Our Sufficiency Is From God

12th Sunday after Pentecost 2018
This week is the feast of the Assumption of Our Lady, body and soul, into heaven.  The feasts of the school teacher, St. Cassian, and the foundress of the Poor Clares.  The Epistle for the 12th Sunday after Pentecost teaches about sufficient grace and its necessity in our lives – without it we cannot be saved.  The Gospel is the beautiful story of the Good Samaritan which reveals the Sacred Heart in all its mercy for any unfortunates.  It has the deeper meaning concerning the seeking out of every sinner by Our Lord who heals him and entrusts him to His Church for care and comfort.

The Necessary Devotion

Sacred Heart 2018
Christ requested this feast of His Sacred Heart to assure us in the latter days of His most merciful love.  This is not an optional devotion because it is the core of the Redemption.  Our Lord has made twelve promises to those who practice it which culminate in the pledge of future glory in heaven.  Now when the world has grown old and cold in its evil the Sacred Heart appears as the cause of hope for all.  For those who wish to draw close to His Heart, the masters of the spiritual life counsel self-denial, constant recollection and prayer.

Remember The Bells Of Joy

Holy Thursday 2018
The bells of thanksgiving and joy are rung during the Gloria of this Mass which celebrates the birthday of the priesthood, the Mass, the Holy Eucharist and the Sacred Liturgy.  These gifts of love from the Sacred Heart of Jesus must be appreciated as the heavenly treasure and the pearl of great price.  We renew our oath of allegiance to promote, to defend and never to compromise what Our Lord gave us this night before He died.

Render To God What Is God’s

22nd Sunday After Pentecost 2017

As the liturgical year draws to its conclusion, the Church reminds us that we must make a return to God for all He has done for us.  The Gospel records the command to render to God the things that belong to God.  Chief among these is the charity which God has shown us.  We must love God in Christ Jesus and our neighbor so that we dwell together in unity. We can be called out of this life anytime so we should re-dedicate ourselves to be another Christ in this world and so merit heaven.

None Is Justified In God’s Sight

All Souls Day Evening 2017

“It is a holy and wholesome thought to pray for the dead.”  This citation from the Old Testament shows how much the Jews cared for their deceased family and friends.  The need for prayer after death is due to the effects that sin leaves its in us and all must be purged before we can enter heaven.  Even the saints, as holy as they were, admitted their daily failings that needed to be purified.  We merit and satisfy now for our sins but the souls in Purgatory can only undergo suffering to make satisfaction but without merit.  God loves the Holy Souls and is more close to them than to those still on the earth.

The Doctrine On Purgatory

All Souls Day 2017

Despite the tone of mourning and sorrow the Church has infused this Mass on All Souls Day with hope.  The reason for this is explained by the teachings of our Faith about Purgatory where those who have died as imperfect friends of God are purified of the obstacles that impede their entrance into heaven.  This devotion is ancient in the Church and in history and the liturgical expression of it is examined.  Finally, the saints are cited for their insights.

Necrology

All Souls Day 2017

Pray for the faithful departed, especially those from this chapel.  We must appreciate how perfectly pure and reverent one needs to be in order to enter Gods presence.  Holy Souls are in peace and depend on the living to be purified.  Have mercy on them because the hand of the Lord has touched them.  Have Masses offered for them.  Our known vices must be eliminated now with merit or else they will be the cause of our punishment without merit.  A word to the wise is sufficient.

Avoid The Devil’s Contagion

17th Sunday after Pentecost 2017

The Church begins to prepare us for the end of the liturgical year with this Mass which reminds us of judgment.  The Gospel gives the great commandments of the Law: love of God and neighbor, and the importance of faith in God Incarnate.  St. Paul reminds us to express our charity by promoting peace.  The enemy to all this is the devil which the Collect prays that we avoid his evil influences.

Make Us Love What You Command

13th Sunday after Pentecost 2017

The Collect Prayer for the Thirteenth Sunday after Pentecost sums up our desire for an increase of the theological virtues and a desire to love God as He wants.  For this, we should pray the Acts of Faith, Hope and Charity daily because these virtues are essential for gaining heaven and we can never have enough of them.  The Gospel reminds us that we must be grateful to God for His gifts as the leperous Samaritan was after Christ healed him.

Gospel Of Consolation

12th Sunday after Pentecost 2017
Conference After Mass
The parable of the Good Samaritan revolutionized the ancient world’s outlook on how to treat the less fortunate.  Its impact is still felt today because even our secular society has “Samaritan” laws and institutions recalling this lesson from Our Lord.  There is a deeper meaning to this story which explains how Christ is the Good Samaritan toward each of us who have fallen because of our sins.  A yet more elevated understanding of this truth creates the desire in a Christian to face the evils in this world and transform them into good.  The practice of a deep interior life is necessary to accomplish this sanctification of self and of the world around us.
