Ignorance Attacked

Septuagesima Sunday 2018
This talk after Mass begins with the reasons for arming the faithful against the pernicious innovations that they face today.  Then the Gospel for Septuagesima Sunday is explained.  The parable about the hiring of workers to go into the field is the story of how Christ through His Church seeks to save souls.  First there is the invitation which is a divine power to follow Our Lord.  This impulse can come at anytime in life, even at the eleventh hour. Once accepted the recipient of this grace must correspond to it and work out his salvation.  Heaven is earned through cooperating with the actual graces God sends us.

Remission Of Temporal Punishment

First Friday December 2017

In this conference, the beautiful and consoling teaching of the Church on Indulgences is explained.  Beginning with the early Church we see how the treasury of merits won by Christ, His Blessed Mother and the saints was opened for the benefit of sinners.  The errors of the Reformation in distorting this doctrine are touched upon and practical steps are given to avail ourselves of Indulgences in our daily lives.

The Sanctuary

18th Sunday after Pentecost  2017

The story of the paralytic shows Christ’s power to forgive sins and encourages all sinners to seek mercy, even through ones friends.  Our chapel tour continues with the explanation of the Beatitudes as the hallmarks of holiness.  An in depth study of the sanctuary tells of its different features and the meaning of these fulfillments of the Old Testament’s Holy of Holies.

Avoid The Devil’s Contagion

17th Sunday after Pentecost 2017

The Church begins to prepare us for the end of the liturgical year with this Mass which reminds us of judgment.  The Gospel gives the great commandments of the Law: love of God and neighbor, and the importance of faith in God Incarnate.  St. Paul reminds us to express our charity by promoting peace.  The enemy to all this is the devil which the Collect prays that we avoid his evil influences.

Seek Peace And Pursue It

5th Sunday after Pentecost 2017

The season after Pentecost is the time for sanctity.  We should grow in love of God and of neighbor (which is the measure of love of God).  Today’s Mass warns against the obstacle that anger presents in accomplishing this goal. Although a natural passion, anger easily becomes inordinate and sinful because of the effects of original sin.  Combating the first motions of anger will turn us from this vice and then we should turn to prayer instead and gain the peace that comes from a holy life.

We Are Children Of The Promise

Laetare Sunday 2017

We have reached the middle of Lent and we rejoice at this point and continue to persevere. We receive graces as the chosen ones and we must not postpone our conversion. As the people in today’s Gospel, we will follow Our Lord for the beautiful teachings He gives us and for the miracle of the loaves and fishes.

Pray To Be Saved

21st Sunday after Pentecost 2016

In today’s gospel the Master of the House forgave a debt owed by the servant which was far in excess of his ability to pay.  But that servant went out and demanded that one of his debtors repay a much smaller dept and showed no mercy in the process.  So, the Master handed the first servant over to the torturers until he paid all that was due.  Is this what will happen to us at the Last Judgment because we do not show Mercy and Forgiveness to those who have hurt us?  Indeed, we are told that we must love our enemies and do good to those who hurt us because as the Lord’s Prayer says:  …”forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.”   Implicit in this message is the fact that we must pray in order to be saved because it is unlikely that one who does not pray will show mercy and forgiveness to others.

Love Never Fails

Sermon From
All Souls Day 2013
This beautiful Mass for the Holy Souls in Purgatory has its own sequence entitled “Dies Irae” which means the Day of Wrath.  It is a warning to the living of the judgments of God but ends with hope of happiness in heaven.  Today is proof that the debt for our forgiven sins can be removed and that Divine Love has in fact created Purgatory for that purpose.  Obstacles still persist in the soul after death and impede our entrance into glory.  These can and will be removed by a purification that severs souls from anything that still holds them from ascending.  What do non-Catholics do in the face of death?  Our consoling doctrine can teach them about God’s merciful love.

Joy Amidst Suffering

Conference On Purgatory
1st Friday November 2012
The Holy Souls in Purgatory experience eviternity, or what is called discontinuous time, which is that time which measures the change in a soul.  God lives in a reality independent of time, and one might say that the souls in Purgatory live in a reality between time and eternity.  If one dies without being completely prepared, the presence of God would be too intense for the soul to endure.  It must first be purified completely before seeing God, and this is the reason for Purgatory.  The joy experienced in Purgatory is like the joy of Heaven amidst suffering.
