Our God-given Peace

We believe in the liturgical law, and that the law of belief follows that of prayer. This is why the deformation of the liturgy is so diabolically dangerous. Throughout the Mass and especially as we approach the moment of Communion, we pray for peace – the tranquility of order. This peace that we enjoy comes from the Mass. Like Esther, we pray that God will give us the words to please Him. While we live in this Valley of Tears, we can maintain our peace and joy if we remain always attached to the Holy Mass. Just as St. Alfred the Great triumphed in the name of Christ the King, if we remain true to the Faith and unified in the liturgy, we too will conquer our foes.

^{Conference On}^{First Friday October 2013}St. Francis is greatly misunderstood in our day but was, in fact, a true son of the Church. By his words and example, he made innumerable converts. The Gospel for the Mass of his feast day emphasizes his charity. He was an utterly selfless man. The Little Flower, St. Thérèse, despite all the differences between her life and St. Francis’, shared many similarities to him in spirit. She promised to spend her Heaven doing good on Earth. Poverty of spirit makes one recognize his nothingness. We must remember that sometimes God sends us suffering to open our eyes to the truth.

Our Lady’s Sovereignty

^{Sermon From}^{14th Sunday after Pentecost 2013}The time between the Assumption and the feast of the Seven Sorrows is considered Our Lady’s thirty days. The Mass texts of these feasts and that of the Immaculate Heart show her quality as Co-Redemptrix. This adds fervor to the devotion we already have to our heavenly Queen and Mother. The depictions of her most pure Heart, as in the Miraculous Medal, show her dependence on the Redemptive Incarnation even more than ours. We are given confidence to draw close to her as our essential intercessor with her Divine Son. Theologically we are speaking of her as the secondary instrumental cause of our salvation. From here we are moved to join her in her sorrows and we practice mortification in union with Our Lord’s sacrifice on the cross.

Much Is Forgiven Those Who Love

^{Sermon From The}^{9th Sunday After Pentecost 2013 – 10am Mass}Tomorrow is the feast of the great penitent, St. Mary Magdalen. Early in life she fell into sin which made her like Satan. However, Our Lord’s love frees us from sin. Some, like the Pharisees, rejected His love. Even mortal sins can be forgiven by a perfect act of contrition. The Blessed Mother will help us as St. Mary Magdalen discovered. Christ praised our saint for choosing the better way in contemplation and giving all as shown by her anointing Him with oil. After the Epistle and Gospel follows an instruction on the priesthood and religious life which stresses the importance of zeal for the commandments as expressed through the vows so thereby we lay up treasures in heaven.

Many clergy and laity have easily fallen away because they did not appreciate this and other truths of God. We fall by degrees and not mortally immediately. We must maintain our fervor and love in this life because it is more important on earth than knowing much. We can only love that for which we have suffered. The history of this feast shows its importance in modern times to overcome the particular dangers that attack Christ and His Mystical Body. The Blood of the Savior redeemed us and is the everlasting token of how much He loves us. We are granted to receive this life giving refreshment whenever we receive Holy Communion.

Why God Permits Suffering

Today is also Father’s Day. This vocation is attacked in our society and only adds to the suffering and sacrifices that fathers must endure for the sake of their families but God always hears their prayers and heaven awaits them. The Black Forest fires that have been destroying many homes in our area have even threatened us but God has preserved us. We have many spiritual helps to protect us and all are welcome here in case of danger. Things like this make people wonder how evils exist in a world created by our heavenly Father Who saw that all was good. Non-Catholics are at a loss to answer such questions and some conclude that God cannot exist. We know that there are many reasons why we suffer and imitating Our Lord on the cross and winning eternal glory is certainly one of them.

My Happiest Day

^{Sermon From}^{2nd Sunday After Pentecost 2013}Today our children receive their First Holy Communion. Our Lord left us this sacrament so we would not be orphans when He ascended into heaven. The Holy Eucharist and the special graces given by Christ will help us to reach heaven. The state of grace in us means that the Holy Trinity lives inside us. With such strength we are able to resist the enemies of God. Ask Our Lord to make us good and bring us all to live with Him forever. This is the happiest day of our lives and we should receive Holy Communion often, even daily.

Joy Amidst Suffering

^{Conference On Purgatory}^{1st Friday November 2012}The Holy Souls in Purgatory experience eviternity, or what is called discontinuous time, which is that time which measures the change in a soul. God lives in a reality independent of time, and one might say that the souls in Purgatory live in a reality between time and eternity. If one dies without being completely prepared, the presence of God would be too intense for the soul to endure. It must first be purified completely before seeing God, and this is the reason for Purgatory. The joy experienced in Purgatory is like the joy of Heaven amidst suffering.

Supply What I Lack

The historical event is made present again at the Mass. The Resurrection is the central doctrine of the whole Catholic Church. Christ came for the purpose of saving us. When we receive Holy Communion at the Mass today, we can receive any graces we did not obtain this Lent.
