Enmity Between You And The Woman

Immaculate Conception 2016

Our Lady was conceived without Original Sin, which every human being contracts because of Adam’s sin.  Our own country is dedicated to Her under this title of the Immaculate Conception.  Our Lady at Lourdes identified herself to St. Bernadette Soubirous by saying: “I am the Immaculate Conception.”  In the epistle from today’s Mass taken from the book of Proverbs we see the excellence of Wisdom applied to Our Lady in the words: “The Lord possessed me in the beginning of His ways, before He made anything, from the beginning, I was set up from eternity.”  And, it is She who will crush the Head of the Serpent and those who find Her “shall find life, and shall have salvation from the Lord.”   So, we have a special opportunity to flee to Our Mother as the patroness of our Country and the One that will crush the Head of the Serpent.

Prayer And Its Expressions

Prayer is an outgrowth of the natural conversation with self which is elevated to a dialogue with God.  We then follow the progression from this through the different types of prayer like the theological, the four purposes of prayer, and prayer to the Blessed Trinity and the friends of God.

Imitate And Obtain What Is Promised

Our Lady of the Holy Rosary 2016

After hearing the story of the Blessed Mother weaving a crown of roses with the Hail Marys said by a monk reciting the Rosary, we learn about the chalice dedicated to the Holy Rosary and how it was given to us.  The Rosary helped Father with his vocation and is a hallmark of all vocations.  St. Dominic used it to convert heretics and it is the remedy for all times.  We rest in Our Lady’s promise that one day she will save the world through the Rosary.  Pray it daily as requested at Fatima.

Way Of The Mother

Feast Of The Seven Sorrows Of The Blessed Virgin Mary 2016

Fr. Superior mentions in today’s Epistle how Judith saves the Jewish people from the terrible Holifernes. She is a type of Our Holy Mother saving us from the terrible clutches of Satan.  He then recalls briefly the Seven Sorrows of the Blessed Virgin.   Fr. Superior makes  an analogy in describing how we must embrace our own sorrows in life as a kind of “Tuition for Life.”  He describes Our Holy Mother in her role as Co-redemptrix of the Human Race and how Our Lord, while on the Cross, gave Her to us to be our solace and our hope as we pay our “Tuition for Life.”   Most especially are we to remember that with the Cross we have already won as long as we accept and embrace it in our lives.

Infinite Power, Infinite Gentleness

Feast Of The Annunciation

This sermon focuses on Mary’s acceptance of God’s Will that She be the Mother of God and the great degree of Humility that She demonstrated in accepting the words of the Angel Gabriel and, most importantly, what this means for us and all humanity.  Nothing would have happened had She not consented to the awesome request presented to Her to not only be the Mother of God but our Mother as well.  Can we imagine how She felt on that day?  She was, of course, predestined for this role but Her acceptance of it was key to its fulfillment.  Can we be as accepting of the Will of God in our lives as She was in Hers?

The Importance Of The Rosary

Sermon From
20th Sunday After Pentecost 2015
This year marks the 500th anniversary of the birth of St. Teresa of Avila and her feast is this week.  Her quotes show her to be a traditionalist and a teacher of prayer.  Today is also the feast of the Divine Maternity of the Blessed Virgin Mary.  Last week was the feast honoring the Rosary and we are reminded of the importance of this powerful sacramental, what it is and how we should pray it efficaciously.  At Fatima the Blessed Mother revealed to the three children on October 13, 1917 when the Miracle of the Sun took place her identity as the Lady of the Rosary.  Besides the Rosary she taught them how to offer up their daily little sacrifices in reparation for the sins of the world and for their own sanctification.

May Darkness Be Dispelled

Feast of the Purification 2015
This is one of the earliest feasts in honor of the Blessed Virgin.  In the Mosaic Law women underwent a juridical purification after birth.  Although it was not necessary for the Blessed Mother to receive any purification, out of humility and submission to the law, she participated in this ceremony.  This is the Mass of candles, and from the earliest days of the Church the candle has been used as a sacramental representing Christ Himself.  Today we pray that the light of Christ will dispel the darkness of vice in our hearts and strengthen us against the temptations of the devil.
