Sermon On Passion Sunday 2013 Father Violette✟ All creation reflects the glory of God, however, angels and men, because of their freewill, have the obligation to acknowledge and worship their Creator. We must pray humbly, perseveringly, and confidently.
The Church veils the statues of the saints, those objects of consolation, because we are meant to focus on Christ alone, and on the sufferings He endured for our sins. We tend to blame our sufferings on the sins of others, but in truth, we experience the consequences of our own sins as much as those of our neighbor. We are the ones condemning Our Lord to suffer and die. We should rebuke ourselves severely for neglecting attendance at Mass, when we are able to do so. Sermon From 4th Sunday In Lent – Laetare Sunday 2013 We pray for the election of a holy pope, which is so necessary in these times of unprecedented crisis in the Church. Although we have little confidence in any natural means to accomplish this desire, we place our hope in God and His divine intervention.
This is one of the two days when rose, the liturgical color of mitigated joy, is used. It is also called the “Day of the Golden Rose.” On this day a papal procession carried a golden rose, which had been blessed and placed on the altar during the Mass, and gifted this rose to a certain Catholic monarch as a sign of the pope’s favor.
We are given a foretaste of the pleasure and joy of Eternal beatitude with every reception of the Holy Eucharist. How many people join the Catholic Church for the simple reason that they desire to be intimately united to Christ in this sacrament?
Every part of the Bible is true, but we must remember that it can be interpreted in the literal, the applied and the typical sense. Events of the New Testament are foreshadowed by the events of the Old Testament. The readings of the Divine Office this week give an example of the typical sense of Holy Scripture in Moses, who foreshadows Our Lord in our redemption. #20130310
Sermon From 3rd Sunday of Lent 2013 Our faith in the Blessed Trinity and in our Redemption are expressed by making the Sign of the Cross. This simple act can win innumerable graces for us, and stir up in our souls sentiments of faith, hope, and charity. When we remember how much Our Lord has suffered for us, we should be inspired to suffer for Him. We see how valuable our soul is in the eyes of our Creator, Who went to such lengths to save us. The early Fathers of the Church offer numerous references to the Sign of the Cross being made by Christians, and they describe the deep meaning contained in the ancient gesture.
The devil attempts to impede our spiritual progress by distractions and temptations, but our rule of life is to do the Will of God. We should never imagine that we are safe from demonic attacks. #20130303S
Sermon From The 2nd Sunday in Lent 2013 Today the faithful gather at the stational church of the Blessed Mother, so that we might be encouraged by the liturgy. If we are being attacked, that means we are on the right path. These three Apostles were chosen to glimpse the Divine because they were to witness the sufferings of Christ in Gethsemane. God desires our sanctification, but we must avoid the vice of impurity which captures more souls than any other. 1st Sunday of Lent 2013 How can souls reach Heaven if they are not taught to pray? Unfortunately, during these times of great crisis in the Church, there are Catholics who cannot even recite the Lord’s Prayer. We should always remember when making the Sign of the Cross that we invoke the Holy Trinity.
The power of this season is acknowledged even by the world, although the world will never understand it. We pray that the ashes we received will be a remedy for all those who implore the Holy Name of Jesus. #20130217K
The liturgical year reflects the life of Christ, and we now reach the fruition of His earthly life with the approach of Holy Week. All the images are veiled to remove all consolations so that we may better unite with the desolation Christ endured in those moments. The great mystic, Josefa Menéndez, received visions of Purgatory and Hell. Our Lord spoke of these punishments of the next life very often. Sister Josefa frequently spoke of the inability of the lost souls to love, and that if even the slightest act of love were permitted it would no longer be Hell. She saw that a soul which had gone to great lengths to deprive and mortify itself on Earth would not endure the sufferings of Hell. We should have an undying fear of this eternal punishment, practice the virtue of hope, and respond to the continual graces God offers. #20120325K
Sermon From 4th Sunday In Lent – Laetare Sunday 2012 This day marks the midpoint of Lent, so it is important to renew our spirit of penance for this season. If we desire to come in contact with Our Lord, we must inter into the waters of Baptism. This is why the fish has been used from ancient times as a symbol of the Holy Eucharist, because one must enter into the water to obtain the “flesh of the sea.” Like St. Peter who walked on the sea to reach Christ, through Baptism we are able to receive Our Lord in Holy Communion.
Too few Catholics know how to pray correctly. Our Lord cannot resist our prayers when they come from the soul. We may reach such a degree of prayer that we remain always recollected in the presence of God.
The Gospel readings from the previous week remind us how grateful we should be that our judgment is in the hands of such a loving Lord.
In the sacrament of Extreme Unction, the priest anoints the organs of the senses, the eyes, ears, hands, etc., in order to prepare the dying individual for Heaven. He prays that any sins committed through the senses may be wiped away. This sacrament is for those in proximate danger of death, and it restores health to the soul and sometimes to the body of the recipient.
Few of us want to face the consequences of sin, but today the Church urges us to do just that. This season began with the temptation of Christ, in which Our Lord showed Himself attacked by the devil when He was weak from fasting. We too should be on guard against the devil’s influence, which can affect us in many ways. #20120311V
2nd Sunday of Lent 2012 All Catholics have a serious obligation to know the catechism. Our Lord made infinite satisfaction for the sins of mankind by His sufferings and death, and these merits, along with the superabundant merits of the Blessed Mother and the saints, are available to us in the Treasury of the Church. By practicing works to which indulgences have been attached, we may remove the temporal punishment due to our forgiven sins. Although the doctrine of indulgences is often condemned, because of past abuses in the use of indulgences, it is nevertheless a beautiful and salutary truth of the Faith.
Many deny the existence of Hell or the fact that souls are punished there, but we have just as much certainty of these truths as we do of the existence of God Himself. It is necessary to believe that God rewards the good and punishes the evil. He gives us all sufficient grace to love Him, and it is up to us to do so. #20120304S
