Her Infallible Trust

Sermon From
The Annunciation 2014
What a close friend of God St. Gabriel must be for him to be chosen over all the other angels to ask God’s intended spouse, Our Lady, if she would be mother to the Divine Son.  If we want to know the will of God we should ask the angels, especially St. Gabriel.  When we hear the angel say, “Nothing shall be impossible with God,” it should fill us with hope and courage.  We must never give up!  Even Judas could have been saved if he had not despaired.  The Blessed Mother gives us the perfect example of infallible trust in God.

Her Extraordinary Magnanimity

Feast of the Annunciation 2013

Among the peoples living at the time of Our Lord’s coming, there was an anxious anticipation of great change for the world.  We are once again living in a time when the world anticipates a coming change.

This day commemorates the day on which the Virgin Mary became the Mother of God.  It was in the midst of prayer when the angel appeared to her.  When she is referred to as “full of grace” it implies that she was pleasing to God in the highest degree.  The angel did not command Our Lady but requested her consent to this greatest of all vocations.  It was only because of her esteem for the angelic virtue of purity that she asked how this could happen.  The Virgin Mary was truly heroic by choosing to sacrifice her life of secluded contemplation for a life fraught with sufferings.  She realized the dignity and responsibility of the path laid out for her, yet she had no hesitation because of her absolute trust in divine assistance.

Make Me Trust as She Does

Feast of the Annunciation 2012

In this Epistle, Isaias the Prophet warns the king of Israel about the danger of syncretism.  It is far more likely that in relationships with bad friends, it is not the good that lift up the bad but the bad who drag down the good.  At this moment, Isaias made a prophecy, not only for the Hebrews, but for all people – that of the Virgin Birth.  The truth of this dogma far surpasses the ability of words to express it.  Upon the consent of the Blessed Mother, God the Son took a human body and soul and began to take nourishment from her.  Because Christ is both God and man, He is Head and Master of all creation.  We are able to glorify God more perfectly than brute animals with the use of our intellect and will.  All the gifts given to the Blessed Mother were to prepare her for this moment.  All true Christians love and esteem the Virgin Mary, and strive to imitate her humility, confidence, and trust.
