The Co-Redemption Is Not Foolishness

Seven Sorrows Of The Blessed Virgin Mary 2021
This is an apologetic against calling the Co-redemption foolishness because it offends against the Faith and personal devotion.  The teaching that Our Lord, Who did not need any assistance in saving the world, deliberately chose to have His Blessed Mother participate in His redemptive act is proximate to Faith and so must be believed and loved by Catholics in order to reach heaven.   St. Pius X and Benedict XV were recent popes who taught this clearly from quotes we have in their encyclicals.  These show the doctrine and explain the difference between the redemption by Christ out of justice and that co-redemption by Our Lady congruently.  To deny or demean this imperils one’s eternal destiny.  On the personal side, this devotion to the ever Virgin Mary under the title of Co-Redemptrix and Mother of Sorrows made Father’s spiritual life deeply attached to her and led him to dedicate his priesthood to her under this aspect.  Many events of his life show this and call for this defense of our heavenly Queen.

Our Mother Of Perpetual Help

Seven Sorrows Of The Blessed Virgin Mary 2020
Our Lord addressed His Mother as “Woman” from the Cross as a title of reverence and honor but also a reminder of Eve, the first woman, who was mother of the living.  Our Lady is Mother of all those alive with sanctifying grace.  Today recalls her seven principal sorrows which earned for her the title of Co-Redemptirx and her place by our side while we struggle in the valley of tears.  Her great privileges of the Immaculate Conception, Assumption and their source her Divine Maternity elevate her to the heights where she belongs but her sorrows join her to us, her poor suffering children.  Her miraculous image, known as the Mother of Perpetual Help, shows her suffering at our indifference to her young Son fleeing from the angels who are showing Him the instruments of His Passion.  The Blessed Mother looks at us to compassionate Him.  We must learn to live as She did so we can rejoice with her in heaven one day.

Seven Sorrows

14th Sunday after Pentecost 2019
We celebrate wonderful saints at this time of the liturgical year.  This week we have the following: St. Francis and his stigmata, St. Joseph Cupertino, St. Januarius and St. Matthew.  The Epistle for this Mass is a lesson on the spiritual life.  Our Lord stresses the importance of seeking this life in union with Him above all other considerations.  Today we also commemorate the Seven Sorrows of our Blessed Mother and her close participation in the sufferings and death of her Divine Son.

Be Our Salvation

Feast Of The Seven Sorrows 2018
The feast of the Seven Sorrows of the Blessed Mother recalls the chief times in her life that she felt the weight of being Co-Redemptrix.  The Mass Sequence emphasizes how much closer Our Lady is to Holy Trinity because her intercessory power enables her to make our prayers be answered rather than simply passing our requests onto God as the rest of the saints do.  Her tears unite with the Sacred Heart and add merit to the Church’s treasury.

A Feast Full Of Emotion

Seven Sorrows of the Blessed Virgin Mary 2017

Our Lady’s seven sorrows do not encompass all that She suffered during Her life but these are the important ones which prepared Her to be our Compassionate Mother.  The reverse of the Miraculous Medal, which was given us by our Heavenly Queen, is a link to this devotion of Our Lady of Sorrows.  The description of the medal bears this out and the Immaculate Conception, which is the medal’s official title and what is depicted on the obverse of the medal, is the necessary prerequisite for the creation of a worthy Mother of the Redeemer and a worthy Co-Redemptrix.  The Mass and office for today’s feast makes us realize these truths with much emotional force.  The concluding and moving personal story about this devotion is a beautiful and fitting testimony to its essential role in our lives.

Way Of The Mother

Feast Of The Seven Sorrows Of The Blessed Virgin Mary 2016

Fr. Superior mentions in today’s Epistle how Judith saves the Jewish people from the terrible Holifernes. She is a type of Our Holy Mother saving us from the terrible clutches of Satan.  He then recalls briefly the Seven Sorrows of the Blessed Virgin.   Fr. Superior makes  an analogy in describing how we must embrace our own sorrows in life as a kind of “Tuition for Life.”  He describes Our Holy Mother in her role as Co-redemptrix of the Human Race and how Our Lord, while on the Cross, gave Her to us to be our solace and our hope as we pay our “Tuition for Life.”   Most especially are we to remember that with the Cross we have already won as long as we accept and embrace it in our lives.
