St. Paul corrected the Corinthians who doubted the General Resurrection.  Not only was the Resurrection of Our Lord a type of our own, but without this dogma, our “faith is vain.”  It was St. Paul, the Apostle to the Gentiles, who brought the Faith to the non-Jewish world.  Yet, despite all he did for the Church, he knew himself to be the least of the Apostles.  With the help of a daily examination of conscience and true self-knowledge, we too will appreciate that all the good we possess and all we accomplish in this life is due to God’s grace.  Through our examination of conscience, God allows us to see ourselves as we really are, which prepares our path to perfection.  In the words of St. Augustine, “This is the very perfection of a man, to find out his own imperfections.”

His Manifestation To All

2nd Sunday after Epiphany 2024
The Magi had open minds and were seeking the truth.  They followed the star and received Christ into their hearts.  Unlike God’s revelation to the Magi or St. John the Baptist, the wedding feast was a manifestation of Christ’s divinity to everyone.  In the divine plan, God did not change His mind but made the miracle at Cana dependent on the Blessed Mother’s request.  The Virgin Mary was sensitive to the interests of the host of the feast, and her interest is carried over to each one of us.  The water turning into wine was a prefiguring of Transubstantiation.

First Friday Conference – The Fourteen Holy Helpers have been invoked since the Middle Ages to help with specific needs of the faithful.  St. Augustine is one of the greatest moral and doctrinal theologians in history.  His most famous works are popular even among non-Catholics.  Conversion of life and the mortification of the senses can be extremely difficult.  Temptations can surprise us at any moment and defense against these temptations often takes heroism. It is worth fighting for the things that really matter.  Sensitivity is necessary when practicing charity towards our neighbor.

Raised From The Dead

15th Sunday after Pentecost 2021
All profession days are beautiful moments for our religious communities and for the people.  Today is also unique and reminiscent of Jesus’ words about St. Paul at his conversion, “I will teach him to suffer for My Name”.   This joyful day is also a pure and perfect sacrifice in union with Our Lord on the Cross.  The means of this oblation are the evangelical vows of poverty, chastity and obedience that were professed this morning before Mass.  These are counsels from the Gospel which are for those called to embrace them and who are generous in doing so.  All the baptized must live the spirit of the vows but religious practice them.  Now begins the work of living the interior life deeply and thereby becoming a fruitful spouse of Christ.  There is much to learn about the theological virtues and the vows but the Sacred Heart and the Blessed Mother will be your guides.  Be stout-hearted because the Lord is your light and salvation  and He will never forget you.

8th Sunday After Pentecost 2014
This week has the beautiful feasts of St. Dominic, Our Lady of the Snows, the Transfiguration and St. John Vianney.  Man by nature has the need to be religious and bind himself to that which is greater, namely God the Creator.  For Catholics this is enhanced as we are bound to God our Father.  For these reasons, and because of God’s own commandment, we must worship Him publicly and should not permit anything to prevent us from attending Mass on Sundays and Holydays of obligation.  Real men sacrifice all for family, and are willing to do the same for Almighty God.  St. Augustine said it famously, “Lord, you have made us for Yourself and our hearts are restless until they rest in Thee.”

The Solidarity of the Human Race

We cannot gain an increase of Sanctifying Grace for other souls, however through congruent merit, we have the ability to win an increase of divine assistance for our neighbor. The closer we are to God the more He will bless those around us. This is referred to as the solidarity of the human race. It is also why we pray for the intercession of the saints. It is as if the close friends of Our Lord have a claim on His goodness.

The most important of the moral virtues is prudence, because it governs all the other moral virtues. It is prudence which prevents both excess and defect in the practice of the other virtues
