Ave Maris Stella

Feast Of The Assumption 2018
The Assumption is the prerogative of our Blessed Mother which fixes Her in heaven, body and soul, as the Star which leads us home as the Star of the Sea (Stella Maris) did for early sailors.  In the midst of the darkness of this life, we always have the hope of salvation because we see the Blessed Virgin Mary shining glorious and beckoning us to Heaven.  The apparition of Our Lady of the Willow is a heart-warming reminder of Her maternal solicitude for each of us, especially those most in need of her mercy.

The First Novena

Pentecost Sunday 2018
Before the Epistle and Gospel for the feast of Pentecost we hear about St. Gregory VII and St. Philip Neri.  After nine days of prayer from the Ascension the birthday of the Church took place with the coming of the Holy Ghost.  The Person of Love completed the preparation of the apostles for their mission to convert the world to the one Faith and worship through the many charisms including the preaching which enabled all to understand their speech.  O Holy Spirit, Soul of my soul, strengthen me, console me. Amen.

His Heavenly Priesthood

Ascension Thursday Evening 2018
Christ ascended today and began His heavenly priesthood which had begun on earth at the Annunciation.  The sacred Liturgy is the expression of the sacrifice of our Eternal High Priest.  The apostles returned to the Cenacle after the Ascension and gathered around the Blessed Mother to pray and to be one in mind and heart as they awaited the coming of the Holy Ghost.

Tap Into Her Heart

Feast Of The Annunciation 2018
This year the Annunciation is celebrated after Easter.  Our feast recalls the moment when the ever Virgin Mary became the Mother of God.  All the details of this Gospel account took place in her home which is known as the holiest place on earth.  In penetrating this mystery from inside the Blessed Mother, we see how great was her virginal/maternal heart which was so generous, courageous, faithful, trusting and loving.  We, especially the young, should reach into her heart and use these qualities on our road to heaven.

Saint Joseph – Spouse & Father

Conference On Passion Sunday 2018
In this conference we learn about the upcoming feast of St. Joseph.  His greatest titles are Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary and Foster Father of the Son of God.  God the Father entrusted His Divine Son to the care of St. Joseph whose virginal paternity was a perfect image of the Begetting of the Son by the Father.  The true marriage of St. Joseph to Our Lady is the foundation of his relationship through her with Jesus Christ.  He is protector of the Church and universal patron of all our needs.

Purification, Presentation, Procession

Feast Of The Purification 2018
This ancient feast is celebrated today in the same way as Sylvia described the ceremony in the fourth century.  Our Lord and His Mother exercised humility by submitting to the Mosaic laws that did not apply to these sinless Personages.  The Holy Infant was ransomed this day so that He could be offered for our redemption in the future.  Our Lady did not need any purification in order to return to the temple but she identified herself with us sinners.  The first procession took place on this day with Simeon and Anna joining the Holy Family.

Yes, We Believe In You, Lord

2nd Sunday after Epiphany

The time after the Epiphany is a transition from celebrating the Incarnation to beginning to move towards the Redemptive aspect of the liturgical year.  The awareness of God becoming Man is made clear by His manifestation to the Magi, the theophany at the Baptism of Christ and the working of His first miracle during the wedding feast at Cana.  All these elements are contained in the Mass of this Second Sunday after Epiphany and they call on us to respond as the first apostles did when they saw and believed.

Deny Our Lord Nothing

Feast Of The Holy Family 2018

From St. Paul’s Epistle for the feast of the Holy Family we learn about charity and mercy.  We are bound to forgive whenever someone is truly sorry for his offenses against us. The Gospel for this feast is about the finding of Our Lord in the Temple which St. Luke wrote from the recollections of our Blessed Mother.  Christ’s first recorded words when He was twelve years old show His knowledge of His identity as Son of God and His mission to do what His Father commands.  Coming after the Epiphany we learn about the Magi and their star of attraction which led them to the Messias.  We too must be generous and follow Our Savior.

In His Will Is Our Peace

Octave Day of Nativity 2018

The Sacred Liturgy, like nature itself, anticipates great feasts, celebrates them and only gradually leaves them.  So Christmas has its First Vespers, its three Masses and then a week to relish the reality of the Incarnation before renewing the mystery again on its octave day, today.  We also have the recalling of Our Lord’s circumcision on this day when He first shed His Blood for our salvation and we profess our love and devotion to the Blessed Mother for her divine maternity and perpetual virginity.  Today we are grateful for all this and we consign our past to God’s mercy and live in the present moment by God’s grace.  We entrust the future to God’s Providence and use prayer, reflection and counsel to know His signified Will and His Will of good pleasure.  We will achieve the tranquility of order in the coming days by knowing and following God’s plan for us.

Be Humble Like The Baby Jesus

Christmas 2017 Midnight Mass

Against the world’s propaganda, we proclaim the truth of Christmas that the Son of God became man and was born in Bethlehem of the ever Virgin Mary who remained a virgin physically and morally before, during and after the birth of her Son. Christ did this first for the glory of His Father and then to give Himself to us.  This union of the divine and human natures in the Person of the Word is a supreme act of humility that will last for as long as God is God.  As Jesus showed us the way by becoming a little Infant, so we must heed His words that unless we become as little children we will not enter the enter the kingdom of heaven.
