We Will Bless Our Crosses

1st Sunday Of Advent 2019
The feast of St. Nicholas on Friday is a celebration of an heroic early bishop whose acts of charity have been carried on to our day in the figure of Santa Claus.  Advent and the new liturgical year begin today and the Introit of the Mass is an appeal to beg God to protect us from the devil.  The Epistle gives the plan for this season – cast out the works of darkness and put on the armor of light in preparation for Christmas.  The Gospel continues the warning from last week about the end of the world and our facing God’s judgment.  We will be thankful on that day for all the merit gained through our struggles for salvation.

Eternal Rest

All Souls Day 2019
Mother Mary Austin wrote movingly about the Holy Souls in Purgatory and her congregation was dedicated to helping them.  These saved individuals are holy but not perfect yet and fling themselves into Purgatory to be purified before entering God’s presence.  We have the responsibility to pray and to sacrifice for the relief and release of the Holy Souls and especially now when they are ignored and neglected.  Our model in this is the Blessed Mother whom Our Lord entrusted with care of His Church Suffering.

Love Without Reserve

17th Sunday after Pentecost 2019
This Sunday continues the feast of St. Michael and as our statue of him points the way to God so St. Michael has been given to us to protect and to lead us to heaven.  This Mass celebrates the love of the Son of God in coming to earth to save us.  We should love Him in return and this virtue of charity with humility and meekness will help us love our neighbors too.  This month is dedicated to the Holy Rosary and we should honor our heavenly Mother’s request and pray it daily.  It is a contemplative prayer which is powerful for our spiritual life and for the restoration of the Church and the salvation of souls.

Seven Sorrows

14th Sunday after Pentecost 2019
We celebrate wonderful saints at this time of the liturgical year.  This week we have the following: St. Francis and his stigmata, St. Joseph Cupertino, St. Januarius and St. Matthew.  The Epistle for this Mass is a lesson on the spiritual life.  Our Lord stresses the importance of seeking this life in union with Him above all other considerations.  Today we also commemorate the Seven Sorrows of our Blessed Mother and her close participation in the sufferings and death of her Divine Son.

Belief In God Is Not Enough

13th Sunday after Pentecost 2019
This Sunday has a commemoration of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary and later this week is the feast in honor of her name.  The collect prays for an increase of the theological virtues in us while in the epistle St. Paul instructs us on the reception of great gifts from God.  The Gospel shows the power of faith and the obligation to be grateful to God for His gifts to us.  Finally, we must act on our faith because without charity we will end up in hell, despite our belief in God.

Pray Like The Publican

10th Sunday after Pentecost 2019
The Church wants us to recall the special gifts given to it in the early days to help the spread of the Faith.  The Holy Ghost continues to give us graces today.  In the Gospel we are reminded about praying with humility as the publican did.  We should avoid the proud attitude of the pharisee.  The feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary should help us foster devotion to our Heavenly Mother under this title which is so closely tied to the Sacred Heart of her divine Son.

She Reaches Out to Us

Feast Of The Assumption 2019
This is Our Lady’s greatest feast which marks the triumphant conclusion of her life when God took her body and soul into heaven where she reigns today.  This is an ancient feast which requires us to thank God for the Assumption.  We read this in the definition of the dogma by Pope Pius XII on All Saints day 1950.  Our Lady’s thirty days begin today and are special for an increase of piety among the faithful.  Our heavenly Mother stretches her maternal arms out to us to save us from perdition.  We should pray the Memorare or Hail Holy Queen to be brought back.

Concentrate On Heaven

8th Sunday after Pentecost 2019
Have a special devotion to Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart during this month.  The liturgy reminds us of all the graces we receive in God’s house and how we should appreciate it.  One benefit is becoming a child of God and knowing Him as our Father not just as our Creator.  Our Lord warns us in the Gospel to use the material things of the world for those less fortunate then ourselves and He says to imitate the zeal of the pagans not for earthly gains but for heaven itself.

Enkindle The Fire For Heaven

Lynn Burdi Funeral Mass
We miss and will always pray for the deceased who had a love for the traditional Latin Mass and for the Blessed Virgin Mary.  Her rose garden in front of the chapel is the constant reminder of that.  We here who mourn our loss must pray and sacrifice for her to be released from Purgatory if she is there being purified in preparation for her entrance into heaven. The merciful fire that accomplishes this is ignited by our love through the Holy Mass so we must pray fervently for her now and in the future.

Wind and Fire

Pentecost Sunday 2019

The Holy Ghost descended on the Apostles to complete their preparation for the mission entrusted to them to go forth and convert the world.  Even after the Resurrection they had faults which needed to be eliminated so the Paraclete could infuse them with the holiness and gifts necessary for their apostolate.  St. Peter showed how effective this was when he converted 3,000 people that day.  We must follow in their footsteps and renounce self to find union with God.
