During this sacred time before Lent we should examine our conscience so we know the predominant fault we will battle through penance once Ash Wednesday arrives. St. Paul is our spiritual director for this as we think about original and actual sin. The young especially have an opportunity to respond to grace and be instruments of sanctity in the world today.

Exaltation of the Holy Cross 2017
Relics of the true Cross are in our shrine and give us a link to the origins of this feast. The Cross had its antecedents in the Old Testament but its exaltation began with Constantine’s victory under its banner. His mother, St. Helen, discovered the true Cross and later the Emperor Herclius saved it from the Persians. The mystery of the Cross, if known and lived, will be our path to a glorious triumph in heaven and peace and consolation during the trials and sufferings of this life.

Easter Vigil 2017
The Easter Vigil begins with the Feast of Light in dispelling the darkness of sin. The next part of the ceremony is about Baptism and renewal of vows and finally we have the Mass. The central doctrine of Easter is the Resurrection of Our Lord and His overcoming of evil and death. We renew our Faith and rejoice in Christ’s glorious Resurrection.

Good Friday 2017
Holy Mother the Church on Good Friday gathers around the Cross to witness the renewal of Christ’s sacrifice during the solemn liturgical action. This ceremony has the Passion according to St. John, the solemn collects, the adoration of the Cross and culminates with Holy Communion. Our Mother of Sorrows stands before us as the model so we might become like to Him in death, and in the hope that somehow we may attain to the resurrection from the dead.

Holy Thursday 2017
Holy Thursday can be summed up in one word: Love. This Divine-Human love in the Sacred Heart gave us the Holy Eucharist, the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass and the Holy Priesthood today.  True Catholics love all these sacred things in return and follow Our Lord’s command to love one another. Finally, we appreciate the cost of this love to Our Savior and what we do in reparation.
Palm Sunday 2017
Palm Sunday encompasses all of the Mysteries of Holy Week in one singular devotion. Â It begins with an exclamation of Joy as Christ enters Jerusalem as Savior and King, turns to profound sorrow as He undergoes His Passion and Death, and the culminates in Joy again at His Resurrection. Â Since it is in the nature of Man to worship, recalling these events allows us to worship in a deep and meaningful way as our God and His Church intends.

Friday in Passion Week 2017 – 1st Friday
The prophecy of Caiphas about the necessity of Christ’s death for the people is an example of how God’s word can even come from the mouth of His enemy. However, the Friday in Passion Week is especially dedicated to our Mother of Sorrows. Our Lady stood by the Cross of her Son and suffered with Him. The Blessed Mother is the example for true friends of Our Savior and she will make them be like her and her Son.

We have reached the middle of Lent and we rejoice at this point and continue to persevere. We receive graces as the chosen ones and we must not postpone our conversion. As the people in today’s Gospel, we will follow Our Lord for the beautiful teachings He gives us and for the miracle of the loaves and fishes.

Third Sunday in Lent 2017
Lent provides us with additional aids in growing in sanctity and it is wise to take advantage of these as if this is our last opportunity to do so. Every Mass in Lent has its own texts which should be read and prayed over, if not able to attend Mass daily. So many lessons are available for those who are generous.
