Do Not Be Distracted

Palm Sunday 2018
Palm Sunday is an encapsulation of all of Holy Week as the triumph of the Resurrection is seen with the entry of Our Lord into the Holy City and the sacrifice of the Cross in the Passion.  We must not waste this week nor be distracted.  We can win souls to Christ by imitating the virtues Jesus showed on this day: humility, meekness and obedience.

Easter Vigil 2017

The Easter Vigil begins with the Feast of Light in dispelling the darkness of sin.  The next part of the ceremony is about Baptism and renewal of vows and finally we have the Mass.  The central doctrine of Easter is the Resurrection of Our Lord and His overcoming of evil and death.  We renew our Faith and rejoice in Christ’s glorious Resurrection.

Solemn Liturgical Action

Good Friday 2017

Holy Mother the Church on Good Friday gathers around the Cross to witness the renewal of Christ’s sacrifice during the solemn liturgical action.  This ceremony has the Passion according to St. John, the solemn collects, the adoration of the Cross and culminates with Holy Communion.  Our Mother of Sorrows stands before us as the model so we might become like to Him in death, and in the hope that somehow we may attain to the resurrection from the dead.

Love

Holy Thursday 2017

Holy Thursday can be summed up in one word: Love.  This Divine-Human love in the Sacred Heart gave us the Holy Eucharist, the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass and the Holy Priesthood today.  True Catholics love all these sacred things in return and follow Our Lord’s command to love one another.  Finally, we appreciate the cost of this love to Our Savior and what we do in reparation.

Catholic True Worship

Palm Sunday 2017

Palm Sunday encompasses all of the Mysteries of Holy Week in one singular devotion.  It begins with an exclamation of Joy as Christ enters Jerusalem as Savior and King, turns to profound sorrow as He undergoes His Passion and Death, and the culminates in Joy again at His Resurrection.  Since it is in the nature of Man to worship, recalling these events allows us to worship in a deep and meaningful way as our God and His Church intends.

Know The Mystery Of The Cross

Exaltation of the Holy Cross 2016

The Exaltation of the Holy Cross is a most ancient, historical and Catholic feast.  Making the Sign of the Cross marks us as Catholics. Constantine’s victory through the Cross led to the conversion of pagan Rome to Christianity.  His mother, St. Helen, discovered the true Cross and centuries later the emperor, Heraclius, recovered it from the Persians and returned it to Jerusalem.  The Cross is consecrated by Christ’s Blood and is the sign of His love. We enter into His sufferings and death through the Cross so to triumph with Christ in heaven.

Meditation On The Resurrection

Easter Vigil 2016

What does it mean for us to say: Christ rose from the dead?  It means that He finally and once and for all overcame Death and gave us a hope for our own resurrection if we stay true to His words.  This awesome act of the Son of God, the Second Person of the Blessed Trinity, is the most profound and stupendous act in all of human history and the symbols of the Fire, Paschal Candle, Holy Water that He left us are meant to give us a glimpse of the compassion Jesus has for us as we travel the road set for us when He said to His disciples: “I will not leave you orphans.”  It is important also that we remember the large number of people who give testimony to this Event – that it was not just a story or fable of some kind but that it really happened.

Take Up Your Cross Daily

Good Friday 2016

This sermon is about why we call Good Friday, Good?   When we see how Our Lord was treated – how he was scourged, beaten, crowned with thorns, and cursed we find ourselves asking: “how can this be Good”?  It is for us a bittersweet moment because we know that unless Our Lord fulfilled the wish of His Father, we could not be saved.  The tremendous value of Our Lord’s Passion and Death, Death on the Cross, is a reminder to us that He can bring Good out of the most heinous Evil.  It is also a way for us to recall that suffering can be beneficial to us if we offer it up to God for our sins.

My Little White Guest

Holy Thursday 2016

This sermon is all about Agape which is that selfless, sacrificial, unconditional Love, which Jesus has first for His Father and then for us.  It is the Love that He demonstrated on Holy Thursday when He told his disciples, “I will not leave you orphans” and gave them and us through them, the Eucharist and Holy Priesthood to be with us until He comes again in Glory.  It is also the Love which inspired Him to wash the feet of His disciples and to give them the command, “If, then, I, being your Lord and Master, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet.”  This is called the Mandatum and it is our charge as well – that selfless Love we must share with one another.  It is, in the final analysis, why He took upon Himself all of our sins, suffered, and died on the cross to win for us eternal salvation with His Father in Heaven.  The only question for us is: How will we return that Love?
