival.

The Removal of All Doubt

We must put out of our minds all distractions while we attend the Holy Mass, so that we may focus solely on the Son of God Who is sacrificing Himself before our very eyes.  When God was creating the cosmos, He had the future sacrifice of His Son in mind.  Everything the Son of God did was for love of His Father.  God permitted the sinful doubt of St. Thomas the Apostle to assist in the fulfillment of His plan.  We thank St. Thomas for his doubt because due to it, Our Lord proved His bodily resurrection and removed any doubt from our own hearts.  If any man sincerely looks for the truth and prays to God to help him find it, God will surely give it to Him.  Let us imitate the great saints and martyrs of the past in their desire for salvation and remove everything from our lives which stands between us and Heaven.

I Have Overcome the World

Despite what the nonbelievers may say, Our Lord truly and bodily rose from the dead.  Our faith is vain without the Resurrection, because this miracle is the greatest proof that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.  Although no one can see the Divinity of Christ, this act shows that He has power over life and death.  Even in the face of these great wonders, just like the Apostles before us, we must still believe.  This great day is dependent on the victory of the Cross.  We are united to our Divine Redeemer in Baptism, and we will be united with Him in our own resurrection.  In this world we have affliction, but we take courage because He has overcome the world.
