He Must Rule

Christ the King 2017

The feast of Christ The King sums up our faith in the Incarnate God and makes us pray “Thy Kingdom Come.”  As good subjects we should know the catechism, pray and give ourselves in return for the divine self sacrifice of Our Lord.  We have the examples of the saints who have done so and were the means of the miraculous in this world.  Such are needed today when Christianity faces its bleakest future.

Salvation Of The People

19th Sunday after Pentecost

The Introit tells us that God is the salvation of His people and anyone can call upon Our Lord and be converted.  The Epistle teaches us about the need to control anger and not let it be excessive.  It is also part of the teaching that one must be angry when it is justified in the case of an evil situation.  Christ directed the parable in this Gospel to all of us.  As being part of the Mystical Body of Jesus we are subject to persecution in a similar way to our Head who offered Himself on the cross for our sins.

The Sanctuary

The story of the paralytic shows Christ’s power to forgive sins and encourages all sinners to seek mercy, even through ones friends.  Our chapel tour continues with the explanation of the Beatitudes as the hallmarks of holiness.  An in depth study of the sanctuary tells of its different features and the meaning of these fulfillments of the Old Testament’s Holy of Holies.

Avoid The Devil’s Contagion

17th Sunday after Pentecost 2017

The Church begins to prepare us for the end of the liturgical year with this Mass which reminds us of judgment.  The Gospel gives the great commandments of the Law: love of God and neighbor, and the importance of faith in God Incarnate.  St. Paul reminds us to express our charity by promoting peace.  The enemy to all this is the devil which the Collect prays that we avoid his evil influences.

Humble Yourself To Be Exalted

16th Sunday after Pentecost 2017

The Holy Spirit speaks to us through the Epistle and Gospel of every Mass so we should pay close attention.  He also aids us in our spiritual life which must be grounded in charity.  We should learn to trust the Advocate and not ourselves because we are often attached to self.  Do not despise our neighbors and thereby fall into false humility.

Make Us Love What You Command

13th Sunday after Pentecost 2017

The Collect Prayer for the Thirteenth Sunday after Pentecost sums up our desire for an increase of the theological virtues and a desire to love God as He wants.  For this, we should pray the Acts of Faith, Hope and Charity daily because these virtues are essential for gaining heaven and we can never have enough of them.  The Gospel reminds us that we must be grateful to God for His gifts as the leperous Samaritan was after Christ healed him.

Sunday Of Humility

10th Sunday after Pentecost

In today’s Gospel about the Pharisee and the Publican Our Lord taught a valuable lesson to those who trusted in themselves and despised others.  The teaching concerned having a humble estimation of ourselves which would thereby prepare us for the glories of heaven because those who humble themselves shall be exalted.

Seek Peace And Pursue It

5th Sunday after Pentecost 2017

The season after Pentecost is the time for sanctity.  We should grow in love of God and of neighbor (which is the measure of love of God).  Today’s Mass warns against the obstacle that anger presents in accomplishing this goal. Although a natural passion, anger easily becomes inordinate and sinful because of the effects of original sin.  Combating the first motions of anger will turn us from this vice and then we should turn to prayer instead and gain the peace that comes from a holy life.

St. Joseph Is Essential To Redemption

Feast Of St. Joseph 2017

St. Joseph was a holy man who fulfilled the law with devotion and heart-felt piety.  He was chosen to be the spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary and to be the foster-father of the Son of God.  In that capacity he was the image of God the Father.  As the redemption depended on Our Lady’s “Fiat” at the Annunciaton so it was protected by her marriage to St. Joseph and his protection of her and the Holy Infant.
