Do Not Be Distracted

Palm Sunday 2018
Palm Sunday is an encapsulation of all of Holy Week as the triumph of the Resurrection is seen with the entry of Our Lord into the Holy City and the sacrifice of the Cross in the Passion.  We must not waste this week nor be distracted.  We can win souls to Christ by imitating the virtues Jesus showed on this day: humility, meekness and obedience.

The Visible Reign of the Holy Ghost

Pentecost Sunday 2017

On Pentecost Sunday the Holy Ghost manifested Himself under the two visible signs of wind and fire.  The wind stirred the pilgrims who were in the city for the Jewish feastday and drove them to the Upper Room where they heard the Apostles speaking in all their languages of the wonderful works of God.  The Apostles were able to do this after the Holy Ghost had appeared to them in parted tongues of fire and rested upon each of them.  This visible theophany marked the beginning of the sanctification of the world which the Holy Ghost will accomplish until the end of time.

Solemn Liturgical Action

Good Friday 2017

Holy Mother the Church on Good Friday gathers around the Cross to witness the renewal of Christ’s sacrifice during the solemn liturgical action.  This ceremony has the Passion according to St. John, the solemn collects, the adoration of the Cross and culminates with Holy Communion.  Our Mother of Sorrows stands before us as the model so we might become like to Him in death, and in the hope that somehow we may attain to the resurrection from the dead.

Love

Holy Thursday 2017

Holy Thursday can be summed up in one word: Love.  This Divine-Human love in the Sacred Heart gave us the Holy Eucharist, the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass and the Holy Priesthood today.  True Catholics love all these sacred things in return and follow Our Lord’s command to love one another.  Finally, we appreciate the cost of this love to Our Savior and what we do in reparation.

Catholic True Worship

Palm Sunday 2017

Palm Sunday encompasses all of the Mysteries of Holy Week in one singular devotion.  It begins with an exclamation of Joy as Christ enters Jerusalem as Savior and King, turns to profound sorrow as He undergoes His Passion and Death, and the culminates in Joy again at His Resurrection.  Since it is in the nature of Man to worship, recalling these events allows us to worship in a deep and meaningful way as our God and His Church intends.

Beneficial Liturgical Reform

1st Friday Conference May 2015 (Part 1)
Most traditional Catholics are aware of some of the changes that were made to the Holy Week liturgies prior to Vatican Council II, but few know that even great traditional liturgists, like Dom Guéranger, desired that changes be made to these liturgies.  The Church on several occasions has removed accretions from the Mass and liturgy, as well as distinguished between “religious” music and “liturgical” music.  Although the new Holy Week liturgy is not without flaws, it should not be compared with the destruction of the Mass through the Novus Ordo.  Similarly, the feast of St. Joseph the Worker was founded to combat communism and its incursions in the Church.  The practice of taking that which is contrary to the Faith and transforming it into something to aid true Catholic devotion has been employed by the Church from the earliest days.

The Only Acceptable Worship

Easter Vigil 2015
We are privileged to be a part of the unbroken history of this liturgy. Catholic worship is more than merely a compilation of rituals. It is a true reliving of the past. Because of our fallen nature, and the sins we commit, we are not placed in friendship with God but in enmity with Him. Merely human worship, therefore, does not suffice in pleasing God. There is only one worship that is acceptable to Him and that is the worship of His Divine Son. Every act of the Divine Son is infinitely holy. In the instant when His death on the cross took place, the destiny of the universe was changed, and the true Promised Land of Heaven was opened to us.

The Royal Road of the Cross

Good Friday 2015
This day we put God to death with our sins.  Christ saw all our sins and suffered for each one of them.  He bore the pains which we all deserve for our innumerable crimes.  In this liturgy we acknowledge our sins in all humility and plead for God’s forgiveness.  We do not have the ability to be sorry for our sins without the loving gift of God’s grace.  The unveiling of the cross reminds us that it is not only the Cross of Christ but our own cross, and we all suffer because we are all called to love.  We have the ability to turn all of our pain into love of God.

May Christ Triumph in Us

Palm Sunday 2015
This is the most important week of the liturgical year, and we are reminded of the necessity of all the sacraments, but especially of Baptism and the Holy Eucharist.  We begin this week with a look towards the future triumph when we celebrate Our Lord’s entrance into Jerusalem.  We meet Christ now with the palms and in the priest in the procession, and we will meet Him in the future when He leads us into the heavenly Jerusalem.  We must have the disposition that God desires when we received the palms, so we may be victorious over sin. Let us, by our fervor, make up of the sins for our life during this week.

You Will Wake in Heaven

Sermon From The
Easter Vigil 2014
There are many reasons for the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, but one of the most important was that He might release to us all the benefits He won on the Cross.  This is why, even in His glorified Body, He keeps the wounds of His Passion.  Heaven is available to all and we were created to enjoy it.  As St. Augustine says, “You made us for Yourself.”  Although the Vigil begins in complete darkness, we are soon shown the Light of Christ which guides us on our way.  By His grace our lives are touched, and we are brought to our final reward.
