Invincible Weapons

21st Sunday After Pentecost 2019
In the Gospel we learn that we are tied together because the man is cast in prison and his wife and children are sent there with him.  We also see the mercy of God and the consequences of not showing mercy to one another.  The Epistle reminds us that we are engaged in a spiritual battle and need to use our heavenly arsenal to wage war on the devil and his minions.  Prayer is key and the desire for holiness is a sure sign of victory.

Put On The New Man

19th Sunday after Pentecost 2019
Beginning with the words of the Introit we are given peace in the midst of whatever tribulations we experience.  St. Paul in the Epistle tells us that by Baptism we are no longer in sin and must live a new life of grace.  All previous lying, stealing and refusing to work must be abandoned.  Our new life should reach to the control of anger so we only use it when necessary and for good reason.  This state of grace is seen in the Gospel as represented by the wedding garment.  Without this we cannot be saved.  With grace we can show our gratitude to God and rejection of sin, even venial sin.

Eyes That See What We See

12th Sunday after Pentecost 2019
This beautiful Mass of the Good Samaritan encourages us because, even if we are almost dead in sin, Christ will heal us through His sacraments of oil and wine.  The angels admire us for receiving Our Lord in Holy Communion.  Besides the sacraments we need to pray.  Without prayer, especially mental prayer, and spiritual reading we are prey to impurity.  Many saints are our examples of holiness and the striving to obtain it, especially by always keeping our death in front of our eyes.

Pray Like The Publican

10th Sunday after Pentecost 2019
The Church wants us to recall the special gifts given to it in the early days to help the spread of the Faith.  The Holy Ghost continues to give us graces today.  In the Gospel we are reminded about praying with humility as the publican did.  We should avoid the proud attitude of the pharisee.  The feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary should help us foster devotion to our Heavenly Mother under this title which is so closely tied to the Sacred Heart of her divine Son.

Noli Timere

9th Sunday after Pentecost
We must never be afraid because Our Lord said “I am with you all days.”  He told us to pray without ceasing because prayer is so powerful and tied to His mercy.  The Epistle and Gospel warn us not to show ingratitude and indifferentism in the face of God’s goodness.  The Gospel in particular stresses the importance of not neglecting the smallest moment of grace lest we not recognize it and mourn the time of our visitation.

Concentrate On Heaven

8th Sunday after Pentecost 2019
Have a special devotion to Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart during this month.  The liturgy reminds us of all the graces we receive in God’s house and how we should appreciate it.  One benefit is becoming a child of God and knowing Him as our Father not just as our Creator.  Our Lord warns us in the Gospel to use the material things of the world for those less fortunate then ourselves and He says to imitate the zeal of the pagans not for earthly gains but for heaven itself.

Take Your Cross And Follow

7th Sunday after Pentecost 2019
The Church reminds us today to avoid sin.  If not we will be subject to punishment.  Our Lord uses a parable that everyone can understand.  He equates false religious leaders to the tree that brings forth bad fruit and that we can judge by those fruits.  God is always looking after us by His Divine Providence and nothing is left to chance.  He sees every detail of our lives and allows all for our ultimate goal of happiness with Him in heaven.

Our Lord’s Retreat

6th Sunday after Pentecost 2019

The Gospel has us join the Supreme Retreat Master as He conducts a three day retreat with over 4,000 people.  The intensity of the conferences was such that fasting and praying were done effortlessly under Our Lord’s gentle direction.  He then fed them miraculously at its conclusion so they were strengthened for their return to their daily lives.  What a beautiful goal for each of us to strive after by scheduling time for our own retreats with the Master.  Today is also the first Holy Communion for our convert and such a wonderful day to receive Jesus Christ for the first time.

Love Of God And Neighbor

5th Sunday after Pentecost 2019
The Church begins our sanctification now with the reminder that our love of God is shown by our love of our neighbor.  This is so important that Our Lord instructs us to delay even prayer and public worship so we can first reconcile with our brother when necessary.  How we do this requires prayer, reception of the sacraments and a generous response to the inspirations of the Holy Ghost.  By this we turn our hearts and affections from this world to the invisible treasures of heaven.

Humility Turns Men Into Angels

3rd Sunday after Pentecost 2019
Although some might think it unbecoming for God to become a man, Our Lord chose this path to teach us humility.  All the saints excelled in this virtue and without it we cannot be saved.  Pride is the characteristic vice of Luther and all those who are lost.  Even in daily life people do not like those who are proud.  Some wonder why bad people prosper while the good suffer in this life.  The good are given the opportunity to imitate Christ and gain merit for heaven while the evil are given a reward in this life for whatever good they do because they cannot receive any reward in hell.  Practice humility and be assured of heaven.
