12th Sunday After Pentecost 2012 The Epistle tells us that “the letter kills, and the spirit gives life,” which reiterates the fact that the Old Law has been fulfilled in Christ.
It is of the utmost importance for the youth to pray that God guides them to their true vocation in life. The Church teaches us that the primary purpose of the married state is for the couple to aid the children God sends them in their journey back to God. The pure love shared among the members of the Holy Family should be our model.
The man found half dead in this Gospel account represents us and the wounds we bear on our souls due to sin. The Samaritan who saved the life of his enemy represents Our Lord Who saves the souls of sinners. #20120819S
Sermon From 9th Sunday After Pentecost 2012 Catholics should be familiar with the story of St. Martha and what it teaches us about the importance of prioritizing the spiritual life over the good works of an active life. There are many who so spend themselves in “good works” that they have no time left for Our Lord. We should practice ardent, frequent, and brief prayers throughout the day.
Saints Abdon and Sennen are two saints from Persia. They were known for their great charity to the poor and needy, and in particular for their dedication to burying the dead – that corporal work of mercy which led to their arrest and martyrdom. The early devotion towards these two saints demonstrates the universality of the Church.
After being badly wounded in war, St. Ignatius of Loyola spent much of his convalescence reading the lives of the saints. It was this practice of spiritual reading that led to the conversion of his worldly life, and subsequently the founding of the Society of Jesus, with its countless missionary journeys throughout the world.
St. Alphonsus Ligori followed a vocation despite the great opposition from his father. He is considered one of the chief moral theologians of the Church.
Through divine inspiration Saint Peter Julian Eymard knew that he must dedicate his life, along with the religious orders he founded, to the perpetual adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.
St. Dominic met with great difficulty in converting the Albigensians to the Faith, until he, at the request of Our Lady, begin to use the Holy Rosary in combination with his preaching. With the help of this powerful prayer, he experienced astounding success in his mission. #20120729
Sermon On The 3rd Sunday after Pentecost 2012 ✟Father Violette In our day, when fatherhood is so attacked, all those who belong to this vocation must redouble their efforts to live up to their calling. A true father is unselfish, prioritizing his obligations before all else. It is a vocation which requires selfless solicitude at all times, but we are promised superabundant help from God to progress continually in this state of life.
Aware of our great need, the liturgy of the Church is constantly imploring God’s help for us. We must rely on God’s infinite mercy, while never forgetting is infinite justice. We are asked to remain confident and trustful, in an age of distrust, and we are assured that Our Lord will always provide the help we need. #20120617V
It has been said that the heart of St. Paul was the Heart of Christ, because he learned to be Christlike through his sufferings. He understood Our Lord not merely theoretically but experientially. That is why his words are used for this Mass.
The Gospel for this Mass was chosen because it recalls the moment that the Sacred Heart was opened to pour out divine life to us all. In the Eucharistic miracle of Lanciano, it was His Sacred Heart that Our Lord chose to show to the world. We live in the days of a cold and loveless society which is more in need of this devotion than ever. If we familiarize ourselves with the details of St. Margaret Mary’s life, we will come to appreciate why Christ chose her to propagate this devotion. Our Lord told her that the burning love of His Sacred Heart could no longer be contained, and that this devotion will be His last gift to mankind in this latter age of the world. #20120615
The death of Our Lord was constituted by the shedding of His Precious Blood, but it was the intentionality of the Savior which made that act meritorious. It was His conscious and deliberate consent to the surrender of His life that redeemed us. The feast of the Sacred Heart is the assurance of Christ’s love for us.
The reason why the first communicants dress of for their important day is to reflect the preparation of their souls to receive Our Lord. Christ has promised to all those who receive him in Holy Communion that He will bring them to Heaven and raise up their bodies on the last day. We must renew our trust and gratitude to Our Lord for the great gift of the Blessed Sacrament, and promise to receive Him often throughout our lives. . #20120610
Sunday After The Ascension 2012 Even after the apparent death of a person, the priest should be called, because we do not know when the soul leaves the body and Extreme Unction can be given conditionally even some time after apparent death. It is of the utmost importance to pray with those who are dying. Despite what the Modernists say, the sacrament of Extreme Unction was not an invention of the Medieval Church but is referred to by the earliest writings of the Church Fathers. When we pray for someone and perform acts of charity, we help remove the temporal punishment due to our neighbor’s sins. Let your attitude be one of constant pray. #20120520S
5th Sunday after Easter 2012 As we near the end of this season of great happiness, the Church never ceases to rejoice. St. James gives practical advice in this Epistle for the practice of virtue and avoidance of bad example. The theme of this Mass is one of prayer and sacrifice.
On this day on which we congratulate our mothers, we must remember the primary purpose of marriage and the evil of artificial contraception. The vocations most attacked by the world are those sacramental vocations of marriage and the priesthood. We thank God for the gift of good mothers who work alongside the priests for the salvation of souls. #20120513M
The liturgical year reflects the life of Christ, and we now reach the fruition of His earthly life with the approach of Holy Week. All the images are veiled to remove all consolations so that we may better unite with the desolation Christ endured in those moments. The great mystic, Josefa Menéndez, received visions of Purgatory and Hell. Our Lord spoke of these punishments of the next life very often. Sister Josefa frequently spoke of the inability of the lost souls to love, and that if even the slightest act of love were permitted it would no longer be Hell. She saw that a soul which had gone to great lengths to deprive and mortify itself on Earth would not endure the sufferings of Hell. We should have an undying fear of this eternal punishment, practice the virtue of hope, and respond to the continual graces God offers. #20120325K
Sermon From Quinquagesima Sunday 2012 There is no question on the Catholic Church’s stance regarding contraception and abortion, despite the attacks of the world on these moral teachings in our day.
We have had St. Paul as our retreat master preparing us for Lent, and now that we have spent this time and know the malice of our fallen nature, we are prepared to perform penances during the coming season in all charity. We will need faith and love to carry our cross with Christ through Lent. This is our chance to do battle with the help of Christ. God will never abandon us. #20120219M
3rd Sunday after Epiphany 2012 This Epistle informs us that we should not imagine we are correct in all things. Those who are wise know that they could be mistaken. Also, we are instructed to avoid the desire for vengeance. We must strive to be at peace with all men as much as possible – even our enemies. St. Catherine of Genoa tells us that our love of God is measured by our love of neighbor. By performing acts of charity towards our enemies, we obtain many graces for them. Anyone who says that he loves God and hates his neighbor is a liar. God shows love to us when we are His enemies through sin. He offers His forgiveness to us before we are even sorry. #20120122S
