Milites Christi

Confirmation Saturday 2024
Confirmation marks a new outpouring of the graces of the Holy Ghost.  At Baptism we are able to teach the Faith in our own name, but with Confirmation we are given a new strength and the ability to teach and defend the Faith in the name of the whole Church.  In days of persecution, it was the Confirmed who refused to flee and remained to defend the Faith and suffer for Christ.  Those who are Confirmed are made instruments for the spread of Our Lord’s kingdom on Earth.

Necessity of Priestly Vocations

Good Shepherd Sunday 2024
If we have charity, we desire the salvation of all our neighbors and pray for both our loved ones and our enemies.  The words, “I know mine and mine know me,” refer especially to the clergy.  How could we be saved without the priest – without his prayers and instructions.  Those who do not answer the call to follow their vocation are in grave danger.  We must follow our calling even if we lack the sensible feeling of enthusiasm towards that state of life.  The Blessed Mother loves priests as she loves her own Son.

Avoiding Occasions of Sin

Low Sunday 2024
Today is called Low Sunday because it is small in comparison to the great feast of Easter.  St. Thomas’ doubt has made it easier for us to believe, because the proofs of the Resurrection that Christ offered help strengthen our faith.  Now that we have put to death the old man, we must shut the doors of our soul to the world.  After we have been given new life, like Lazarus we are bound hand and foot if we remain attached to the world.  Even the great can fall if they do not avoid occasions of sin and resist the devil “steadfast in the faith.”

Our Joyous Victory

Easter Sunday Morning 2024
To prove His divinity, Our Lord truly rose from the dead – physically, materially, corporeally.  The signs of His divinity are so abundant that it would be foolish to deny its truth, but we must still be given the gift of Faith to affirm it.  Christ rose by His own power just as much as He was raised from the dead by His Father.  The risen Savior filled the terrified Apostles with peace.  Christ tells us that although we are sorrowful now, one day we will be filled with joy and vindicated in the eyes of the world.  Our Faith is the victory which overcomes the world.

Our Promised Land

Easter Vigil 2024
Our time of training as catechumens and penitents is almost over.  We begin this ceremony in the darkness of the tomb where the light of Christ will be restored.  Without the Resurrection, our faith is in vain.  This light is carried by the clergy and the people and is meant to be spread throughout the whole world.  The deacon represents St. Mary Magdalene while he proclaims the joy of the Resurrection.  By God’s grace we may be restored to our baptismal innocence and be worthy to enter the true Promised Land of Heaven.

The Heroic Life Of Mothers

5th Sunday after Easter 2023
This Mass prepares us for the feast of the Ascension.  We are joyful because “God has liberated His people.”  There are many who hear the word, but it does not move them to action.  The faith of those people is dead, and they will not enter Heaven.  We look to the Blessed Mother as the model of all mothers.  We see her share her Divine Son with the world.  She offers up her Son on the cross for the love of God and all mankind who are also her children. It is a heroic life to be a good mother.

His Necessary Departure

4th Sunday after Easter 2023
This is a season of consolations, but we know the consolations must soon pass.  We see the heinousness of the sin committed in condemning Christ to death even more clearly when we witness the great gifts given to the Apostles on Pentecost.  The Gospel for today proves the Catholic belief in the Filioque – that the Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father and the Son.  In our own spiritual life, it is sometimes necessary for Christ to hide Himself from us so that we may live more perfectly by Faith with the help of the Holy Spirit.

True And False Obedience

3rd Sunday after Easter 2023
Only those who are sorry receive that forgiveness of Christ.  Our Lord in this Gospel says that in a little while He will die and then in a little while His Apostles will see Him alive again in glory.  It is not in the Resurrection but in His glorious Second Coming when we shall experience joy unimaginable.  We are told that those who pray will be saved and through mystic prayer we may begin to experience Heaven on Earth.  We should read the lives of the Saints and imitate them according to supernatural prudence.

Complete Trust In The Shepherd

2nd Sunday after Easter 2023
There is only one fold and one shepherd. We have complete trust in Christ as our Good Shepherd, and it is the call of all priests and bishops to watch over the flock and to bring those who are lost back to the true fold. As we have heard before and we continue to reiterate, the price of our salvation is the Blood of the Lamb – the Blood of Christ, shed for our salvation. The beautiful Paschal Candle stands as a consoling reminder of Christ’s presence with us for the forty days after His Resurrection.

One Redeemer, One Priesthood

Low Sunday 2023
50th Priestly Anniversary of Fr. Ward
We are here first to love and honor God, because this day is dedicated to thanking Him.  We thank God for sending us a holy priest, for the Church, and for her truth.  What better day to speak about the priesthood than the day on which we were given the sacrament of Penance.  The words of Our Lord, “you shall be holy because I am holy,” were said to everyone, but first of all to His priests.  It was Christ who said, “To you it is given to know the mysteries of God.”  Priests are privileged to share in the royal lineage as Christ Himself.
