Mother’s Day

Fourth Sunday after Easter 2017

This Mass prepares us for the upcoming feasts of the Ascension and Pentecost when Our Lord returns to heaven and sends the Holy Ghost.  This day is also a secular holiday in which we honor our mothers.  Falling as it does during the month of May our thoughts naturally turn to our heavenly Mother and all that she has done for us.  A tangible sign of this comes under her title of “Queen of Peace” which was added to her litany and soon afterwards led to her apparitions at Fatima and the end of the first World War.

Believe With Confidence

Low Sunday 2017

Low Sunday is the culmination of the eight-day celebration of the Feast of the Resurrection of Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. The term Low is intended to indicate the contrast between it and the great Feast one week earlier of Easter Sunday, certainly the greatest of all liturgical feasts. The Octave Day of Easter is considered part of the feast, though to a lower degree. The entire celebration of Easter is meant to give us confidence that we too can one day share in the same Resurrection of the body if we hold fast to the Truths of Faith and the power of Grace over sin that Our Lord won for us. We must have confidence that our path is right and our goal can and will be achieved.

Resurrection Compels Belief

Easter Sunday 2017

On Easter Sunday St. Paul tells us to purge out the old leaven and that Christ is our Passover.  His rising from the dead still shocks and amazes the modern world as it did in His day. One of the purposes for Our Lord’s Resurrection is as an aid to believe all that He taught and gave us.  It also proves His victory over sin because He overcame its consequence, death.  Easter is the glorious reward for Our Savior’s great work of sacrifice and includes all the merits He has won for us as well.  We too will rise from the dead someday and go to heaven where God has prepared a place for us.  We must have courage and enjoy this feast.

Solemn Liturgical Action

Good Friday 2017

Holy Mother the Church on Good Friday gathers around the Cross to witness the renewal of Christ’s sacrifice during the solemn liturgical action.  This ceremony has the Passion according to St. John, the solemn collects, the adoration of the Cross and culminates with Holy Communion.  Our Mother of Sorrows stands before us as the model so we might become like to Him in death, and in the hope that somehow we may attain to the resurrection from the dead.

Compassionate Mother

Friday in Passion Week 2017 – 1st Friday

The prophecy of Caiphas about the necessity of Christ’s death for the people is an example of how God’s word can even come from the mouth of His enemy.  However, the Friday in Passion Week is especially dedicated to our Mother of Sorrows.  Our Lady stood by the Cross of her Son and suffered with Him.  The Blessed Mother is the example for true friends of Our Savior and she will make them be like her and her Son.

Nothing Is Impossible With God

Feast Of The Annunciation 2017

The Son of God became a Man at the Annunciation and so began His priesthood as the mediator between God and men.  At the same time, Our Lady became the Mother of God.  This could only take place because, as St. Gabriel the Archangel said, “nothing is impossible with God”.  Virginity and Maternity were joined miraculously and the Blessed Mother lived a life of trust in God that made her magnanimous and munificent.  Devotion and imitation of her will enable anyone to overcome any challenge in fulfilling God’s Will.

St. Joseph Is Essential To Redemption

Feast Of St. Joseph 2017

St. Joseph was a holy man who fulfilled the law with devotion and heart-felt piety.  He was chosen to be the spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary and to be the foster-father of the Son of God.  In that capacity he was the image of God the Father.  As the redemption depended on Our Lady’s “Fiat” at the Annunciaton so it was protected by her marriage to St. Joseph and his protection of her and the Holy Infant.

Rule Of Faith

2nd Sunday After Epiphany 2017

St. Paul instructs us in today’s epistle to do all by the Rule of Faith which is the guide that Tradition has over the written word of God.  Faith is paramount in life and essential to enter heaven.  The entire Liturgy was given by Our Lord and the miracle of changing water into wine pre-figured transubstantiation.
