The Lowest of God’s Creatures

16th Sunday after Pentecost 2023
St. Joseph of Cupertino is truly one of the greatest saints.  His holiness and miracles were undeniable.  Our goal should be to speak more frequently with God, because this is prayer.  When we are in the state of grace, we love God more than we love ourselves.  Nothing else matters but love.  Our intellect and will separate us from the animals.  If not for God’s grace we would have no virtue, goodness, or kindness.  We must remember that we are the worst and lowest of God’s creatures.  This is how we gain Heaven.

Do Not Weep

15th Sunday after Pentecost 2023
No other religion has produced saints as the Catholic Church has.  The greatest mark of the Church is her holiness.  Discretion is one of the best ways to practice charity.  It allows us to know when to offer correction and when to simply let our example teach our neighbor.  Charity is the hallmark of a Catholic.  As much as we unwittingly crucify each other we are still bonded together by charity, and nothing stands in the way of charity for a true Catholic.  Our Lord feels the burdens of His people.

God Asks For 100%

1st Friday September 2023
First Friday Conference The Fourteen Holy Helpers have been invoked since the Middle Ages to help with specific needs of the faithful.  St. Augustine is one of the greatest moral and doctrinal theologians in history.  His most famous works are popular even among non-Catholics.  Conversion of life and the mortification of the senses can be extremely difficult.  Temptations can surprise us at any moment and defense against these temptations often takes heroism. It is worth fighting for the things that really matter.  Sensitivity is necessary when practicing charity towards our neighbor.

Don’t Conform To The World

12th Sunday after Pentecost 2023
In the Gospel for today, we see Christ represented as the Good Samaritan – the one Who was rejected by the world.  He is the one Who saves the sinner who has been wounded by the devil.  We are that sinner and we must cry out for salvation.  We are bombarded by propaganda, and for the most part we are unaware.  The world does not want us to be like the Good Samaritan who stands out from the crowd.  The world wants us to conform.  We follow Christ in our love for God and neighbor.

The Perfect Image Of Christ

Feast of Saints Peter & Paul 2023
This day, although it celebrates both apostles, is centered on St. Peter as the first Vicar of Christ on Earth.  God began to form the character of St. Peter from the moment of his birth because the Church was to be built on this man.  The reason He chose St. Peter above all the other Apostles was because he loved Our Lord more than the rest.  The prayers of the faithful saved their first pope so we must pray as if the outcome of the current crisis depends on us.

Soul Of My Soul

Pentecost Sunday 2023
The Jewish feast of Pentecost celebrated the reception of the Old Law, which God gave to Moses.  During the nine days between the Ascension of Our Lord and this feast of Pentecost the apostles prayed the first novena, which was led by the Blessed Mother.  If we wish to progress swiftly in the spiritual life, we must follow the example of the apostles and go to Our Lady.  It is foolish for any priest to rely on his own skills as a preacher because just as it was with the first sermon of St. Peter on this day, it is the Holy Ghost Who moves the hearts of men.

In Se Propter Deum

Sunday After Ascension 2023
First Communion Sunday – We hear about the supremacy of the virtue of charity in today’s Epistle.  It is an infused virtue which allows us to love God as He loves Himself. Many people are egocentric, and the only way they view their neighbor is by his usefulness.  Catholics know that our neighbors are either children of God or are called to be so.   Many people only look at God for what He might give them.  We may only ask for His help, but God asks for our hearts.  We love our neighbor in se propter Deum – in himself for God’s sake.

Season of Consolation

Ash Wednesday 2023
We think of the sins we must avoid but rarely do we think of the virtues we must practice.  How often when we confess, we think of the sins we commit but not the reasons why we commit them.  We forget that all the hardships we face in life are given to us directly by God.  Lent is the season of charity, comfort, and consolation.  Charity unites us to God and it will last for all eternity.  It is charity that gives this season its purpose.  We must use this time to express our sorrow for offending Our Lord, to obtain mercy, and receive the sacrament of Penance.

Join The Sacrifice

Quinquagesima Sunday 2023
This is a time of examination of conscience.  Once our predominant fault is identified, we can battle against it.  At the end of this Septuagesima season, the Church reminds us that we must have Charity.  We should not only go to confession when we are in mortal sin, but often.  This is a great aid in cutting down our vices.  The priest at the “Orate Fratres” asks you to join with him in his sacrifice.  Let us truly join the priest at his Sacrifice at the Altar.

Without Fear, We Are Lost

Septuagesima Sunday 2023
Because of the great importance of the season of Lent, the Church gives us a season to prepare us for it.  We should possess a single-minded vision of achieving salvation.  We share in St. Paul’s desire for be dissolved in Christ, while sharing his fear that we could be lost.  This fear is a necessity.  God wants all our love.  Just as people expect their lover to have no one else, God wants us to love Him alone.  We do not know when God will call us, so we must be always prepared.
