We Are the Happiest of Mankind

Sermon from The
1st Sunday of Advent 2012
The Catholic Faith is clear and transparent in its revelation of truth.  The effects of the sacrament of matrimony are the increase of Sanctifying Grace and the special graces to aid in the raising of children.

Once again, as we approach the feast of the Nativity, we are forced to defend the doctrine of the perpetual virginity of the Blessed Mother from the attacks of evil clergy, while those who hold to tradition are accused of heresy.

The beginning of the new liturgical year is a chance for a fresh start.  Our resolution for this year should be the liturgy. We should resolve to be faithful in attending Mass, which is the official prayer of the Church, in addition to reciting faithfully the Rosary.  We are reminded of the fearful signs of the end of time because this fear is the beginning of wisdom.  However, there is a ray of hope in this Gospel account.  In that last day we will lift up our heads for the vindication of the just.

A Godly Fear

Last Sunday after Pentecost 2012

✟Father Violette

Sacramentals are holy objects or actions that the Church makes use of to obtain actual graces for us and forgiveness for our venial sins dependent on our disposition.

We speak of the signs of the end times.  The Man of Sin will deceive many by the wonders he will perform, but at the height of his power Christ will strike him down.  We should be affected by a holy fear when contemplating the end of the world just as we should when thinking of our own end.  As a consequence of original sin, we will all face the four last things: death, judgment, and Heaven or Hell.  Faced with our eternal judgment, we rely on God’s mercy and depend on all those things God has given us to make us holy.

Bear with One Another in Charity

24th Sunday after Pentecost 2012
10am Mass

Living with our fellow man is always difficult.  Remembering the numerous occasions in which we knowingly or unknowingly afflict our neighbor will make it far easier to endure his shortcomings.  Charity is the bond of perfection because when we possess it we love God more than we love ourselves.  We go to God as He is in Himself and surrender ourselves, seeking to be united to Him.  Without charity all the other virtues are worthless, because they are all so many modes of expressing divine love.  God has loved us first, and by expressing our love for Him we only return the love He has given us.

In this parable of the weeds, we are given a bleak look into the life of the Church.  We have the explanation of this parable from the words of Christ Himself.  It is a prophetic story about the evil to be found within the Church especially among the clergy.  However, these trials can also bring out the very best in the faithful who courageously stand against the incursions of the devil.

Joy Amidst Suffering

Conference On Purgatory
1st Friday November 2012
The Holy Souls in Purgatory experience eviternity, or what is called discontinuous time, which is that time which measures the change in a soul.  God lives in a reality independent of time, and one might say that the souls in Purgatory live in a reality between time and eternity.  If one dies without being completely prepared, the presence of God would be too intense for the soul to endure.  It must first be purified completely before seeing God, and this is the reason for Purgatory.  The joy experienced in Purgatory is like the joy of Heaven amidst suffering.

We Will Overcome Our Enemies

23rd Sunday after Pentecost 2012

We should be galled by those who call into question the perpetual virginity of the Blessed Mother.  Only a diabolical mind could invent this attack.  The devotion of the five first Saturdays makes up for the assaults on the dogmas of the Immaculate Conception, the perpetual virginity, and the divine maternity.  When we cast our vote for elected officials, we must ensure it is not stained with the blood of any innocent life.  The so-called “pro-life” leaders have been responsible for the murder of more children than their opponents.  The woman in this Gospel account merely touched the tassel of Our Lord’s garment and she was healed.  We too come in contact with Christ and are cured through the sacramentals and indulgences of the Church.

Our Glimpse of Heaven

Sermon From The
Feast Of All Saints 2012
We recall the great doctrine of the communion of saints while celebrating the Church Triumphant today.  The feast originated when the relics of the martyrs were removed from the catacombs and were brought in triumphal procession to be placed in the Pantheon, now consecrated to the Blessed Mother and all the martyrs.  There are far more saints than those we are able to celebrate throughout the year, so this feast is for all those other saints, both known and unknown.  In the liturgy we are given a glimpse of the Lamb of God surrounded by all His saints and angels.  At every Mass we practice the adoration which we will perform for all eternity in Heaven.  Our goal is to join all the saints of the Heavenly court along with our Divine Savior Who calls us to come to Him on this holy day.

He Reigns Despite His Enemies

Christ the King 2012

There are so many people in the world who sincerely wish to participate in a feast like today but are not able.  We should be all the more grateful that we have been given this privilege.  As the liturgical year comes to its conclusion, representing the end of time, this feast reminds us that on that final day all nations will be compelled to recognize the supreme dominion of Christ over the entire world and stands as a warning to all those who refuse to do so now.  The feast of All Saints celebrates those who were loyal subjects to their King during this life.  This feast was meant to combat secularism, which is so widespread in our society.  The “state” has taken the place of God in our world.  However, religion is not a private matter, and it is of the very nature of man to practice religion, and publicly so.  Christ is King because He is God and deserves our obedience and adoration.  Christ is also man and through His Grace of Headship He unites all creation in His very being.  It is through glorifying our King we gain our ultimate happiness.

The Law of Charity and Mercy

Sermon on the
21st Sunday after Pentecost 2012
✟Father Violette
Once one is baptized, he falls under the jurisdiction of the Church in regard to his marriage. He is no longer able to simply marry with a natural bond as an unbaptized person. For a person to receive the graces of matrimony he must be in the state of Sanctifying Grace.

The Church repeats the lessons Our Lord taught so we may follow them to our everlasting home. When we are full of pride we will show little forgiveness to our neighbor. Although we are not strictly required to forgive those who are not sorry, the example of the saints encourages us to do so. God shows mercy to us to the very moment of our death; it is only our refusal to be contrite that prevents us from receiving that mercy.

Simplicity and the Holy Rosary

Sermon From
19th Sunday After Pentecost 2012
Great merit may be achieved in this life, not necessarily based on how notable the acts performed are in themselves, but due to the state of soul of the one who performs them.  One must be childlike in his soul – humble, trusting, obedient, loving, and simple.  Simplicity is one of the characteristics of the saints.  They did not over analyze every aspect of their relationship with God or project their desires and aspirations onto Him.  Our ideas of Who God is and what sanctity consists of must be given up when they act as an obstacle to true union.  True spiritual life requires a renunciation of our own opinions, everything else must be rooted in the Holy Scripture and doctrine.

The Holy Rosary should be carried by every Catholic and prayed daily.  It is the true sign, in the eyes of the world, of a Catholic.  The Blessed Mother asks that we perform our daily duties, accept our crosses with alacrity, and pray the Rosary, which unites us to the liturgy.

The Saints and Angels

Sermon From The
18th Sunday after Pentecost 2012
St. Jerome was an extraordinarily learned man, especially in the fields of rhetoric and language. Pope St. Damasus commissioned him to translate the entirety of the Bible into Latin. To this day the translation of St. Jerome, known as the Vulgate, is considered the official scriptural translation of the Catholic Church.

St. Francis of Assisi is one of the most beloved saints of the Church. After hearing the words of the Gospel preached in a sermon, he renounced his inheritance and worldly possessions and dedicated his life to God. Although he is mistakenly viewed as a saint of ecology, he only wrote so beautifully about the natural world because of the gift of knowledge, which he possessed to a great degree. This mystic gift enables a soul to see the emptiness of the world except for its expression of God’s glory.

The feast of the Holy Guardian Angels celebrates all those angels that are given to us from birth to watch over and protect us. We should frequently speak and pray to our Guardian angels. In the Gospel of that Mass, Our Lord warns against the sin of scandal. We are called to avoid evil and the appearances of evil. The clergy and parents in particular must be on guard against this terrible sin.
