Priestly Ordinations

During the ordination ceremony, it is as if Heaven is opening as our Divine Savior unites with the ordinands and fuses them to His priestly Nature.  From that moment, the new priests are able to offer the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, to renew all the divine mysteries of the Faith through the liturgy, to forgive sin, to govern, to teach, to baptize, to bring souls to Heaven.  The priest is called Father because he provides life to the people and spiritually nourishes them.  The Laity should look at the priest and see the likeness of Christ.  By the physical transformation of the soul through Holy Orders, for all eternity, the priest is now a relative – a brother – of Our Lord.

Nourished By The Sacred Heart

Feast of The Sacred Heart 2025

Although this feast was only added to the universal calendar within the last few hundred years, its origins go back to the Incarnation itself.  How fitting this year that this feast falls on the feast of Our Mother of Perpetual Help, in whose womb Christ’s Heart first began to beat.  A new devotion was necessary to combat false Christianity and Jansenism.  This devotion of the Sacred Heart was reserved for our latter times, when the love of the world has grown cold.  The propagation of the Sacred Heart devotion faced great opposition, even from Catholic bishops and priests.  Jesus Christ’s Sacred Heart not only moved His Precious Blood throughout His Body but represents His love for all of us.  As was seen in the apparition to St. Margaret Mary, in the wound of the Heart of Christ was written the word “caritas,” meaning “love.”  His Heart remains forever in the Holy Eucharist to sustain and nourish us.  We must not be passive on this day; His love obliges us to love Him in return.

Have We Rejected the Invitation?

2nd Sunday after Pentecost 2025
The so-called “Theology of the Body” is contrary to the Churches teaching.  We know from Our Lord’s own words that there will be no marriage in Heaven.  During the summer we must remember that are bodies are temples of the Holy Ghost, and we must practice modesty.
The priest wears the liturgical color of green because this season is full of hope.  There is a great feast set for us, but it is up to us to partake.  God generously invites us but if we are “too busy” then He will invite those more worthy.  When witnessing the devotion of those who have recently discover the Latin Mass, we should ask ourselves if we appreciate it as they do. The Holy Eucharist and the Sacred Heart are the great antidotes to tepidity.

A Necessary Feast

Feast of Corpus Christi 2025
Our Lord Himself expressed the need for the institution of this feast.  It was necessary from both a liturgical point of view and for the spiritual life of all the faithful.  We are unable to celebrate properly this greatest of all sacraments on Holy Thursday, because it is overshadowed by the sorrow of Christ’s Passion.  At the beginning of our spiritual journey following the feast of Pentecost, this day points us to the greatest aid we are given to achieve our last end – the Blessed Sacrament.  We are brought into the Faith because of the Holy Eucharist, we grow in the Faith because of It, and receiving Holy Communion is the promise of our future glory.  This sacrament, like the manna from Heaven, strengthens us throughout that arduous sojourn in the desert of our lives.

In The Presence Of The Trinity

Trinity Sunday 2025
When we recall the words of Christ, “I have come to do the Will of My Father,” we need only look at the crucifix to see the love God the Father has for us.  He was willing to sacrifice His Son to save us.  We are privileged to know about the mystery of the Holy Trinity, which we could not know without God revealing it to us.  Although most of the Bible does not speak of it directly, belief in this dogma has been handed down through Sacred Tradition.  This mystery was revealed to us because we are meant to live every day in the presence of the Trinity, constantly contemplating Him dwelling within our souls.  We cannot reason to the existence of the Holy Trinity, because it requires faith.  It is only after making this act of faith that we can express our love for our Triune God.

The Birthday of the Church

Pentecost Sunday 2025
The Holy Ghost is often referred to as the “forgotten Person of the Trinity.”  However, without Him we would have no Church.  When Our Lord died on the Cross all the merits He won remained within Him, and it was only when He opened the gates of Heaven that all those merits could be shared with us.  All that He won is dispensed to us during the visible reign of the Holy Spirit.  Today the Church made its first physical appearance in the world.  The Apostles gathered with the Virgin Mary in the Upper Room, where the first Mass had been offered, and prayed for nine days in preparation for the coming of the Holy Ghost.  A miraculous wind drew crowds of thousands to the very first church.  The appearance of the tongues of fire expressed the consuming fire of God’s love.  The ultimate gift of the Holy Ghost is for each of us to be filled with the very love God has for Himself.

His Temporary Absence

The Church is filled with joy on this day, because of Our Lord’s glorious entry into Heaven and because our human nature, hypostatically united to the Son of God, now sits at the right hand of the Father.  However, despite the great joy, the Apostles surely felt some sadness at the departure of their Lord and Redeemer.  We feel the same way during those moments in our spiritual journey when we no longer receive consolations and Our Lord seems far from us.  It is only by our passage through these purifications that our love of God may be tried, purified, and perfected.  Today God calls us to our heavenly Home.

The Ever-Ascending Prayer

Ascension Thursday Morning 2025
During these forty days following the Resurrection, Our Lord appeared to all his disciples.  After He gave them His command to preach to the world, He ascended into Heaven.  Throughout the Gospels, the cloud is the symbol of the Holy Ghost, and when the cloud took Our Lord out of their sight it was as if the Holy Ghost was embracing Him, welcoming Him home.  Our Lord with His human nature and all His wounds is even now sitting at the right hand of the Father, perpetually praying for us.  We read in the Postcommunion about these “visible mysteries.”  In the liturgy, “mystery” is a synonym for “sacrament.”  The virtue that we need most in this age of crisis is hope, because the devil is forever trying to discourage us.  Today is the feast of hope.

Pray In My Name

Although Memorial Day is a secular holiday, every Catholic should remember those who courageously gave their lives in service of our country and pray for them on that day.

This Mass commands us to pray in the name of Our Lord, and we fulfill this command through the liturgy.  We should pay special attention to the prayers of today’s Mass.  The maniple was not originally a vestment of the priest.  In ancient times, so many priests needed a handkerchief during the liturgy, because they were moved to tears, that the handkerchief became an official vestment.  St. James the Less reminds us to be a doer of the word, not a hearer only.  He was the cousin of Our Lord, and he is chosen to teach us the truths of the Faith during Paschaltide.  We remember this month that the Blessed Mother is Queen of Heaven and Earth, let us treat her as such.

The Support of the Church

4th Sunday after Easter 2025

The Church would not be able to distribute its spiritual blessings to us without our support.  A Mass stipend is not a payment for the Mass, but merely a gesture of gratitude and a donation for the daily sustenance of the priest.

This week we recall the lives of Saints Bernadine of Siena and Rita of Cascia.  St. Bernadine fought tirelessly against the vice of gambling, as well as witchcraft and sins of impurity, while St. Rita lived a life of heroic virtue as a wife, mother, widow, and Augustinian nun.  She is the saint invoked for impossible causes.

In the Epistle for today’s Mass, St. James speaks of the source of our consolation and reminds us that we are the greatest creation of the Holy Trinity.  We must remain pure and meek as we cast out all evil from our lives.
