3rd Sunday in Lent 2015 This is the Mass of sight, and today we ask God to let us see the truth and follow it. Today we are reminded to know our enemy and not underestimate him. The miracle of this Gospel is discredited by modern “theologians,” who are the equivalent of the pharisees in our day. Every Mass during this season is teaching us. We are like the catechumens during this season and should take advantage of the lessons in the Mass texts, which warn us about the devil and encourage us to be forearmed against his assaults. #20150308M
First Friday Conference – March 2015 We know the story of Saints Perpetua and Felicity from their firsthand account. During one of the general persecutions of the Church, these two heroic, young women gave their lives for Christ.
It is important to understand the meaning of a “type” and how God uses types or prophecies to foreshadow things to come. We see one of the most vivid types of Christ in the patriarch Joseph. Just as Joseph was the favorite son of his father and the envy of his brothers led to their murderous desires, so too was Our Lord, the only Son of God, put to death out of envy. Joseph became the savior of his family by offering them life-giving bread during famine, as Christ redeemed the world and gives to us the Holy Eucharist.
Catholics should not be troubled by temptations, or confuse them with sins, but view them as opportunities for merit. Even those trials from the devil may be turned to acts of love for God.
Ash Wednesday 2015 Not one word is said about punishment or damnation in the readings for this Mass, and that should give a hint to Catholics about the true spirit of this season. There is no such thing as a private sin. Not only are all our sins known to the heavenly court, but the whole universe is affected by them. In the early years of the Church, public penitents were driven out of the churches, just as Adam was driven from Paradise after his sin. This is a time of holiness, mercy, hope, and pardon, not condemnation and gloom. We must begin Lent as we should examine our conscience, by looking at Our Lord and comparing ourselves with Him. During Lent Christ pleads with us not to leave Him alone, so we may be united with Him forever. #20150218
Sexagesima Sunday 2015 Many of the Epistles of St. Paul were dictated by him and written by his fellow disciples. He was being attacked by false Christians, so in this Epistle he attempts to bring back the faithful who were led astray. St. Paul’s great lesson is to distrust ourselves. This season is the realization of original sin, but this week we learn about actual sins. We know that we suffer in this life because of sin. In the Gospel for this Mass Our Lord demonstrates that there is meaning behind all the words of Scripture. We must respond completely in giving ourselves to God. #20150208M
Septuagesima Sunday 2015 The Epistle tells us that if we are to put our efforts into anything it should be something that really matters. Not for the perishable rewards given in sports but for the eternal reward of Heaven. These three Sundays are for an examination of conscience. We should be asking during these days what we have done in our life that has truly mattered. It is not easy to be a Catholic, because it means we will have enemies in this life. The opinions of men do not affect our eternity. It does not matter how we begin our life, but how we end it. We must live with distrust of self and knowledge of our dependence on God. #20150201
Sermon From The Feast Of The Seven Sorrows 2014 The Virgin Mary’s life had many sorrows, but we limit them to the seven major sorrows of her life. We should recall each of these seven sorrows today, remembering especially the greatest of them all – when the Blessed Mother stood at the foot of the cross. The image of the Sorrowful Mother in our chapel holds a very special significance. This image has become a source of great grace and consolation to many who have seen it. People know instinctively where to go when they are in trouble – they go to their loving Mother. #20140915
Sermon From The Easter Vigil 2014 There are many reasons for the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, but one of the most important was that He might release to us all the benefits He won on the Cross. This is why, even in His glorified Body, He keeps the wounds of His Passion. Heaven is available to all and we were created to enjoy it. As St. Augustine says, “You made us for Yourself.” Although the Vigil begins in complete darkness, we are soon shown the Light of Christ which guides us on our way. By His grace our lives are touched, and we are brought to our final reward. #20140419
Sermon From Good Friday 2014 We ask the Blessed Mother to help us through this liturgy, because it was she who stood at the foot of the cross. Because of the elements of joy and paschal anticipation in the Mass, it is not fitting for this day in which all joy has been suppressed. The Church is in mourning for her God, Who has died for her this day. The Church is calling upon sinner to repent, and to partake of the fruit of the new tree – Christ Himself on the tree of the cross. #20140418M
Sermon On Holy Thursday 2014 This day we celebrate the institution of the Mass, the Holy Eucharist, and the Priesthood – the only vocation created directly by God. The saints tell us that it would be easier for us to exist without the Sun than without the Mass. Our presence at the Mass shows God’s love for us, because He gives us the grace to come, and it allows us to show our love, fidelity, and loyalty to Him. God has promised a great reward to those who stand with Him, and we know that it is only through the Mass that we will receive that reward. Let us make reparation and proclaim our loyalty through the Sacrifice of the Altar. #20140417
Sermon From Palm Sunday 2014 In the liturgy of Palm Sunday we are shown by Holy Mother Church the summary of the entire Holy Week. Christ allowed Himself to be given regal praise this day, and we continue that celebration in the blessing and distribution of palms, which are a sign of victory. The ancient practice of the Church in Jerusalem is repeated now in the triumphant procession. Heaven is our goal, and we are called to follow Our Lord in all humility, so that we may have a part in that final procession when the souls of the just join their heavenly King. #20140413K
